I have a Gtmedia V8 connected directly to new universal lnb.

The signal strength goes up to 80% but the quality remains at 30% and the TV shoes no signal.

Tried the small squaker box and the the strength (sound) is strongest in that direction too.

If I change to 13°E and Move the dish there the signal quality goes up to 60%

I'm flummoxed as th what is wrong.

    Dodgy cable possibly?

    LNB skew?

    likely LNB skew.

Try twisting the LNB slightly one way or the other whilst monitoring increase or decrease in Quality level. IGNORE Signal strength and the "squaker" when adjusting LNB skew (as opposed to when moving the dish)

Getting the skew spot-on is not about increasing strength, but about having maximum rejection of signals of the opposite polarisation (horizontal Vs vertical)

Is the receiver showing pictures when connected to a known good Astra 28 dish installation ??

We don't have enough information to help, is it a sky dish, what size is dish, has it an unobstructed view of the sky, what elevation was set on dish, is the lnb for a sky dish, or a bog standard lnb, how long is the cable from the dish to the receiver,, did you have a signal in the first place? Why move to 13e its lower in the sky than 28east and dish has different settings.

Here is a simple explanation. Sky dishes have a fixed lnb, that means the correct settings are fixed by the supplier, sky lnb's are fixed has the correct focal lenght from the front of lnb to face of dish, the elevation of a sky dish is almost vertical as you look from side but its usually 21-22% depend where you are located. There are 2 sky dishes, zone 1 48cm amd zone 2 68cm, zone 2 is best for ireland.

So your best method to get 28e is follow the above, tune receiver to BBC1 and wait, then if you get a picture move dish ever so slightly until best signal. then go to cnn and do same. To get a proper fix you need a vertical channel and a horizontal. If its a non sky lnb, you will have to twist to set skew and move in and out to set focal length. A bit of practice and its easy. But you don't go to other sats, that's a no, no.

If you go to dishpointer.com and put in your , location, select 28e press search then scroll down and you will get elevation for dish and skew for lnb, to set skew you look at lnb from front and turn clockwise. But you may need 2 people.

You cant guess its either right or wrong. Look on u tube as well.

ps if you have a smartphone you can get an app, I use dish align on iphone, you select sat 28east, select compass and it will show exactly where to point dish for 28e, lay it on lnb.

    So…

Getting the skew spot-on is not about increasing strength, but about having maximum rejection of signals of the opposite polarisation (horizontal Vs vertical)

I'v wondered about this for years,

    thanks Antenna.

Correct, it's about aligning the horizontal probe in the LNB's waveguide with the horizontal plane of the geostationary satellite arc for your location.

    Finally got it.

    Thanks for the help
