Whole lot of meh there from me. Housemarque game looked bland and I would have wrote it off if not for the developer.

Hopefully the AC rereleases meant theres more Armored Core on the way.

Toshiro Mifune is the likeness for the Onimusha protagonist, which is well cool. Funnily enough he played the same character in a trilogy of films, though I've not heard great things about them

Very much giving some Seven Samurai energy with the goofball stuff. I would prefer the cool dude version of Mifune but it's still going to be fun I reckon

Now we just need Nakadai in the sequel, he's still kicking around

I think all we saw of the new Housemarque game, yeah if it was any other developer you could easily dismiss it until we see more. But even the shot of the spiralised projectiles is enough to show this is the spiritual successor to Returnal, which is still one of the best PS5 games. Love Rahul Kohli too so look forward to seeing his performance. Too early to judge the game given what little we've seen, but this was one of the most exciting things shown last night.

Also loved the Shinobi trailer, had completely forgotten about that. Could be a lot of fun. MGS3 trailer would have been the highlight for me if it hadn't leaked. Lies of P DLC is great, I nearly went to replay it a few months ago but decided not to. Now I can play just before the DLC comes out. Some of the other games shown definitely interest me, but are very much wait and see.

Can't believe they're really doing Days Gone Remastered...

TBH that reflection of a bullet hell spiral and Housemarque logo was all I needed to get excited about Saros, though I quite liked the visual and conceptual premise of a dying sun too. But it's a CGI trailer, so very little to go on beyond that.

Honestly thought boring Ubisoft shlooter trying to differentiate itself with some Indian mythology. At least I know housemarque can pull that off.

That game from the ex GTA devs with the androids looks so bland.

Dreams of Another could be good. Sees Q games are involved.

Shinobi does look good but I'm concerned about the amount of multihit enemies in the trailer. Old Shinobi is about flow and one hit enemies, being combo focused could slow everything down. The new ninja Gaiden seems to have that right. Saying that I initially wrote off SoR4 but ate my words when I played it.

Everything else that was good was already know but was nice to see some Onimusha.

    As for Days Gone...

People that got excited for Days Gone Remastered:

Been playing a lot of Ninja Gaiden Black 2 Sigma and it's even more glaringly obvious that the game was always badly unfinished. However it's also obvious that the development team took a Nintendo approach to developing the game and it pretty much saves it from being awful.

The first Ninja Gaiden is an out and out classic. Once you get to the main area of the game it branches off and then folds back in on itself wonderfully and creates a brilliant sense of place to the whole thing. It's not all fighting either, there's puzzles, platforming. It even makes full use of the games move set with some shooting sections and parkour. Ninja Gaiden 2 on the other hand is just a linear walk through a corridor Interrupted by fights.

On the other hand, said fights are beautifully choreograghed dances of extreme violence. Ryu's move set and movement have been polished to a sheen and each enemy forces you to approach them very differently. That's where the Nintendo approach is obvious, the dev team made sure that the games movement and combat were polished before moving on to the level design... Which is where they ran out of time and half arsed it.

The levels were obviously built to be hubs like in ninja Gaiden 1 but I think they shot themselves in the foot by setting the game in multiple locations, each one was probably supposed to be it own hub and there's signs of that everywhere.

Still it's a testament to the design process that even though it's badly rushed it's still one of the finest action games of all time and way above stuff like God of war (even if it maybe could have taken lessons from God of war in how it handles camera).

I drove over 1600 kilometres in EA WRC. I can forget about winning the WRC2 Championship too. Was nowhere at Monte Carlo, skipped Sweden and blew the chance to win in Croatia due to a twenty second penalty.

My only lasting memory of old Shinobi is fighting Spider-Man and Man-Bat.

Also, I can't believe Randy Pitchford has pulled a State of Play in a few weeks just for Borderlands 4. It's not a good sign when even the reveal of the game is cringeworthy by having two people called Randy, a joke that got old before it even started.

Revenge of Shinobi is an absolutely classic. This seems more based on Shinobi 3 which is itself one of the all time great action games although I prefer Revenge.

I was actually playing a lot of the original arcade Shinobi as part of the high score challenge over on the arcade and retro forum and it holds up really well, one of the all time greats. It also helped that I absolutely stomped everyone else's scores and came out on top.

I can't see how 4 will differentiate itself enough from the first 3 (6!) to not feel like yet another similar game. I didn't finish 3 (I think…) because it just felt hollow, like a poor version of 2. I'm all for gun murder mayhem, but I already feel like I've played it…

BL2 was definitely my favourite. I played that one to death. But the actual gameplay of BL3 just felt so much better. It was so smooth, more to do after finishing etc. The main issue BL3 had (outside of the writing/characters) was that you got too many legendaries too easily. No matter how much storage they provided, I had it filled with legendaries.

Wonderlands was godawful. I liked the concept and the framing of the game in the D&D tabletop style, but every area was just a tiny map, waves of the same enemies, and then the classes and how you could combine classes was just boring. Can't even remember if I finished it.

I'm sure I'll sink a ton of hours into BL4 regardless, as I do love that general gameplay loop. I don't see BL4 being hugely different from the other games, though at least there are signs of better traversal mechanics being introduced. I think they know the writing of BL3 was awful too so hopefully they make a better attempt at it this time.

Just checked a playthrough of the game on Youtube. I'm pretty sure I've gotten to the final stage, but can't remember if I've ever beaten the game. The final boss doesn't look all that familiar. I kind of assume I did beat it, as at the time, obviously f*ck all games and nothing to do but try and fully beat the games I had. But like I said, Spider-Man & Man-Bat was always the one that stuck in my head.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 53,248 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Ive never beaten it. Got to the final boss but couldn't figure him out. The levels before him is a maze of doors that teleport to you different areas of the level. In other words, your worst nightmare of BS level design, although calling it design suggests there was a process in developing it. Literally took me two hours to figure out the time I got there (there's a handy respawning health refill you can abuse that drags out the pain).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,569 ✭✭✭✭Penn

Then maybe chances are I never reached the final boss. At the very least the level before that looks familiar. And I'm pretty sure I was using some cheat for infinite shurikens too.

I miss when games had cheats.

Kingdom Come's lockpicking is a crock of shít. Actually rage-dropped the game because of it. Can't even open the tutorial chest.

First one. I saw how well 2 was being received so I'm trying 1, or was trying it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,534 ✭✭✭SuperBowserWorld

I got the first game as it was a few quid, but I'll probably never play it as it's supposed to be very janky on console, 30 FPS and also very unforgiving. But I'm definitely interested in the 2nd game at some stage. They've improved it a lot on the first game. I would not be surprised if they remaster the first game now, since they've a load of staff freed up from the 2nd game and the 2nd game has been received so well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,304 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

Did you change to 'easy lock picking' in the settings? Originally designed for pc, awful with a controller but the new setting makes it more manageable. Saying that, is still really hard until you do it enough to level up and becomes much easier. Like everything else in the game, it's really difficult doing anything until you level up that specific skill.

I'm mad to get 2 so went back to 1 but man, it's not a friendly game at the beginning and actually offputting with how much time you need to put into it I'm tempted to skip and jump to 2 as it looks to be a bit easier going at the start (but still keeps it's toughness apparently).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,346 ✭✭✭✭J. Marston

Yeah, I have it on simplified but it is still torture.

There is a lot to be said for Fallout/Skyrim's basic but satisfying lockpicking.

Yupp they should have stayed with the tried and tested.

Been selling my game collection off recently and I've noticed something. All these years getting **** about my taste in games being weird and having bad taste in games. All those weird games I got **** over are highly sought after now and going for stupid money.

So if you are still on here, go feck yourself, I had great taste in games all along!

In other words buy ace combat 7 and tell yourself it's an investment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,304 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

Ace Combat 7 is currently on sale on PSN for €9.79. About €9.79 more than it's worth mind you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,534 ✭✭✭SuperBowserWorld

I like the game, it's cathartic seeing missiles head off on their elliptic curve to take out an enemy, nice 60 FPS, great music, 1080p looks absolutely fine. And no overwhelming STUFF that games seem to be shoehorned with to pad out the price.

I've only been playing a bit, and I notice there is some wacky side story going on that I don't remember seeing when I tried this game on XBox game pass.

Ace Combat 7. Ther game that's not good enough to deserve a remaster 😜

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,643 ✭✭✭✭Jordan 199

Why don't you start an Ace Combat thread where the only poster in it will be you ;)

Unlike Sony, Bandai Namco have games to release.

I'm always playing a bit of Fallout 76 and I'd to get through 10 locks recently and it's just too basic and even without magic unbreakable lockpicks it's too easy.

Had a problem with KC1 at first in the main tutorial I'd a very hard time getting those nails ( and stealing the armour) , but later I stayed with that tutorial chest when you wake up which locks itself after you walk away from it and I just kept at it earning levels and practicing for a few minutes. Once you've a few levels into it it gets easier and you've gotten the knack for it too. I think it's level 3 and 6 you get stuff, and then it's still hard but not undoable on the normal difficulty ones. You're not getting into the harder ones at the start until you've levelled up a lot.

    Bored Friday night question.

If they stopped making new games, do you think you'd remain a gamer for the rest of your life (commitments notwithstanding)?

Is there enough games out there that interest you (or in the back catalogue) to keep you going...?
