MOD: I do not want this thread to devolve into a Prendergast/Crowley shitfest. There will be a pretty short leash on commentary that is viewed as deliberately antagonistic. Think before posting.

    Communication was the greatest fatality

    Ireland by 10

Sheehan to score to become the 6n all time leading try scoring forward after Lowe scores with an assist from Finn

Think the game might still be in the balance at 60 but the bench should see ireland home. Interestingly scotland seem to have put some of their starters on the bench to counteract this.

I've a question as a casual rugby watcher. I would not be up to date with talent coming through for Ireland from youth level.

Is the age profile of our squad a bit alarming here? 🤔

Looks like we are facing a cliff edge soon?

    Please move post if OT.

About half the squad for Sunday are the wrong side of 30 (I'm excluding Murray as Craig Casey would probably be in there were he not injured). I've put in the ages on the selection graphic. Biggest issue is probably the front row, Tadg Furlong is 32.

But it's not that bad, good mix of youngsters coming through or already made it.

Not really, thers a steady stream of players coming through, from the Academies, mainly Leinster - Prendergast, McCarthy , Sheahan , Baird, Osbourne . when I grew up ther was a real scarcity of players coming through, and no strength in reserve. I would hope Ireland can get a decent team/squad together for next WC , which we constantly struggle at . expect a win against Scotlnd.

Very disappointed to see Prendergast starting again. The evidence from the England game was for all to see. As soon as Crowley came on, we were a different team, completely dominating. Prendergast may well develop into a great player, but let this happen in a Leinster jersey, or as a replacement no. 10.

That domination had nothing to do with Crowley. Conan and Sheehan came on at 49 min and we were ahead 10 minutes later when Crowley came on.

Mack Hansen isn't present at today's captain's run. Murray Kinsella is speculating that Calvin Nash will now start tomorrow.

Nash in for Hansen. Seems to about to be confirmed too

I'm fine with this. Hansen is a very different and better player, but he's not quite hitting his stride I don't think and Nash has been looking good for Munster. Hopefully Nash improves his work off the ball a bit though.

    Nash in confirmed

Nash is a not a step down , playing very well this year. Excellent in the air, strong strong runner .

Management team must have known Hansen was a doubt so put Ringrose in bench to cicover the wing. If this injury had of been earlier in week Ringrose would be starting in the centre I imagine.

Nash is a concern, good club player but not sure he's a test match animal and Scotland have good strength on the wing, particularly when attacking.

He was at fault for the england try in the last 6N when he was annihilated in a contact he was favourite for and was then mia on the wing where they scored.

Good form this season though so hope he carries it into the internationals.

He got knocked out in the process of going for a big hit to kill the counter and they scored off the next phase (if not it was the following one). Very unlucky.

I think this will be very tight.

Scotland are decent and must be super motivated giving the losing streak, especially playing at home.

    Ireland by a single score

Scotland are a real threat. Anyone thinking we can easily overpower them as we always do should watch their game against SA in the Autumn. They went toe to toe with them so will match us physically. They're faster than us so we absolutely need to be at our best to win this, a repeat of the first 40 against England or any of the Autumn games and we will be well beaten.

I'm very nervous about this game for us tomorrow. Scotland will be highly motivated to beat us at home, doing so would throw the championship wide open and they'd be the only team unbeaten. If we start slowly we could find ourselves in trouble, this Scotland team could rack up the points quickly. I don't want to see us chasing the game after 30 mins, I'd worry if we put ourselves behind early on. Scotland would take huge confidence from that.

We don't need to be forcing anything, just match them up front for the first 50-60 mins and keep ourselves just ahead. Tomorrow will be a day for taking our shots at goal, keep the scoreboard ticking over and every 3pts will sap their confidence. Predergast has a big role to play in that regard, his place kicking will have to be on song. That's how we win this one, get our noses in front and stay there until we unload the bench for the final 20. We will win comfortably if we do that. If our decision making is off and we're not up to the pitch of the game early on it'll be a long afternoon.

Bonus points mean nothing now for us but in defeat. Turning down makeable kicks at goal away from home is now unforgivable. I'll lose my sh*t tomorrow if we try to win the game early by kicking to the corner and end up getting turned over. It's cup rugby from here on out and we need to realise that.

    They lost by 17 points…

They are faster yes, but the Ireland bench is significantly better and it was in the last 20 they completely lost it against SA as well.

We absolutely do not need to be at our best to win this, we need to play at less than 80% to lose it (though that is obviously always possible).

I think a highly motivated Scotland will take it to the wire. Might even pull it off.

Theres no other sport where home advantage is like having a couple of extra players on the field.

Ireland to win comfortably, at least 2 scores.

A a recollection and in the grand tradition of sending grudges to college, Scotland voted against us to host the 2023 RWC. I hope we hammer them today.

As paybacks go, the FFR have lost millions on it and are likely to lose more due to a VAT error. €25 million in total.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,509 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

Hope O'Mahony is there to beat them up for a half and then the much better bench come on to run in a high score. This championship could come right down to the wire.

For me if Ireland don’t bring their A game when in Scotlands 22 we will lose.
look at France yesterday, they threw the game away by their errors.

If we start well we will win comfortably by day 12, but if we start like the England game we could be in Trouble.

Tight for the first 50 and then we'll comfortably pull away. I just think we have too much for Scotland.

    Scotland 10-30 Ireland
