Surely they need to be vocal in pointing out what’s wrong with the decisions and alternative options available.

Whether you like it or not its not on how weak and exposed we are here and its starting to get called out, we use our geographical location as an excuse and reason to not look after ourselves, a country that can't look after themselves militarily cannot be considered nuetral, we can claim it only because of our location, we're surrounded by non hostile countries that we are alligned to politically, ethically so were lucky, its also not about winning if someone is attacking us its about seeing it coming, making it difficult and using defense as a deterrent, if we had radar, a navy and maybe some fighter jets we could use them to deter hostile entities instead of having the Brits do it all for us while we sit on our hands.

We're part of the EU, we've benefitted greatly because of it and we should play a part in its defense, nobody is expecting us to be a super power, but we should contribute, instead we've used our favourable geographical position to freeload.

That makes Trump the head of the party, he was the nominee for President and look at how he nuked the border deal even though Republicans in Committee were on board with it.

Bidens room for maneuver was constrained by Congress and what was politically possible eg the Democrats being outflanked by more pro Israel Republicans in the election.

And thats what happened... instead of a Democratic President favouring two state solution there is now Trump openly advocating ethnic cleansing of Gaza.

You are supporting ethnic cleansing in act as you defend Trump and instead of criticising what Trump is advocating engage in whataboutery. If you dont appreciate being challenged for supporting ethnic cleansing that is entirely the result of the content of your posts and what they say and do not say.

Instead of unconvincing attempts to play the victim, you could demonstrate your opposition to ethnic cleansing by acknowledging thats what Trump proposed and criticising it on that basis.

Sports competitions and their internal rules are normally not covered by national law, so one would very much question the legality of that.

I could hold an egg and spoon race next week and I don't need to consult the laws of the land or the Irish Constitution before I decide who can compete.

Yeah the devil is in the detail, it's only withholding federal funding rather than a ban. I do wonder what the Olympics will think about him banning trans athletes from entering the country for the Olympics though.

I could list twenty others that are more important, generally speaking.

But you see, the last part of your statement belies your true investment in this action by trump.

You have an issue with trans people and you want the most powerful man in the world to take a swipe at them.

Maybe we are getting closer to seeing the nonsensical “you can legally change your gender from male / female” policies changed as well. That will be a fine day when this tiny group of people finally have to just accept that they can go around and call themselves whatever they want but they shouldn’t have laws brought in forcing their delusions on the rest of us.

I doubt it would take tens of thousands of American soldiers. Gaza is tiny, it's less than half the size of county louth. It's not Afghanistan.

I'm not defending Biden or the Democrats, I have made my displeasure known on the relevant thread. I just don't believe Biden could have ended or stopped Israel killing 10's of thousands with a simple penstroke.

Do you have any clue, whatsoever, about how much a modern military would cost? Even on a minimal level? Do you know how much a modern military fighter jet aircraft costs? Just one. Can you understand how much it would cost to build a single squadron of modern fighter jets? Can you understand how much it would cost to train the personnel to, not only crew those aircraft, but to service them too?

And that's just a single squadron (12 to 24 aircraft) of planes. Something that could be wiped out in a single engagement.

Then we'll have to consider our naval requirements, which is a whole other level of expenditure and something that would be of utmost importance because we're an island nation. And then there's amour to consider too.

And on top of that, is the most important level of military unit, manpower in a standing army.

All of that has to be paid for.

How much would YOU be willing to have YOUR taxes raised in order to build a viable (THAT'S VIABLE) military force that could meet any serious force who'd be willing to attack us in a serious manner? Because that is what's going to be the essential arithmetic.

It's all well and good to sit there and spout big Billy bollocks nonsense about how we should have this, that and the other. But financial reality will soon get in the way of that fantasy.

Ah yes, trans people are the real issue. Not the fact the president of the US just called for some ethnic cleansing…. The posters most concerned about woke seem to only care about it which isn't a great look tbh.
