Justyna did it! She's heading back to Eurovision after a 30 year absence.

    Poland

Not gonna lie, I think the song is horrible. Can't say she doesn't give it her all though! 😅

Just heard him now. His voice is in great condition anyway.

Another big weekend coming up with Estonia, Norway, Lithuania, Italy and Armenia all selecting their entries.

Haven't heard anything from the Norwegian selection, but I have heard a few stating that Emmy actually would've stood a good chance had they picked her to be part of the lineup!

Seemingly this is the frontrunner in Lithuania, and as my GF said, she's not really a fan, but the song stuck in her head.

I have to say I like it. I like seeing more bands lately, and I don't mind native language songs.

One of the highlights of last night's Sanremo "covers night" was the performance of Volaire, performed by contestant Lucio Corsi (who is clearly inspired by David Bowie) and his guest Topo Gigio. Unlike the other 28 singers in the competition, who invited human guests, Topo Gigio is a puppet mouse. It was very charming and very endearing, and finished second on the night. So it turns out you can bring a puppet to a singing festival and not look ridiculous.

This was absolutely amazing last night. Especially when Carlo brought out the mini bouquet to Topo.

Now as for tonight. Estonia about to kick us off and it seems the big favourite might be coming with really boring staging.
(Edit: Yes the staging for Tommy was nothing special. And there was cringe levels of forced audiance shots to make it look better than it was. Overall there is nothing special from this NF but if i had to pick one i hope to win it would be Elysa)

Norway i would be Joyful if Bobbysocks won

    (Edit: 3rd)

Sweden better send Greczula DTF (Direct to final. Get your minds out of the gutter)
(Edit: Yes this was the best part of the night)

Italy i think Lucio has a good chance tonight. 25/1 this morning and now into 10/1
(Edit: 2nd but wow that was close)

Lithuania is a tough one to call but i think Lion Ceccah might take a surprise win.
(Edit: 2nd and this one was not close. However when full results are released we may see some issues)

Iceland and Germany will Iceland and Germany lol.

This just won in Lithuania and I love it, straight to the top of my ranking. Two years in a row they've picked excellent entries.

Very different to anything else that has been chosen so far, in a good way.

Norway have gone for a fairly generic pop song with Kyle Alessandro, but it was the best of a bad bunch.

The less said about Estonia the better.

    Estonia

Oh wow Estonia! I don't quite know what to say. Weird to go for novelty two years on the trot. It'll probably still qualify, before bombing in the final. Likely a similar result to last year.

    Norway

Pretty generic and basic, like something you'd see in a Melodifestivalen heat. Can see it sneaking into final and not doing much else.

    Lithuania

I like this! Think it takes a little long to get going, and doesn't quite get where it needs to, but this is another quality entry from Lithuania.

    Italy

He hasn't confirmed his participation yet, but as always we can be 99% sure that this will be Italy's entry.

Overall I'd say it's another solid entry from Italy. Will do comfortably well without ever threatening for the win, finishing somewhere in the 4th-7th region.

Italy is disappointing for me, I don't think they deserve a top ten result with this song. It might do well with the juries though, especially with so many unserious songs this year.

Having committed to Sanremo for three nights this week, this was a very disappointing outcome. Balorda nostalgia is a generic ballad and Olly doesn't sing, he shouts. But rather bizarrely, while the point of Sanremo is to choose a song to win Sanremo and not a song to win Eurovision, it was the best option for Eurovision out of the final five.

My favourite song of the final five was L'albero della noci by Brunori Sas, but I couldn't see it perform well at Eurovision. Giorgia, who shockingly finished outside of the top five, has an amazing voice and would probably have walked the jury vote in Basel.

I don't think Olly's confirmed yet if he's going to Eurovision, but if he does, it would be the weakest Italian entry in quite a few years. However, a hunky Italian man singing a ballad will likely pull in a decent amount of televotes, and with the juries likely to shun the many novelty songs this year and go for something more serious, he should still finish in the top 10.

Olly has a lot of concerts booked around Eurovision so hasnt made a decision yet. He said it could take a week before he makes a choice. From some Italians that i know they feel its quite likely he wont be going and then the option will go to Lucio.

Dont forget we have the Armenian NF today at 4pm our time. Its a bit lacking in quality with only 2 or 3 really good songs. Flora Bichakhchyan, Parg, and Athena Manoukian will probably battle it out.

I think Olly has until 23 Feb to decide. There's no doubt Lucio was the breakout star of the week, but I don't see Eurovision suiting him at all.

If Olly doesn't go, it'll be the first time since 2016 that the Sanremo winner has turned down the opportunity to go to Eurovision.

A shout-out to Francesco Gabbani who finished 8th last night having won the new proposals section in 2016 with Amen, won with Occidentali's Karma in 2017 and finished second in 2020 with Vice Versa - really enjoyed his performances this year with his song Vita la Vida, think he's great!

Armenia have just selected Parg with Survivor. Its not great but it didnt have to beat much to take the win. I honestly think that was one of the worst National finals ever. And if you are thinking about watching it i would strongly reccomend that you dont,

This is supposedly a snippet of the Mans Zelmerlow song....it is kind of...awful...

Of the songs I have heard I would be going for Klara Hammarstrom, it only qualified second in it's heat but seems to be doing decent streaming numbers.

It would be quite a hit to his ego if Måns doesn't win MF and win Eurovision. I can imagine the ESC juries swooning over him, but I can't see him doing very well in the televote. I think quite a lot of fans have Måns fatigue as well.

Worth mentioning that Loreen tried again in 2017, failed, then made another attempt in 2023…

EDIT: since I posted my original reply, I've looked at the Bluesky profiles of a few Eurofans I used to follow back when I used Twitter…general consensus seems to be that it sounds dated, but that juries will fall over themselves to vote for it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,072 ✭✭✭Sparks43

Mans had 2 attempts before winning with Heroes. Cara Mia and Hope and Glory both failed. Loreen also had 2 failed attempts with Statements and My heart is refusing me.

Also that above clip is a fake.

And of course, she has to have a dig at EMMY because we didn't send the Louis Walsh act:

“I wouldn't rate our chances very highly now, being honest with you, and it sounds terrible, but I just wouldn't, because I know what the opinions are coming in from Europe already."

If Samantha had won, she'd be fawning over her saying she (wait for it) could "go all the way."

I suspect this never happened. She wanted to get her two cents in about EMMY and no one was interested…so she jazzed up the story a bit.

In other Eurovision news today, Azerbaijan unveiled their entry earlier:

For several reasons, Azerbaijan is one of my least favourite Eurovision countries, but it's great that for the third year in a row, they've stayed away from the Melfest reject songs and the Swedish songwriters.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,072 ✭✭✭Sparks43

Ok the snippet has dropped. This aint winning Melfest let alone Eurovision.

Unless something really special drops next week i think Greczula wins in the final.

This is as bad as the fake one I posted…I will be cheering on Klara

BBC1 will be showing this year's "Big Eurovision Party" concert on Friday 7th March.

Don't think we'll get a duet from the Irish performers :)

The Big Eurovision Party includes performances and interviews from Eurovision stars past and present including: Loreen, Nemo, Käärijä, Katrina (Katrina and the Waves), Johnny Logan, Marija Šerifović, Baby Lasagna, Bambie Thug, Edsilia Rombley, Guy Sebastian, Kristian Kostov, Alessandra and Marcus & Martinus to name but a few.

Listen to 18-23 seconds of Mans and then this. Its literally identical.

His staging is said to be amazing though

I briefly had a Twitter account (deleted even before Elmo came on board) and followed quite a few Eurofans on there. The whole culture on there of "IF YOU DON"T AGREE WITH MY OPINION ON A SONG YOU MUST BE DEAF OR DELUDED" is incredibly tiring.

His song is incredibly "mid." Like in 2015, he'll have incredible staging and the juries on his side.
