the utter cheek of Vance lecturing Europe about democracy. His president attempted to subvert it. what a weirdo.

The legions of Trumpists and Putin bots on social media seem to be under the impression that the EU annulled the Romanian election result as per Vance's speech, when it had nothing to do with them and was instead annulled by the Romanian constitutional court.

Of course the Trump fan base doesn't care about negotiations on Ukraine: they care for almost nothing outside the USA (except maybe the "Gulf of America"). Most Americans don't have passports: tells you a lot. I would like to see the proportion of MAGA fans who have ever been outside the USA.

Did you like when Musk's son told Trump to go away, that he wasn't the President and STFU?

From the mouths of babes, eh?

What can be done to prevent the far right movement gaining power in Europe?

There has to be a reason it’s happening.

From what I can see in my social groups is no one feels heard about undocumented immigration.

You guys are the gift that keep giving 🤣

So what was your favourite ‘nice moments of Musk and his son’ take your pick:

    1. Musk’s sprog telling trump to sush his mouth as he was not the real president 😮
    2. The look on trumps face on hearing ^^ and his body language looked like man that felt humiliated.
    3. Musk jnr. emptying the contents of his nose on the presidential desk that aul Donnie eats his Big Mac & fries of.

Can you answer the questions rather than just replying to dismiss it.

Just catching some of the Vance clips now. HOLY FOOK, what an embarrassment. This lot are an utter clown show.
Coming to Europe and lecturing us about democracy ffs 🤣 and then equating “4 years of scolding from Greta Thunberg” to a few months of Elon Musk. The guy is an absolute turd.

Like non stop... a tremendous amount.

Vance is such a loser, trying to tell Americans how to love like Jesus one moment and telling Romanians that America can't help them. Are Americans running a Romanian aid program I was unaware of?

The problem is he can just say whatever he wants, he does not engage in argument when challenged and so I think the approach needs to change from dealing with these people like they might be rational actors, to just ignoring their statements. They provide no evidence and are unwilling to argue their case, they should just be dismissed with equally little effort.

I think that after a few months or years of this, they will just become less relevant. Yes they still have a big stick, the US economy and military but they will lose all credibility politically.

Is that not risky? Leaving the lies unchallenged? Some people will believe it.

I would have thought it should be constantly challenged by leading political figures, explaining why it’s bullshit and spelling out the consequences.

Im sure some voters are just ignorant and believing what they hear.

He may have been undiplomatic but what did JD say that wasn't true?

You could read it, and still wouldn't see it.

Let me put it this way,the following votes have been contested within a massive conversation on immigration topics.

US 2016 Presidential, Brexit, UK General election 2019, US 2020 Presidential, France National Elections 2024, UK General election Dutch National Elections 2024, Irish general election 2024, European Parliament elections 2024

"Haven't been heard on immigration".… The rest of us have been listening to these voices non stop.

There are a few lads in my social group that spend alot of time going on about their "legitimate concerns". Except it's not just "undocumented migration". It's Indians here on work visas, Ukrainians, Brazilians, our "culture" being eroded etc etc.

"Undocumented" is just a useful phrase where they don't have to actually explain their concerns because they cant.

It boils down to their view that all the ills on society are to be blamed on immigrants. And the fact they just don't want foreigners here. They consume media that just reinforces this view, because they want to consume media that reinforces this view.

Unfortunately for them no foreigners isn't going to happen, but it's a useful way for right wing grifters to make the promises that they want to hear.

There is also a surprising overlap between those guys and not having ever lived outside of ireland

If the undocumented weren't here, they would just pivot to something else.

The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God.

    Leviticus 19:34

Well certainly his little spat with Rory Stewart about his interpretation of how Jesus taught his followers to love in a hierarchy with family followed by community followed by country followed by the world etc. was 100% incorrect, if anything Jesus said to live your enemy more than your friend. And when challenged on it, he said that rory was elitist with a lower than expected IQ.

I mean it was absolute nonsense.

Then he is talking in Europe about Romanian constitutional court ruling and German political firewalls and how they are undemocratic and America can't help them. But America has un fettered corporate funding of politics leading to a de facto oligarchy, gerrymandered constituencies, active suppression of voting of the working classes and those from minorities, wall to wall propagandizing on entertainment shows pretending to be news. Their superior court is openly political, so not an independent leg of democracy like in Ireland for example.

I mean marks out of ten they would get like a 5 and Germany and 8 imo. The big one being that money from corporate donors and superpacs is now the most important factor in winning an election.

Pretty easy to understand when you're not an ignoramus and actually listen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,355 ✭✭✭joseywhales

No, people have been trying that for a decade or so. There's no point anymore. People don't have time or attention span to consume long form investigative analysis in newspapers and tv . They figured out how to hack the game. Advertising, entertainment shows, armies of bots and short digestible reinforcing messages that make people comfortable in their own bias. Nobody cares anymore, they just want a few endorphins and to feel vindicated and less vulnerable

remember, the US congress had bipartisan immigration legislation in hand they refused to take up after passage by the Senate because Convict Trump said so. Plenty of voices being heard on immigration - plenty more ranting about it and not listening to what's being said or done.

During Trump 1.0., the Washington Post documented Trump's lies: I think they eventually passed the 30,000 mark. Given the WP's recent form, I don't think they are doing this again. Does anyone know if there is some reliable news outlet listing Trump's 2025-29 lies?

I would like to see them classified intl (a) the demonstrably outright factual falsehoods; (b) the outright misrepresentation of the views of political rivals; ( c) omissions of fact which create a completely false picture of what is happening.

Any bets on the porkie pie count as of to-day?
