Honestly Trump is a Dementia Addled Muppet with no coherent plan and purely out for himself. His actions are motivated by vainglorious narcissism and spite. Can't even stand to watch any of his speeches as it's all rambling incoherent garbage. The problem though is that he's not the biggest threat simply because he's incompetent and idiotic but rather it's that malicious idiot Musk who's the real problem not to mention the other regressive actors he's dragged in the White House door like dog shite on ones shoes and these are the ones who might do serious damage to US institutions. Nearly every attack on institutions since Trump took office 3 weeks ago has had some sort of issue with Musk's companies in one way or another over the years as well.

Imagine Howard Hughes showing up at the Oval Office and giving a televised address talking unsubstantiated nonsense while a kowtowed Lyndon Johnson sits down like he has been put in time out time and stares into space for the duration of Hughes' waffle.

Its almost as if he does not understand (surprise, surprise) the globalisation that America has pushed for, for decades has given everyone other options to trading with the US.

Mid terms generally do tend to favour the opposition in recent years but Trump and "President Musk" are going full tilt on wrecking US institutions that they could end up pissing off enough people that the Republicans get decisively routed in November 26'. It should be also noted that Republicans have a razor thin majority in the house atm as well and they will come under serious pressure if there's government shutdowns because the crazy wing starts derailing things and Dems decide to point blank refuse to bail them out over Trump and Musk's unlawful attacks on oversight and institutions.

In his head, he's a mix between king of the world and Gary Cooper in High Noon.

Everyone inside or outside the US is his minion. We're here to serve his vision and when he says jump we should say how high. He honestly thinks we're all living in fear of his threats, just like the other coward, Putin, with his nuclear sabre rattling.

The Hostage ultimatum of 12 noon is right out of a cowboy movie. He even said how he couldn't understand how people could be so mean as to hold people hostage whilst advocating for an escalation in the violence which has seen at least 60,000 people killed.

Let’s see- I know how the history playbook goes- but we may well be seeing something different this time - the Democrat senators look and sound dejected right now - they should be coming across as much stronger - sowing the seeds of Trumps downfall - creating fear of what’s to come - that should be the Democrat playbook right now - not happening

"Honestly Trump is a Dementia Addled Muppet with no coherent plan and purely out for himself."

    I agree.

"The problem though is that he's not the biggest threat simply because he's incompetent and idiotic but rather it's that malicious idiot Musk"

Yes I agree. Musk is nasty and unhinged at the moment. If I were American I would be raging what Trump is letting him do as he was not elected in anyway and demanding he not be allowed do anymore. If I were American.

I think Americans sane ones are slowly starting to stand up and protest now.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

The Orange moron still doesn't have a clue how tariffs work:

"Under the Trump Reciprocal Trade Act, other countries will have two choices -- they'll get rid of their tariffs on us, or they will pay us hundreds of billions of dollars, and the United States will make an absolute FORTUNE."

US citizens and companies pay the tariffs, you imbecile.

    So what?

A gaggle of people carrying placards that read, 'No to Oligarchy!' worries absolutely no-one. It's nearly counterproductive in the sense that it'll do nothing of import but the protestors will feel like they've done something and go away satisfied. Musk is probably laughing.

You cannot meet the kind of determination and radicalism which lies behind MAGA with peace, patience and respect for due process. You'll lose every time.

The Democrats are going to have to lay down a far heavier challenge very, very quickly or face losing their country altogether. That is the stark reality of it.

The next US presidential election is a while down the road yet for the 2 parties but I expect they are both analysing the effect of Putin's war in Ukraine is having on the estimated electorate of around 1,009,874 people of Ukrainian descent and 2,432,733 people of Russian ancestry in the US.

Toss in two other electoral factors; that of people of Arab descent looking at what Trumps big plan is for the Arabs in Gaza, expelling them from their ancestral lands into Egypt and Jordan AND the illegal immigrants from south [and lately north] of the border.

That might explain the silence of the Democratic Party given how they were trounced by the GOP in the last election. Trump is giving them all the opportunity they need to avoid the blame when things go wrong. Its increasingly only MAGA-GOP fingers at the wheel.

If Trumps tariff wars go wrong for HIS economy, will the value of the US dollar suffer and throw the US into a dive? Who is the financial genius Trump is willing to allow affect the way his federal economy goes?

Why should the democrats bother targeting those of Arab descent?

They wanted Trump to finish the region off so no idea how the dems can win their vote unless they promise to nuke the place.

You have media like gript emerging because all of Irish media sings from the same liberal hymn sheet. There is no diversity of thought, at all.

In the past you had genuine plurality of views but over the past 30 years it's been on a journey to, if we are being honest a rather smug consensus.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,066 ✭✭✭✭briany

Maybe Irish media had a liberal bent because it was a reflection of its readership. This is a people who have decisively voted in favour of same sex marriage and abortion in recent referenda. We've already tried the kind of socially repressive theocracy that the American right wing appears to be striving for, and god was it ever fcuking shee-ite.

King Abdullah II became both the first Arab leader to meet with U.S. President Trump, and the first to directly reject his proposal to relocate Gaza's two million Palestinians to Jordan.

In the past you had 2 television stations 2 national English speaking radio stations and a heavily church influenced written media. Like "heavily" heavily.

I don't think there's any evidence to suggest Irish media was more diverse in the past. Unless yiu want to tell us what time frame and outlets strike you as having been outside the norm.

He wants to return all of these industries to the US but there is no skilled labour for any of it anyway, us is at full employment, would have to import millions of workers if the on shore all pharma and chip manufacture and steel etc etc. but of course it doesn't have to make any sense because he is just lying as usual. He just wants to threaten everyone and get some kind of token victory he can point to. Why does Europe even have tariffs on US vehicles. Apart from the odd collectors item or because you might want a pickup for the craic, why would you want a high mpg , unreliable American car?

Imagine how high your water bills would be now.

Thank your lucky stars FG's **** attempt at privatising our water failed.

You should be on your knees thanking those "knuckledraggers".

One word of warning for everyone back home, at all costs do not import us food. I've lived here for about 8 years and I immediately realized I was gaining weight without changing diet or exercise. I don't know wtf they put in it but the highly processed food somehow is even more calorific and full of absolute ****. I try not to think about the milk and the meat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,673 ✭✭✭ceadaoin.

Processed food anywhere is bad for you, not just here but the shite here is definitely a lot worse than what would be allowed on the shelves in Europe. I hope they can get in line with the food standards from home because the amount of crap in the food here is ridiculous.

Same as you, when I first moved here I gained a few pounds from eating out and trying all the 'american food' that I'd grown up seeing on TV and in movies. Lost it again once I'd calmed down on all that. Now I just cook normal food from scratch and find the meat is fine, especially from trader joes, whole foods etc. Obviously i still eat out and get takeaways sometimes but I do try to avoid the majorly processed stuff. It's disgusting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,698 ✭✭✭✭Igotadose

Most of our neighbours when they visit the banana republic of America, go vegetarian for the duration of their visits because the meat and eggs are so bad. We do the same, I marvel at how I grew up thinking I ate great American food and then moved to Ireland and realized how bad it was back in the US.

No question the food here is much better. America's great at junk food and there are few things I can't get here, but I've learned to live without them, quite happily.

They should talk. The US should demand that Russia withdraws from Ukraine, pay reparations and hand over Putin so he can face justice.

If you have issues comprehending my simple analogy, I'm open to any questions you might have.

You must have missed all the Iona bots with their opinion pieces in newspapers and being wheeled out very opportunity for their "alternative views"

Media like gript emerged because certain sections of society just want their views validated regardless of reality or facts

I love the way things that are completely different are presented as identical because of a single similarity.

Photo op =/= Press briefing on policy. But by all means pretend its the exact same👍️
