I notice that Virgin Media have an offer at the moment (on switcher.ie)

    When I do the maths, that's just €26.67 a month. Can't beat that (?)

Do they use openeir or siro? I think they've only still got coax in our estate. (in the ground when the estate was built, not coax strung on garden walls)

Just wondering which duct into the house, eir or their own that I'll have to uncover if they don't use SIRO.

Virgin Media use either their own fibre, SIRO or NBI.

So I went ahead and ordered the self install option via bonkers.ie

However, VM are saying they have to send a tech. I explained there's already an active SIRO connection there, but they're still adamant.

Trouble is, it's another 50 euro, and it's not what I signed up for.

Is it not plug and play? I've been with many providers over the years, and VM are the first lot to insist.

I'm guessing that they want to install their own fibre rather than use SIRO. I'd get clarification why they can't use the existing SIRO ONT?

Yeah I think you're right. The VM router that arrived has an optical port. So, either the existing SIRO ain't much use as it only has optical in. Maybe they'll change the SIRO ONT to one with optical out….? It'll be a nuisance when changing providers again, though if the VM router is also the ONT…

And, what was the point of sending it out with a courier if a tech has to come anyway?!

Unless the tech is actually a SIRO rep…?

So it turned out that they ran in their own fibre…
