    Ah sweet!

I just ran out of my last trial last week!

    Nice one :)

My current sub had 2 days to run. When I entered the Apple ID I didnt get the 3 months free added on.

I logged out, deleted the app from Xbox, reinstalled it and signed in with another Apple ID I had setup before and got the 3 months.

Xbox elite series 2 Core controller €105 About €30 cheaper than usual for white model only. Maybe if you hang on it'll be cheaper on Microsoft site!

Had the Elite series before and were great until the dreaded stick drift started. This time I'm using my Microsoft points to purchase the 3 year no quibble warranty for €20. No matter what, I'll be sending it for replacement before the warranty is out.

Its on sale for €110 pretty often, Id say youre saving €5 rather than €30. RRP is €123 on Amazon too.

I had no idea MS sold a 3 year warranty. I wouldve bought from them instead of Amazon back in August. FML 👿

FYI at the bottom of the page it says "You may only purchase a Microsoft Protection Plan either from Microsoft or from the same Retailer selling the original device if a Protection Plan is offered by the retailer. Plans must be sold with an eligible device and never as a standalone product"

Id say buying from MS direct is the handiest.

Hmm as regards the cost id been keeping an eye on the ms site for the past 4 months and never seen it drop in price of €129.99 , plus I need one now . Maybe this will change on Monday, however I noticed most other controllers on the MS site have dropped prices last week except the core! We shall see on Monday. It's gone back to €134 now on Amazon! Still €129.99 on MS.

Thanks for the tip on MS Complete, I might just cancel the order and wait. I spoke with ms chat and they confirmed what you said about purchasing from outside ms store.

She wouldn't say if the price would be coming down but...

" Did you know that we have the price promise. Enjoy extended price promise through 31 January 2025. If we drop the price of a physical product, contact us and we'll honour a one-time price adjustment."

Is anyone else having trouble purchasing that 3 year warranty on the controllers with certain controllers on the Microsoft site?

Looking to get this controller but whenever I add the warranty to the cart it says there is an error and I can't purchase them.

Manufacturers own web stores tend to be **** for deals with the odd exception. You linked the controller on Amazon and said it was €30 cheaper than usual (when its been €110 regularly for a while). So wanted to make sure you or any others that see it didn't think it was a special price.

The last time my Elite 2 (from Amazon) broke, An Post wouldn't take it as it had a battery. Amazon said use a courier and they pay some money (IIRC it was a less than the cost of courier). Not sure if that's still the case but something to consider.

MS compete is the real bargain! If you have the controller for 3 years, you should pay a tenner extra and get a custom Core from Designlabs, theyre offering free engraving atm and you can pick the colours of everything.

Given that its gone back to €134 now on Amazon and it's still €129.99 in Microsoft (when most other controllers have been reduced ) then I think €105 is still a bargain price.

Elite controllers are on sale on the German MS site & UK sites. Little Auld Ireland gets fook all as usual.

MS do have a price promise that if the price drops before Jan 31 2025 they will credit the difference back to you. But the catch is you need to monitor for any price drop and then contact them to get the money back.

The Series X is good. I have no idea where is best to buy it but Smyths is a good shout.

I had a series s and switched to a series x. From a visual point of view i do not see any difference between the 2. I'm sure some do.

But the series x has a bigger hdd (twice the size) and a disc drive if you want to play games that way (reason I got it was partly this, let's me grab cheap games in cex).

So decide what's important. If you'll be digital only, strongly consider the series s, although there have been rumours that at some point game devs will be allowed target the series x specs, meaning the series s could see reduced versions of games.

I think the price is pretty standard across stores, so shop around I guess?

What's the best way to get game pass/ultimate these days?

Did it a long time ago but have been told by the kids that it is now expired.

Sorry non Xbox tech savvy here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,242 ✭✭✭sniper_samurai

Same way as before buy 36 months of Core/Gold then 1 month of Ultimate, unfortunately the ratio is 2:1 now instead of 1:1 or the recent 3:2 conversion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,406 ✭✭✭cullenswood

    Thanks very much.

Where is the most cost efficient place to buy Game pass?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,242 ✭✭✭sniper_samurai

CdKeys are €41 for 12 months if you don't want to mess around with a VPN. Using Indian codes, €26 from CDKeys, is cheaper but you will need a paid vpn to activate it. You'll save about €45 going the vpn route if buying the full 36 months before conversion.

    Hi

Just getting around to this now….

India seems to have gone up in price… which works out at about the same price as the EUR

    Euro Price without VPN is

That's the core package which if I remember is a limited set of games too. So beware / double check the different packages available and what you want @cullenswood

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,242 ✭✭✭sniper_samurai

You can still get this and upgrade to Ultimate on a 2:1 conversion ratio. Works out cheaper stacking 3 years of core and converying to Ultimate with 1 month than buying 19 months of Ultimate, about €135 vs €380(direct from MS) without vpn.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,550 ✭✭✭SuperBowserWorld

Oh ok, that's still available. Nice ! Oh hope you get this message @cullenswood and I didn't send you off in the wrong direction.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,242 ✭✭✭sniper_samurai

Yeah, India still stacks up to 36 months afaik. Some of the cheaper regions like Argentina and Turkey can only stack up to 13 months making them a poor match for conversion.

Unfortunately they reduced the ratio again last year with the introduction of Game Pass Standard, from 3:2 to 2:1. Considering this is the second reduction in conversion in 2 years expect it to be reduced again this year in September to 3:1. This will stil be cheaper not by much.

My gpu expires in April I think. Just wondering if it makes more sense to go down the route of stacking core and then adding gpu, or should I just use the rewards points I have accumulated (~100k). Although I had it in my head to just keep accumulating points and when the next-box is out in a couple of years get one for essentially free.

Opinions on best use of points v money?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,626 ✭✭✭DeSelby83

100k points is roughly €100 for talk sake. Current rumour is that the next Xbox is gonna be 2026 and if the PS5 pro is anything to go by then it's going to end pricey so personally I'd keep saving towards that which I plan on doing myself.

Hi. My sons GPU membership has renewed at 12.99 per month. Is the following correct?

Cancel it and wait until it expires, purchase three 12 months memberships on CDKeys etc. Then buy 1 month of GPU to convert it?

On CDKeys, there is Game Pass Core and Xbox Live Gold, which are the same price. Does it matter which I buy as it will be converted either ways?

No Gold was rebranded as Game Pass Core and both will give you the same sub. 3 years of Core plus the 1 month sub of GPU will give you a total of 19 months of Ultimate.
