Parents ordered one - well my mum did - definitely pensioner age!

She has been driving an ioniq which she bought new in 2018 and wants a higher seat and more range. Suits her perfectly. Has a good relationship with the Hyundai garage in rathdrum which is half the battle. She tried the Kia lads outside wicklow and didn't feel like they were taking her seriously so decision made and happy to wait a few months if needs be.

She has been waiting for a smaller hyundai with more range for a while - won't entertain going back to ICE. The inster absolutely nails it in all her requirements

The Inster is not a car I would ever personally buy (or possibly even fit in :)), but I have to say it is a fantastic addition to the EV landscape and will suit many people - a lot of car for not much money at all.

I think VW will rue not getting an ID2 out sooner, and the Inster will still be 20% cheaper.

Went for a test drive about today, it’s very impressive and not even for the money it just feels really good. Handles well, has plenty power. I was really surprised about how spacious it feels it does not feel anywhere near as small as it looks from outside. Overall very pleased with it a very good replacement for our 10 year old leaf.
there is something very likeable about the INSTER

Those who have collected your car already… did it come with floor mats or did you have to pay extra?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,580 ✭✭✭digitaldr

Mine came with car mats - seem to be good quality too.

Got the call from the dealer today, car has arrived in, should be ready tomorrow or Friday. Looking forward to it now 😊. Dealer offered an upsell of paint protection, mats and boot liner for 500 but I demurred. I am hoping it does indeed come with mats!

    Edit - I'm not yet a pensioner!

Was looking at the insters available on donedeal, most of the ads say 5 year warranty, only one said 8 years, surely 5 is wrong?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,488 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

Five year vehicle warranty and 8 year battery warranty with Hyundai.

does anyone know battery chemistry? is that LFP or NMC? want to know if can charge to 100%

You can charge to 100% if you're actually going to use it. Just don't let it sit at 100% (above 80%) for days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 120 ✭✭jmpie

it’s NCM in the INSTER, both types can be charged to 100% just don’t leave the NCM sitting around at 100% charge it and use it to hen you need 100% and it will be fine.

The LFP is a bit more forgiving and also needs 100% charge to calibrate the 0-100% as it a very flat voltage curve to difficult to know the charge level without going to 100% when it suddenly increases voltage.

Had a test drive again the other day, still very tempted by it. While it's the size of a super mini externally with long wheel base and clever packaging it has nearly as much space as your normal c segment family hatchback. With boot all the way back 4 six footers could still sit comfortably. If you are all of average height or below 4 can still fit with boot forward to maximise boot space. While I'd prefer a more traditional hatch shape the compact dimensions do mean the Inster needs the extra height. It mightn't have as much power as most EVs but it's still quicker than your average 1.6 VAG TDi. I found it pretty brisk in sports mode up to 100. I'd say it beats it's official 0-100. The older Ioniq was officially 10.1 but could do 8.6.

Other short list is MG 4 and Renault Megane which are 4.7k to 10.8k dearer depending on spec. While I prefer them and the extra power and space would be nice 95% of the time the Inster will more than serve my needs. The lack of 5th seat is biggest issue but can just take my wife's car. It's a lot of money saved I can spend elsewhere.

Anyone who's got theirs done any night driving? What are the headlights like?

    image.png

Rear seats at two extremes. Drivers seat at my postion. I'm only 174cm but do sit back. I could still drive it with seat forward another inch or two if I had someone who needed the legroom. My family and inlaws are all much shorter than even my short arse though!

Boot with seats fully forward, Should have dropped or taken out raised boot floor also to see full space. Will be interesting to see's Bjorns banana box test!

Based on the city night driving I've done the headlights are excellent, I'd say it helps that they're so low down. Probably not far off our Ariya! I haven't had a chance to check the auto dimming - another unexpected feature at this price point. Of course projection led headlights and sliding rear seats are only available on the Elegance spec. I would advise anyone considering the Inster to go for the Elegance if you can possibly stretch to it. I know for me selling my old car privately covered the extra versus the trade in price the Hyundai dealer was offering.

I've already tried auto dimming on mine - works better than I do it manually half the time :)

I have auto dimming in my current car and I think they are too slow to react but still faster than half the drivers I meet! 😜

I'd hope the Inster is better but it can hardly react as a driver who is anticipating and dips at the last second coming around a bend or over a rise. Do find a lot of drivers only dip when they see the other driver dip so for them auto dimming is better It is handy though on a long drive when you are more inclined to tune out but I still override mine a lot.

Good to hear, any of that on unlit roads? Yes well worth going for the Elegance, they will be a lot more desirable for resale. Trying to decide if I want to sell privately but not sure I want the hassle even if I could get an extra 1 or 2k.

Hyundai dealer offered me 1k for my good condition 2010 Mazda Demio with 124k on the clock, passed NCT Sept last, rear parking sensors fitted, alarm, head unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple car play and 1 year old Alpine sub. I put it up on adverts and Donedeal this afternoon and sold it this evening for 3.2k to a really nice guy who had 60 positive feedbacks on Adverts. A lot of the Donedeal enquires seemed a bit dodgy. Maybe I was just lucky but it was no hassle at all and a hell of a lot better than accepting the trade in offer. I have done a lot of buying and selling on adverts - the feedback system works brilliantly.

Test driving tomorrow. I've seen that colour combo in the video reviews and the retro check interior is lovely.

    Hi folks,

Very interested in the Inster for my next EV.

Just wondering if anyone has been able to 100% confirm either way, if V2L through an adapter is available on the Irish version. It's deal breaker for me. I know the internal socket isn't available in Ireland and there seems to be uncertaintly regarding functionality via adaptor.

Also, any news on when/if the Inster Cross is coming to Ireland? It looks to be around £2k more than the top trim of the standard Inster in UK.

Just had a test drive & loved it. Looks small from the outside but spacious inside. Really comfortable seats & just a nice ride. Talked it over with my wife on the way home & rang the dealer to put a deposit down, delivery end of April. It just has character to me, something most modern cars don't have.

There is no V2L option in the menu of mine (it is usually between charging and climate scheduling) so I assume it’s not available.

Manual also says “if quipped “
