Witht eh lack of players, it would make sense to change the formation imo.

Maz right back, dalot left back (sigh), Casemiro, Urgate central midfield? Bruno as a 10. Dorgu RW and Garancho LW - Hojlund or Zirk up top.

I don't see what the players are likely to learn in the next few months playing 343 - beyond we aren't able to play it.

I still believe Amorim is a good coach, and that his formation can work - I just don't think we have enough players capable of playing it NOW.

Missing profiles at CB/LCB, CM, RWB, 10, St (formwise more than profile). and thats just first 11.

Wouldn't be getting rid of him anytime soon. He's still learning and hopefully will drop the 5 at the back as it doesn't work. He deserves at least Christmas to see if he can turn it around.

Does a 4231 stop Onana from parrying every shot back into the box? Does it make Hojlund, Zirkzee or Garnacho learn to finish? Too much is being made of the formation imo.

The very scary thing is if the club backs him for a full summer window and get £150-200m of players for his system. Then he doesn’t make the cut and gets let go before Christmas ‘25 (which I personally think is more likely than not at the moment.) you’re left with a squad of misfits even worse than before EtH was sacked. So another new manager comes in with even more rubbish to shift and it will take ages for him to get a squad that he is confident in.

I like Amorim but the things I like about him are things he says, not what he does. What we actually see on the pitch is awful. I’ve supported Man United for 28 years and this is the only time where I’ve wondered what’s the f**cking point. The whole institution needs to be reset.

Absolutely, but the doom wallowers are loving life at the minute.

    5 at the back waaaaaaahhh.

    Sack Amorim waaaaaaahhh.

Ratcliffe as bad as the Glazers waaaaaaahhh.

We just lost 1-0 away from home against a team in a similar position in the table and state of disrepair on the pitch. And the usual suspects lose their mind.

There isn't any point getting rid of Amorim. Prior to Amorim, ETH was the problem. Now Amorim is the problem. After Amorim, there will be another bright up and coming manager ground down until he is the problem.

99% of the issue is player recruitment. It has been awful for 10-15 years. In almost every part of the team, there is a lack of quality or depth or both. It's going to take several years to fix a problem that has been brewing for a decade or more. Finances are constrained. So no quick fixes. INEOS seem to have settled on a strategy of buying mostly potential and hoping to develop it. So we might as well buckle up.

Can't take this seriously, not enough negativity or complaining.

I don;t think he wants to play 5 at the back, but we don't have the players to play anuthing other than that at the moment.

Doegu is the only wingback/winger we have capabale of playing that role.

Quenda is seeming a strong target for the summer and if we get him and a 10 we then possibly have 3 players for that role - Dorgu, Queinda, Amad.

We ar eplayung too deep, too fearful turning Amorim's 343 into a 541 a lot of the time.

There is zero chance he drops the 3atb formation medium term, and seems little chance of it short term either. If his 343 doesn't work once he has ehough players to actually do it he will still stick to it and get sacked or quit.

If the who thing needs a reset why not push that reset with the the hierarchy selected to enact a reset?

He either drops the wing backs or he drops Dalot, he can't have both.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,937 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

He won't do it cause he can't.

I don't think he will change us to a 4atb side - though I think we might stand a better chance if he does.

We only have Dorgu and Dalot to play WB. Mazraoui is rubbish there.

But even if we do sqich to 4atb - we then only have Damlot (lb) and Mazraoui (rb) and then we only have Dorgu and Garnacho for either wing.

No chance to sub or rotate in that guise either.

We had 13 for senior players in the entire squad today. What exactly does any system do with that?

tbf - its not just about today. We are consistently struggling in every match.

The club don't have anywhere near that money to spend.

This crisis demands fan action. Boycott of all united activities that put money into owners pockets, demonstrations and a real push to get the Glazers out or to get them to sell to a group that don't screw the club on loans and interest payments/asset stripping.

Antony scores again. We will get our money back on him yet..

I just don't see the point in doing that. Dalot was rubbish at LB before RA came in, put him back into a back 4 is not going to change that.

Honestly, we don't have the players to play any system right now. We left a LB and 2 attackers go in January and haven't replaced any of them. It's a complete mess.

Nice goal for Antony tonight. Doing well in fairness to him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 14,736 ✭✭✭✭JRant

That's fair and to be expected when 6 of your top earners either can't play or won't play. Rashford, Shaw, Martinez, Mount, Antony, Casemiro, all either on loan, broken (again), or just over the hill.

tbf we replaced Malacia with Dorgu, which is right for the formation we play.

What I don't get is, how can our recruitment be so bad that what we thought were players capable of getting us into europe consistently at the very least are just about players capable of keeping us in the league, it doesn't add up.

It's one thing overpaying for players, it's another thing recruiting players who are supposedly barely Premier League quality when you have the finances and aspirations of winning titles. It doesn't make any sense.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 14,736 ✭✭✭✭JRant

But we have nothing to back him up with though, that's the problem. We brought Dorgu in and let Malacia go for no good reason. We don't have another fit left footer in the team right now.

I don't think all the players we sign are so so bad I think it's more that we are not buying players to build any team. It's happened since sir Alex retired.

How often have we made a signing and said yes that's exactly what the team needs to be finished? It's always like we need a defender and we sign a striker.

De ligt is not a bad player he just doesn't suit a high line. Same with maguire. Cas was a good player first year but he was signed a couple years too late. Some players just can't handle the pressure of a big club too.

There's never any focus on a system and actually team. I'm hoping that's changed nwo and I summer we will see more of a signing that fits a system like Dorgu does.

Redknapp summed it up well after I thought. How many United players would get in the Spurs team… possibly Bruno or Amad… but probably NONE. It doesn't matter a bit what system he plays, the club is going nowhere with the majority of these gimps.

Its been over 10 years and our center of midfield is still not sorted. I think these players can become somewhat decent if we get two decent center midfielders in. McAllister, Caicedo, Rice type of players along with a Modric type. Until then we are screwed. Certainly the worst United team i've ever seen.

Don't think Hojlund ever be good enough and Zirkzee not cut out for premier league. Was good in the Italian league as more tactical.

Not convinced by De Ligt one bit either. Its gonna be a long rebuild and we need to start finding talent like Man City and Liverpool do. Until then we are screwed.

Protests coming back. The best part of the season so far. Let's hope they stick for weeks or months until something changes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,262 ✭✭✭✭billyhead

In fairness Zirkzee wasn't the worse player today.

good on the ball, but terrible off it imo - and was part the reason Bruno was pushing wider (imo) and that caused issues then in midfield.

He does seem to be adjusting the pace of the game up top though.
