Honda Hybrids Transmission Software Issue (Trouble Code)

Hello everyone.

Some Honda owners who drive Honda Hybrids with a dual-clutch transmission (i-DCT), Fits, Shuttles, Vezels, etc, have encountered the P-1737 code. This is a trouble code DTC about the issue with the first gear that won't go away even if you try to delete it.

If you would like a solution to this and some other software support for your Honda, you can ask away.

Its not always a software issue - In the dct box this error comes up if the gear oil has been "cooked" and not lubricating properly causing the solenoids to stick in the box - when you drain it the oil will smell burnt and will be black.

From experience a gear oil change fixes it almost every time - it it doesnt resolve it then it needs a clutch pack - The DCT boxes use a special Honda only oil called ATF-DW1 and a change is due every 40k - most Jap imports have never had a change dpne so if anyone if buying one with the DCT box - get a gear oil change straight away with the right fluid.

Yes, It requires physical programming with professional equipment. And quite some time.

Maybe solenoid is the wrong term - they are electro / mechanical valves (solenoids??) and they are inside the DCT actuator on top of the box. How else do you think it changes gear??

Im sorry but you havent a clue what you are on about - Ive been an aftersales manager for Honda for almost 20 years and I happen to know a small bit about the DCT box and the issues it gives and 90% of the time a gear oil change fixes it.

I don't know what your problem is, but I don't force anything. Those populist claims "rip people off", are you serious? There is a service and it's cost, you don't have to take it if you don't want.

If you think you can do it better, please, be my guest. If you think a Honda dealership can do it, go ahead and ask them. As soon as they hear "JDM", they say "we don't do that". An update from Honda that deals with european cars for a JDM car won't fix anything.

I had a huge JDM customer base as I was one of the only Honda garages in Dublin that would even look at them-even looked after multiple people here on boards with no charge to them - some of them were JDM software updates.

The Honda diagnostic machine has multiple markets on it and its literally 2 clicks to change it to JDM so you arent putting Euro software on a JDM model - you are putting JDM updates straight from Honda Japan on to it.

I don't intend to explain all the things you did not get right in your theory. I know the solution, and I don't have to explain every detail of it.

If you think you can do it, please do, but you choose to debate here rather than offer your solution or recommend another service (official dealer, whoever) who can resolve it.

We had this error with our Honda Vezel, brought it to Attitude Motors in Newcastle and they sorted it, also got the dash cluster language changed to English too. They did a great job and the car is driving like a new car. Highly recommend them.

Software update and gearbox 'service', got the language changed on the cluster too while they had the car.

I own a honda vezel myself and its put on the transmission inspection warning light. just wondering would i have the same issue? my car seems to be missing gears when i petal is pushed hard any info would be great, people are saying i need a ecu update but I'm not car expert :)

I think the term you used was appropriate and the OP was obfuscating (love that word - haven’t been able to use it in ages! 🤣) because last time I checked ‘solenoids’ and ‘solenoid valves’ are types of electromechanical actuator for controlled movement of a component (by valves, levers, switches whatever) which is evidently the type of device you were referring to. This ‘veil of mystery’ MO is one reason lawyers get such a bad rap…

Worse still the OP and subsequent posts were not open and transparent, leading people (justifiably, especially with the label “HondaEnthusiast”) to infer that he created this thread in the spirit of the board (i.e. mutual help and support) when in fact it was simply touting for business. That’s what puts people’s backs up, and all other car forums I’ve joined previously have always had strict rules against not being ‘upfront’

The symptoms you're describing may indicate that one of the clutch bearings (for odd or even gears) has a hydraulic leak that has led to an empty hydraulic circuit. It could require a full clutch assembly replace / repair. It's hard to be more specific without an inspection.
