The general ballot results came out this morning - and lo and behold, I was selected 😀

Can anyone recommend a hotel that's central and convenient for the start, finish and expo?

    Thanks

Also, what do would you want to be flying from here for a Sunday race in Tokyo to get over the worst of the jetlag? Tuesday, Wednesday?

really depends on the person. I went to Australia once and arrived in the late evening so basically straight to bed and hadn’t an issue with jet lag at all. Now I wasn’t running but sometimes depends on when you arrive can help. Arriving early morning and you’re trying to stay awake all day could knock you out for days

Congratulations, I also got in through the ballot. I'm currently watching some YouTube videos for recommendations.

I'll most likely fly Thursday to Thursday.

Congrats folks. Didnt even consider the ballot this year. Must get my head back in the game

Hotel booked now, it was very reasonable. The exchange rate is really in our favour.

Will finalise the flights in the next few days. Everything seems to be around the €1,000 mark. Trying to get a flight that arrives early afternoon and departures early afternoon is proving difficult on the days I'd like to travel.

    Only 6 weeks to go.

Is there anybody else going, from this parish?

Looks like it's just use two.

Training hasn't gone to plan so may be more of a sight seeing run!

How's training going? Have you everything booked?

Haha. Literally sitting on the couch with the wife looking at activities and booking the Italian for the Saturday night. Training going okay. Big mileage week and weekend . Did 10 today and 20 scheduled for Sunday. How about you?

I'm figuring it all out as I go :-) We're staying in Shinjuku, so nice and central for getting around and easy access to the start line. Going a few days early to (hopefully) shake off the jetlag.

    How are the hotel prices?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,028 ✭✭✭Unknownability

Very reasonable. I was initially planning on going on my own, I had a 4 star booked for 8 nights for €600. Now my better half is coming I've had to switch it and 7 nights is coming in at €950ish.

The yen is very good for us at the moment.

just giving this a bump to see if anyone else is heading over this year. 10 days to go 👍. We’re over Tues-Tues. charity bib. The yen is weak as a kitten at the moment too, down 40% over 5 years.

Would love to be going again. Can't believe it's been a year. Enjoy. The weather looks very changeable and mixed over there at the moment.

true, it’s about as predictable as here, so let’s see how it looks closer. The main question appears to be if it’ll be wet or not.

I go regularly, but not to run. The Toyoko Inn is a chain. I stayed 2 nights for 18,000 late January. So, €100. It's room with a bed, and a Japanese style bath. It's a wet room. No closet. Just hung stuff on a hook at the end of the bed. Clean and all that. Japanese breakfast included. I had miso soup and rice, with scrambled eggs and bacon. They had those hideous small sausages, which I skipped. One morning they offered curry, and I was going to get it the next day, but it wasn't on offer!

This was in Atami, but have also used the one in Odawara too, in 2018 or 2019.

If you want a photo of the breakfast on day one, or the bathroom, let me know. Presumably they have pics on the website.
