No.The game is still ruined by all the handpassing.

nearly got sick when it looked like Kilkenny got an injury.

Need to sort out the GK situation if Cluxton isn’t coming back. I think it’s gonna be a make or break tactic near the end of the champo.

I thought the Kerry lads would just keep ball and see it out. Subs the difference for Dublin?

Yeah people on boards never did like it when I just said it how it is. I'm sorry we muck in that first half wind or not. Was a different team in second half and Kerry didn't turn up. Look at the last day against Donegal as well they controlled us the whole game.

New fellas will get big confidence out this which is the main thing but Kerry where there for the taking we should never in million years been 11 behind.

that’s a great win, but the new rules plus a strong wind makes a bit of a farce of the game. It also makes a farce of analysis. All the talk at half time of dubs slow and static build up, Kerry ‘ruling the air’ etc etc. Dublin, undereducated their kick out on second half, because of the weather same as first half for us

when it reality Dublin played the conditions much better holding the ball way longer in first half then kerry did in second. It wasn’t embarrassing, Dublin did well into the wind except for the goal and would have won easily if not for their lucky goal and us but butchering a couple of goal chances, ref missing the clear footblock. Even fitzmaurice finally noticed it.

\having said that O’dell did really well with the 2 pointers, but we should have scored more of them from so many chances. Should have had a goal or two also. it was great experience for a few more players, eoghan O’Donnell did very well again. Gannon did well, really hope it’s not same injury.

He's a hard worker not a bad player to have in the squad but can't and won't be starting when everyone's back. Breathnach needs to be starting soon surely looks a top player.

congrats to ye Dubs on ye're win…

On the game itself… Austin Stack Park is near enough to the sea… so when a breeze is blowing.. its usually a strong one.. ive played there often enough to know… so a ten point lead at half time while looked great for Kerry definitely wasnt game over for the dubs… plus Kerry have a fine bad habit of letting teams creep up on them when there ahead and momentum is gone and game goes as well… plenty of examples over last 5/6years unfortunately…

i heard Vinny Murphy on Radio Kerry earlier talking about the Dubs not being as good this year and Leinster championship being a toss up.. he was critical enough of the management of the underage development squads in Dublin as well

Unfortunately Dublin are being judged on what they done in previous years and a squad that will never be replicated ever again by any county. There has been major issues with the youth teams for a long time though the players are just not coming through at the rate needed to replace the people who are leaving. We got away with it previous years but the pool has become massively drained now and there's huge pressure for the new fellas to hit the ground running. Some do but most don't and we have won **** all at youth level it's starting to show.

Again it's similar on the managers side of things no one was ever gonna come in and repeat what Gavin did he was exceptional one of the best of all time. Ill give Dessie credit for what he's achieved but I've just always found him ridiculously negative and that's coming from me hahaha! I wouldn't care if he was the most depressing person and had no personality but there's no excuse for the way he has some of those players playing over the last few years top top attacking players being held back and playing with fear to commit to forward thinking. Slow slow side ways crap.

I haven't been happy with how we have adapted to a lot of the new rules so far and it was the worst possible time for McCarthy and especially Fenton to leave but there has been positives to so I hope to god things can only get better! Say a prayer for some kind of good news on Lee Gannon as well.

Interesting comments from Vinny Murphy your former Kerry Hurler. I would disagree with his comments on Leinster it is very weak.

Is it about former Dublin midfielder? (I’m away , can’t watch).

What a workhorse, if only he could shoot! He’d run through teams on his own, always felt if Dublin just learned to have somebody ready to take a pass from him to put it over the bar, he’d get the most assists in the game.

Also, his first half performance in that horrible loss to mayo in 2006 , was immense, the work of two players in that game. Used to enjoy watching dubs train in Parnell back then, oddly nostalgic of the 90s/00s in spite of how bad they were for us.

I switched over to the snooker, cursing our incompetence. Turned it back on with about 10 minutes to go, what a comeback, it's always great to beat Kerry. It's the GAA El Classico. I look forward to the championship with some optimism. I agree with other posters, I'm concerned about who plays in goal.

Well worth the trip down to Tralee. Don't expect to win and certainly at HT just wanted a better second half. A horrible breeze, Comerford not helped by lack of options struggled with kickouts, ditto Shane Ryan in second half. Unreal comeback, some great scores from Gannon, O'Dell and Breathnach in particular. Sean Bugler tagged on the points.

The win is a great boost especially for the younger players, first win in Tralee since 1982. Only 3 of tonight first 15 started the 2023 AI final.

Finally Ciaran Kilkenny what a player and a leader, was brilliant around the middle in second half. One of our greatest and most consistent players.

Sigerson Cup final on Wednesday had a lot of up and coming Dublin players which bodes well for the future. Eoghan O'Connnor-Flanagan, Alex Gavin, Greg McEneaney, Ethan Dunne & Lorcan O'Dell featured for DCU. UCD had Theo Clancy, Charlie McMorrow, Peter Duffy, Luke Breathnach, Mark McNally and Senan Forker .

I was messing it was Saving Private Ryan - first thing I thought of. Certainly would bring more direct running into Dublin if was around now.

Will Kilkenny be the 2 pointer "go to" fella? He should go for more of them IMO that is two matches he has showed he can score them when the humour takes him.

One thing people need to remember is that in a game like last night where the wind makes it a game of two halves, an 11 point lead is not like an 11 point lead last year.

The two point option was only available to the team playing eind addisted. Dublin was always going to get a few good chances to nail some 2 pointers which they did, which enevitably brought them back into the game.

The tactic of holding the ball in the first half was correct. The old mantra of when you have the ball the opposition cant score could be applied here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,571 ✭✭✭rolling boh

I had my doubts we would get enough two pointers even with the wind based on the previous games .Definitely ten point leads are not as big with that scoring option available as we have seen in quite a few games this year .I still think the keeper should stay in his own half overall .Next up Derry a win would set us up nicely to give us a chance to fine tune how we play the new rules best with the champo not that far away .

Moral boosting win down in Tralee. Lots of positives. To eke out a narrow win after reeling in a hefty ht deficit was very sweet. I thought Dublin were full value for the win.

Was always going to be difficult against the gale in first half but the lads had lots of possession kept the ball well at times probably left a couple of scores behind them but they were still well in the game with the wind to come.

Bugler really turning into a powerful player led the troops in second half. Howard and Kilkenny very good. Defence was tight and disciplined good to see Davy Byrne back flying fit.

Lorcan O Dell (is his nickname Dellboy?) two super scores showing he has the bottle. Dublin keeping cool heads and composure finished so strong.

Always nice to beat the old enemy esoecially on their own patch. Mini Hill 16 on tour made all the noise in second half.

Really good night at the office. Lots of lads getting a chance. Competition for places will drive training to high levels.

With King Con and a few other stalwarts still to come back we have a lot to look forward to this year.

On the E O Donnell experiment im not really seeing what some others are. He scored a point into the wind and had a burst of a run close to goal in second half that was blocked. Apart from that fairly innocuous. A work in progress but i remain to be convinced he's a top class forward. No doubting his workrate but that is a given for any Dublin footballer.

  • Subscribers Posts: 16,883 ✭✭✭✭copacetic

took a massive hit for an easy free too, when he got turned he was fouled each time, Kerry got away with a couple of them, but you could see he has a nice sidestep and quick over first 5 yards, even when being dragged. Could see him easily getting and/or making a goal or two off the right ball in and turning and going for goal. Especially with 3 up, high balls in to him and Con would put manners on most defenses. Something like a footballing Eoin o’gara. Don’t necessarily think he is a ‘top class forward’ but he isn’t coming in to squad supposed to be, basically learning a new position under new rules. Obviously the management are looking for a different option as we have a lot of samey ones and he is certainly that. Off better ball and dry conditions he could be very good. Certainly a successful enough start for him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,238 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

It is a wonder why they didn’t try more high balls when with the wind. Peter Canavan commented on the lack of high balls into the forward line in many of the matches so far. Personally I like E’OD he has attributes others in the squad do not.

Was listening to Paul Flynn yesterday talk about how hard it is to transition from hurling to intercounty football and that O Donnell keeps getting blocked. He didn't seem too impressed anyway. He has similiar physicality to Con without the football skills imo. Always good to have options though. Dessie is giving hin a nice run of games you can see he needs them he is quite rusty.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,238 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

I think Dessie is trying to find a spot for him, not meaning to mention Shane Ryan again! But the E'OD reminds me of how Shane Ryan surprisingly did a great job when moved into midfield. And I was very sceptical at the time of the change of position, I remember. This time I am willing to wait and see on E'OD.

I would say E'OD might end up being just that impact sub when everyone is fit, thrown on late in games and can launch ball to him. That is the role that makes most sense to me anyway.

Yes i don't see him starting in championship when Con is back and possibly Costelloe and Paddy Small, also.

We will need a strong panel with lads pushing each other in training.

Interesting to see what impact if any E O Donnell will have later in year. Could be a masterstroke move for him if he gets playing time and wins an All Ireland.

Well the lasts days match was the second time Dessie Farrell made me look like right eejit, first time was that year of the AIQF v Mayo. And I was convinced Dublin would get hammered no bench etc. And he he ended up benching Kilkenny and the other main lads. Which turned out to be a masterstroke.

At one stage watching the Dublin v Kerry match the last day, I was nearly going to switch it off and go for a walk, I was getting that annoyed! Imagine I did!? 😆 I think it was only because I was eating a burger and chips that kept me there.

Anyway get the win on Saturday v Derry can start thinking of the league final, would be great to get that extra game. The team needs games and bedding in.
