People on twitter acting like kids aren't respecting her enough and not knowing who she is like she's david gilmour or something

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,004 ✭✭✭✭walshb

the hype and bluster around her years ago (from nobody but us) was ludicrous. And then they tried to get Omero, her brother on the hype train.

I'd forgotten about him, the Irish tabloids were full of talk about her being the next bond girl at one stage.

What was the movie she did, The Time Machine?

Knowledge is learning something, wisdom is learning from it, intelligence thought of it first.

In fairness, Samantha Mumba is among the very few Irish artists that ever "broke America". She reached number 4 on the Billboard Top 200 in the United States, spending 22 weeks on the chart, so she was kind of a big deal back then.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gotta_Tell_You_%28song%29

In the top 50 of songs in America in that year, it would have had a lot of airtime. If you look at the biggest songs by people like Westlife or Girls Aloud they don't even release them in the US, while Samantha Mumba was worldwide. She also had another few hits.

I just feel sad for her that she ended up like this, this should be beneath her. Like if Sinead O' Connor decided to come back to the Eurovision before she passed (a one hit wonder also, though obviously a more iconic one).

Anyway, I think it's weird and stupid that a Norweigan should be representing Ireland. Just get a normal, ordinary ethnic Irish person. And forget about what might succeed in the competition, just what sounds good.

Are dogs allowed to vote?? If so we will probably do well at Eurovision.

I'd rather they used the money is some form of TV entertainment, and if they think that that is Eurovision, then they should spend that money on Eurovision and not suggest that they reason that they don't create a show for Eurovision is down to costs, because it clearly is not due to that.

I just want them to produce/create/commission TV programming, at least we can then criticize wasting money on Eurovision or criticize the use of money on some TV content rather then how they waste money currently.

    ______

In the end they were just greedy, they all knew one another and knew what to expect more money for no return, it was a secure cash flow, but in fairness they looked for what they wanted and fair dues to them for that, and wouldn't you be doing the same!

Just one more thing .... when did they return that car

Sinead O'Connor received a Grammy nomination for The Lion and the Cobra, before her one hit wonder!

In fairness he could hold a tune and did well for a while.

He had a go at qualifying for Eurovision too but wasn't successful.

Beaten by Dustin which can't have been much fun.

He annoys me - I don’t know why but he annoys me - but Dustin getting in certainly annoyed me more

I just had to read up on the real story of Laika 😁

Looks like merch was a thing back then too "Stamps and envelopes picturing Laika were produced, as well as branded cigarettes and matches."

The quality of the songs is irrelevant! It has been a sexuality contest for years now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,497 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

Did you actually watch the show?

The best song and performance won....she is as far as I can see a straight women...so the winner of the Eurosong sexuality contest...is...

There tends to be some non straight people in the performing arts?!? Madness I know! Someone fetch me my pearls to clutch and my smelling salts!

The quality of the songs and the performance are most relevant, watch a Eurovision final the cream rises to the top.

Donal Skehan strikes me as someone who just wants to be on television.

The music didn't work out errm what way can I do to get on telly … I'll be a chef!

Bit like Dermot Bannister going on Blind Date before he found his true calling on a proper cash cow tv show.

He was also beaten by Leona Daly, Marc Roberts and Liam Geddes, he came fifth out of 6, beating only Maja.

Also that was the last time that RTÉ ran a national Eurosong separate to TLLS.

In fairness to Dustin it is was pretty much the same beat as a winning Israeli song, that won a few years later, not that that is much of a complement.

    Flap your wings.

The chap still suffers from PTSD over that fowl play 🙂

Am I the only one who sees a strange unsettling glint in Donal's eyes when he plunges a knife into the seasonal bird on those Christmas 🎄 cooking shows ?

Caller (sobbing): Joe, my beloved dog passed away last week…I just don’t feel it’s right to send a song about a dog who died.

Joe (sighing): My god…Mary, quickly before the break.

Mary: Joe, we have so much musical talent here in Ireland, and I have nothing against Norwegians…

    Joe (interrupting): Back after dese!

And still blaming external factors after all this time - in this case, I think quite unfounded - while you can question the panels’ bonafides from an experience perspective, I found them quite fair overall - they could have been a hell of a lot more critical if they so wished. And it wasn’t the panels fault she didn’t win so not sure why she’s beating them on the head

“Samantha Mumba has criticised the Late Late Show Eurosong panel for being “unnecessarily rude and vile to all the finalists” after competing in Eurosong 2025.”

No doubt a few callers will link the winning song to the Russians and Orwell Road influencing the vote with a few thousand burner phones 🤣.

Mumbas song song wasn't great but the people selected to be on the jury was odd as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 425 ✭✭Banjo Carney

Samantha Mumba shouldn't be in the same sentence as Sinead O'Connor. Sinead was a very talented artist. I don't believe she'd ever have associated herself with the trash the Eurovision has become. It stopped being a song contest a long time ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,004 ✭✭✭✭walshb

Mumba awful salty because the panel thought her song wasn’t up to much. It was woeful, as was her performance. And no way they were in any way rude or vile.

SAMANTHA MUMBA HAS hit out at RTÉ’s Eurosong panel and said that the panel, apart from Bambie Thug, were “unnecessarily rude and vile to all the finalists”.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 23,113 ✭✭✭✭Ash.J.Williams

I can see her point though, any gobshite could have sat on that panel but it's hard work getting up there and performing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,004 ✭✭✭✭walshb

she has no point. Her song and performance were rubbish. The panel were very tame in saying this

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 23,113 ✭✭✭✭Ash.J.Williams

She still got up there, they just sat on their holes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,004 ✭✭✭✭walshb

But that's a separate point. They weren't judging her for "getting up there." She was salty because they didn't at all rate her song/performance, and from what I saw, I didn't think any were rude/vile when saying this about her song and performance, or about the other 5 acts.

Vile is a very strong negative word. Unless I missed something, they weren't remotely close to being vile.

I don’t disagree - but the panel weren’t “vile” - in fact they were quite restrained - had you something like a Britain’s got talent panel you would have heard real honesty - no one forced her to compete in the competition - if the panel weren’t to her liking then fine - but I don’t think she’d have given a fig if she won - it just feels like sour grapes to me

True, but an odd group of people to choose. I am still surprise by the Dancing Judge that he is on DTWS, it really seems "I did this thing once so therefore I am qualified".

I was once in a film with oscar winner Cillian Murphy, and the cinematographer got us mixed up… unfortunately I had to refuse the gig as body double in some of the scenes in Oppenhiemer, I have put on a bit of weight since then… but I did say thank you to them for think of me.
