anyone know when the replacement show begins, Tonight Show is still listed.

    ______

In the end they were just greedy, they all knew one another and knew what to expect more money for no return, it was a secure cash flow, but in fairness they looked for what they wanted and fair dues to them for that, and wouldn't you be doing the same!

Just one more thing .... when did they return that car

I presume Gavin Riley isn't getting the gig?

He's been around a long time now and still hasn't updated his work experience version of broadcasting. In fact I'm not even sure why he's in broadcasting at all.

He is currently hosting, but there was a suggestion that they are replacing the series with a new show consisting of 3 hosts!

After Vinny left they had Cooper and Yates hosting together and it was a mess with both trying to question the panel at the same time.

3 hosts would be a clusterfook.

Reilly hosting again this week: starting to look like a permanent arrangement….

I think VMTV are just reducing staff numbers TBH. They realize the bare minimum works, why bother doing anything more.

Do you think he is any good?

Yep, find him sharp, lively, definitely an improvement on his female predecessors if he gets the gig…

I was just thinking how dull he is, I find him to be a bit of a know it all but not actually as knowledgeable as he thinks he is, possibly like most people in fairness, bit of an actor. And the other show he sit on (The Group Chat) is pretty pointless, all agreement and nothing else.

I think he's a good presenter too, but, I miss looking at Claire Brock - she definitely held my attention

Miriam is well past it, Sarah is streets ahead of her.

Just sums up why we should never vote for the absolute left win nutters that SD are

The damage they would do to our country would be worse than Trump could ever cause

Dull is the word. How he ended up in broadcasting I don't know. Virgin Media have given up if he becomes the permanent host. Didn't Newstalk axe him off the radio a while ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,256 ✭✭✭purifol0

Ah another program about housing and only Dan O Brien dared to say the I word (immigration).

Rory Hearne losing all credibility because "only supply is the issue", excess demand because mass immigration is only "far right " nonsense.

The govt stoodge next to him simultaneously talking and yet saying nothing except parroting the govt line.

Kieran Cuddihy gets the gig. Don't think he has been a stand in before?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 289 ✭✭AJB39

He’s stood in on a few occasions before. I’m hoping they take the opportunity to give the show a new look and format. I think the current look is very stale now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 79,509 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

Didn't know that. Never heard him before as I don't listen to that station or show.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 92,394 ✭✭✭✭JP Liz V1

I didn't even think Kieran Cuddihy was in the running

I think would prefer Gavin Reily rather than Kieran Cuddihy. Not a fan of his radio show.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,052 ✭✭✭✭Galwayguy35

Often listen to Cuddihy on the way home, seems to be a decent enough presenter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,052 ✭✭✭✭Galwayguy35

Hearne never had any credibility in the first place, but he is an ideal fit for the SDs who must be the most leftie woke party ever.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,743 ✭✭✭RoTelly

It is bizzare to think that they reduced the show to 2 but then decided to get a relatively big name to host the show.

If I think Reilly is dull, I think Cuhidy is twice the bore. I think it will be the final nail in the coffin for The Tonight Show and they will state oh it costs too much and its audience is falling away.

This is VMTV, they had VB sit in front of a desk with a black canvas table cover for most of his run, this upgrade since 2020 will do for them. This is not TV its a podcast!

Cuddihy is the type of person who stands behind someone talking and making faces, throwing the eyes to heaven and that type of stuff. He's a goon. What the **** is wrong with this country that we can't get good journalists, I give Sarah McInerney a pass here, she's good. The rest? All aiming for government advisor jobs.

Timeslot was always it's biggest drawback or hold back, even in Vincent's time. Should have tried to command a 9pm slot when it was at it's peak.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,256 ✭✭✭purifol0

Yep, but back when Vincent was on it was always worth watching. Plus most lads didn't have a job to go to anymore so they could stay up late 😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,256 ✭✭✭purifol0

Actually the main problem we have with hosts in general is....they're not old.

Not only do they not have the frame of reference Vincent had, you can still be well read and a decently knowledgeable

No, the real issue is that they are private sector workers with no job security so they absolutely won't grill the govt. And their apparatchiks to the level needed since they also would hop on the gravy train if a seat was made available...which it often is if the journalist says the right things about the right people to a large enough audience.

    But

Remember Ivan Yates, an absolute blowhard indeed who become in sufferable due to an inflated ego by essentially being in TV too long.

Yet at the start he would grill the great and the good all the same simply because he knew his ministerial pension couldn't be touched.

You won't get that with Gavin or the rest, they simply won't take the risk of career suicide and it's much easier to be nice to pols in order to get the insider exclusives

Anyone remember him getting a text from Leo live on air? The perils of screen sharing your phone while broadcasting...
