Guaranteed a semi final spot?...no need to worry then...Now, you wouldn't be setting us up for a fall by any chance?... or dare I say it...hoping?

No i think Kilkenny are trying out lots of players, what about losing against Galway in the league in Feb. Moylan, Mcdonald and a few others are doing fine. We are starting to bring in new players and we just need to find another 2/3 good hurlers. As i always stated we have 5/6 outstanding hurlers, you can include Cian Kenny and Mossy into that now to increase that number. A full Kilkenny team come championship will win a Leinster, i cant see Galway beating them, Galway's aim is surely to make the top 3, Wexford are in a bit of a transition, there might be one sting in them but get them in Croker and we would win.

As i previously stated i have big concerns for Deegan, Richie Reid and Butler, you might get away with one of them in your 15 but not 2 or 3. Anytime we have lost matches in the last 3/4 years these 3 were targeted with great reward.

Interesting to see how Stephen Donnelly goes

Is McDonald injured? Not even on the bench. I would have liked to see Moylan start again but I can appreciate Lyng is probably trying to manage his time. Good to see Murphy start, he deserves that after the last day and also nice to see Molloy and Doyle getting a chance along with Donnelly and Shine.

Peter Mc Donald out is unfortunate, we need to see him get lots of game time.

Ridiculous to see Deegan back at half back, surely we need to be looking at Neary or Lyng or Moylan in that slot to see if they can step up. What dont we know (good and bad) about Deegan at this stage?

Cian Kenny plays most of his best hurling at midfield, ffs leave him there, he's not going to be in HF line when Mullen, TJ and Donnelly are back so leave him where he will almost certainly be playing championship. Tinkering for the sake of tinkering or cynically might ask, shifting him to accomodate Killian Doyle?

I agree, feel like Mcdonald, Molloy or Doyle should all be tried, no issue with that but would it not make sense to try them beside Kenny to form a partnership and see how it works.

Hopefully Donnelly and Shine can have a good day, not easy coming back from injuries and hitting form.

Not sure about Carey centre back he loves to go forward but worth a go I suppose.

Anyone know if Robbie Donnelly is on panel, had heard he was but no sign of him?

I fully expect Cian Kenny to operate as a third midfielder

happy to see lads playing their way onto the team - that competition for places always drives higher standards

There was a period in the recent past where the team had very little change in personnel and that was not a good thing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 662 ✭✭✭Neewollah

Tinkering with centre back again. Thought Blanchfield did pretty well the 1st 2 games for the most part. Couple of things to improve on but nothing drastic. To me Carey on the wing with Blanchfield in the centre is far more balanced for the team. He needs to pick one and back them. Chopping and changing won't help either of the lads

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 351 ✭✭Nedflanders02

With Blanch maybe they're trying others at 6 in case he's injured or suspended and they have to move someone back there, I think come championship he'll still be our 6 but no harm in having a back up if needed. I'd prefer Kenny at midfield too but no harm in playing Molloy and Doyle, Doyle has worked his way onto the UL team so must be hurling well. The one problem I'd have with Kenny at 11 is that he drops very deep at times and allows the opposition 6 to drop back and sweep in front of our full back line, Lee did very well for Galway last week in the first half. I'd like to see Cody at 11 he seems to do better in the space out there but has been poor the last 2 weeks when played in the full forward line.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 461 ✭✭Alonzo Moseley

I get that Eoin Cody can be frustarting at times (and Mullen too) but his stats are terrific. He has been reasonably quite last two days but still scored 1-2 from play and also created 2 of the only 3 clear goal chances I can recall both days.

He scored 3-6 from play in 4 matches last year, more than HOTY Shane O' Donnell (1-10) scored in 7 matches. I'd imagine his average score from play over his career must be close to the best of any current player.

I agree completely, a good centre back needs to be a top class hurler, good striker of a ball left and and right. A big presence etc. Carey is grand on the wing and a great athlete but his hurling is very limited, Gowran operated with Langton at no.6 for most of last year. Carey does not have the hands to be a top class 6 imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,050 ✭✭✭conor05

Wing back suits Carey, he could have had a coupe of goals v Clare last year in the semi final if his eye for goal was a bit sharper, he has the speed like his dad to break through defences.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 313 ✭✭jamesbond2022

That makes for interesting reading if only he could get himself into a game sooner he would be lethal

Always seems to have his man glued to him for 30mins of a game then gets free and explodes into a game

I don’t think the ff line suits him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,066 ✭✭✭kksaints

The problem is that he's too slow to play in the half forward line particularly against teams that like to bomb forward with the wing backs.

sorry now I will not go on with the rubbish you go on with if they not good enough they are not good enough

We could not beat Carlow in a championship match that’s how bad we have gone

We now have to pay good money again to watch Doyle who has never showing he good enough he is only being played because he will get grant as county hurler and lyng and his father are friends

This has gone on for 3 years

1 year played against tipp in the park did not get a puck off the ball

    2 played against Offaly

    3 against Wexford

    All 3 decisions disgraceful

It’s well knowing players have left the panel because off the favouritism showing to Doyle

Where is Cody from Clara one off the top players last year

Where is the army chap from O’Loughlin’s herity I think is his name

The red headed chap from boro gave a great display in under 21 final

    And many more

His grant came before kilkenny under 20 last year what a joke

How is young Moylan left out in front off butler

Deegan terrible last week but still in

We have a manager that hasn’t found a player in 2 years

One person says billy ryan improving he not good enough for the camogie team

People talking as if Leinster final victory is certain Buckley is gone lightening wouldn’t strike 2 and the odds is if we don’t beat Wexford we will be relegated in the league

It’s 10 years since we won and the last 2 all Ireland’s we got the biggest beatings kilkenny ever got

If Kilkenny hurling don’t get in some one that’s knows hurling and what it takes to be successful they will be people starting college that have never seeing kilkenny win all Ireland

I live in the real world not dream world

So instead off spoofing contradict the facts tell me where these people have proved they good enough

    Cian kenny pure class

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 421 ✭✭droppingball

I like Heary and Paul Cody but if you think they are better than John Donnelly it says enough about what your doing on this forum. It would be more in your line to take in what is going on rather than trying to get reactions here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 313 ✭✭jamesbond2022

Your probaly better off saving your money and not going this weekend since the only player you rate on the current team is cian Kenny everyone else is crap

Moylan is left out because he played a full game at cb for dcu Thursday night I presume

Love him or hate him deegan is leader and hard as nails every team needs a p deegan

B Ryan definetly better than j Walsh anyway

Heary from olg gone travelling or injured I think

If it’s timmy Clifford your talking about think he was dropped or opted out

Think p Cody might have turned down the call I might be wrong though

I’d take winning a Leinster final anyway it’s the shortest route to an all Ireland semi and the easiest route to a final

We can’t win Munster so Leinster will have to do for now

You clearly don’t like lyng maybe you d be better following Leinster in the rugby or something this year

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 313 ✭✭jamesbond2022

Maybe he is just missing that blistering pace but I think he d do better further from goal as he wouldn’t be marked as tight

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,673 ✭✭✭me89

Hopefully we win this week so we don't have to read your crap

Dublin, with their reigning AI club champs, must have disappeared off the map.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 109 ✭✭The_Tank

On the CB change I think this makes a lot of sense. Blanch has a lot of good attributes but he turns slow (and z i’m not just basing that on the league but also championship last year when I felt he could have done better in that aspect) and sometimes you need to sacrifice a hurling CB for someone who is just raw and hard to get around (which I hope Carey is). I think this makes sense as an experiment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,124 ✭✭✭Charlie69

Agree with you, I like Carey at centre back, don’t get me wrong I think Blanchfield can work there but you don’t necessarily have to be a swashbuckling hurler to be a good number six you just need to know how to play the position.

Carey very good there with the club in the past but of course at a very different level. Definitely worth a try for sure.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 570 ✭✭✭eastie17

so will this team beat Wexford? What do people think?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 109 ✭✭The_Tank

I think I read somewhere that O’Briens Dad is involved in S&C so he might just have an advantage that might not be as pronounced at senior level. More interesting I thought, particularly when compared with the progress of our u20 winning team was the performance of the corner forward (o Donovan?) who although lighter in frame believe scalped 3 points in the cauldron in cork

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 858 ✭✭✭lim4ev

I told ye ages ago paddy o Donovan could be one to watch out for Limerick. Hopefully he's beginning to find his feet at this level

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 313 ✭✭jamesbond2022

O Briens father is Adrian and was involved in the s &c side of things with the Limerick hurlers and footballers and I think maybe the Clare hurlers aswell at some stage

Only moylan drennan and macdonald have got any real game time for the seniors off that u20 team aswell as Tallis and they’ve only really broke through this year

Rowe doyle Clifford and a few others got the odd run

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 140 ✭✭neverbet

Some here have already anointed our new manager for'26, while others have us guaranteed an All Ireland semi final spot. Back in the real world we should win this evening but the Leinster championship match later in the year, wouldn't be so sure. Wexford Park the past decade has been an unhappy hunting ground for us. Like the team picked and fingers crossed that Doyle, Donnelly and Shine show meaninful promise. We badly need them to.

Ah hear think we have enough of your negativity on this board. Bad enough with poor grammar but "red head from Boro" and "Herity from Oloughlins " just confirms your a complete spoofer when you can't name the players. Constantly running down players/management, enoughs enough now "forachange"

I'm beginning to think the poster just wants to get a good rise of people on here when hurling knowledge is really so poor. A true supporter wouldn't run everyone down like that from their own county. Only ever comes on after Kilkenny lose anyhow so if we win this evening won't here for a while from him.
