This goes back to that long post I put up a few pages back. In his mind, there has to be a winner and a loser for every deal or negotiation, and I mean for everything. When you sprinkle on some ego and a soft mind, it is a recipe for him saying stupid things but firmly believing that he is right.

you realise that's exactly what happened in Germany and eastern europe after World War 2 as decided by the Allies - US, UK etc.

sometimes changes are needed after a war to settle the peace

I didn’t think impeachment attempts would commence quite so soon - I would doubt it will gain much traction at this early stage

    https://thehill.com/homenews/house/5128061-al-green-donald-trump-impeachment-gaza/amp/

Texas Democratic Rep. Al Green said Wednesday he plans to bring articles of impeachment against President Trump after he suggested the U.S. should take over Gaza.

At the end of the day, if a country reelects a man who touted a grand and baseless conspiracy about the election he previously lost and incited a portion of his followers to attack the US Capitol based on this lie, that country absolutely deserves him and whatever policies he decides to enact.. The rest of the western world doesn't necessarily deserve him but the US does. The rest of the western world can just watch US democracy crumble in real time.

Even if you say that the rest of the US who didn't vote for him don't deserve him, not enough of them actually got out to vote. If you say that there was gerrymandering or voter purging or voter intimidation or various other forms of political skullduggery, there are ways to combat these tactics. It's not like it wasn't known that Trump and his minions were cooking up various strategies and plans. Steve Bannon was well known to be toting his 'precinct strategy', for example, whereby MAGA would infiltrate every level of the US electoral system. The determination was there on the MAGA side. Not so much on the other.

Trump will continue to consolidate power while the Democrats continue to look on with impotent anger. Dictators work on a basis of emergency. 'There is an emergency in this country and so extraordinary powers must be vested in me in order to fix it'. Trump has already declared two. One on energy and one at the US southern border, so it's obviously the kind of language he's attracted to and it's not surprising.

If the Democrats are to have any hope of turning the tide, they're going to have to become as determined and radical as MAGA has been. 'They go low, we go high' has NOT worked. It has been a failure. The kind of relatively balanced political atmosphere that we can remember from the 90s and 2000s is not coming back, though it feels like there is a forlorn hope among Democratic heads that it will. History will not remember them well.

Israel follows US in pulling out of UN human rights council

Israel is ending its cooperation with the UN’s human rights council (UNHRC), foreign minister Gideon Sa’ar announced, a day after Donald Trump signed an executive order ending the US’s participation in the UNHRC.

Israel “welcomes” Trump’s decision not to participate in the UNHRC, Sa’ar said, adding:

The UNHRC has traditionally protected human rights abusers by allowing them to hide from scrutiny, and instead obsessively demonizes the one democracy in the Middle East - Israel. This body has focused on attacking a democratic country and propagating antisemitism, instead of promoting human rights.

    This is fine.

If he honestly thinks this is a seriously workable proposal then he has lost touch with reality. Gazans won't go willingly and Hamas certainly won't not to mention what Iran would start doing. It would take tens of thousands of American soldiers many of whom would not come home. His base that voted him in are vehemently against getting involved in another messy Middle Eastern conflict that would probably go on for many years. He has amassed a lot of power, but even with all 3 branches of government I don't think he could this. It just doesn't make an ounce of sense as a serious plan, if he wants to develop beach front property with his son in law there are much easier ways to do that.

I don't know what his plan is here, or if there even is one. The only thing I can think of is that it's just a big distraction while Musk and Trumps other billionaire friends dismantle the federal government and find new ways to make themselves even richer and more powerful.

Standing up to the U.S.? The goons in Leinster House only stand up for themselves and their pockets, will get in bed with anyone for power, even criminals.

They will be all off on their jollies to the states for Paddy’s Day and continue to turn a blind eye to Irelands neutrality whilst American troops are filling up with free pints fuel and weapons on Irish soil.

I wish more politicians had the guts to speak out about the terrorist apartheid nation that is Israel. MichaelD is ruffling alot of feathers though, which may backfire on Ireland due to the huge influence the Zionists have.

That interview above with Dr Doctorov, the first comment is very accurate

"Forget about Russia, the real threat to America is Israel and the Israel Lobby." - Julian Assange

Even Bernie Sanders said so many politicians there are afraid to speak out as the Israel Lobby will fund their opponents in the next election if they do so.

It would be nice to see a US president finally stand up to them but unfortunately thats not going to happen anytime soon.

A large part of the Israel Lobby is the evangelical Christians bloc who it's damn hard to win elections without.

Interesting press conference happening right now. Executive orders being signed banning trans athletes from competing in women's sports.

The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God.

It's absolutely not the best route. He must be put in his place. His pronouncements yesterday have emboldened right wing Isrealis and enraged Palestinians meaning an end to the ceasefire. Ben Givr and the other scum in that cabinet will now return to bombing not only Gaza but also the west bank. Every Muslim in the region will retaliate as they know there's no chance of peace. Words have consequences.

The EU should have come out and blatantly said that this solution will never happen and they will not allow it. They also need to back away from the Nazis of Israel and cut all ties, both economically and especially militarily. Not a single bullet produced inside the EU should ever enter Israel again.

And hard to reason with, given that many of them subscribe to what amounts to a doomsday cult that require Isreal to exist for their Armageddon prophecies to play out.

This nonsense amplified is what gets the likes of Donnie and his gouls in power.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,768 ✭✭✭threeball

He doesn't have the brains to create distractions. Making excuses for him only emboldens him. He pushed this plan out a week ago and it got not push back so he got licence to come out with the bile he did yesterday.

You'll spend 4yrs saying, maybe it's a bluff or maybe it's only a negotiation tactic. The reality is, without pushback he'll do everything he wants.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 173 ✭✭Bocadilloo

Let me rephrase. I find Trumps executive orders both interesting and long overdue. Am really excited about these orders coming in. A victory for common sense in a world which has lost the plot.

The outrage is just a bonus...

Musk was out criticising a 40hr work week today. Saying people are lazy. They're putting in the grounds to erode workers rights, push up hrs, reduce pay and make American goods competitive by employing worse than Chinese working conditions. The Yanks really fcuked up this time. Let's see if they have the balls to recognise it and challenge him.

He's getting through a lot. When is the last time you saw the Democrats implementing a change agenda with such vigour?

Are senior Democrats making plenty of noise in the US criticising all these decisions?

So it's just him picking on an easy target. I fail to see what's interesting about bog standard bullying.

I see Chuck Schumer being wheeled out a lot but it's the same old Democrats, toothless. They need to stop being so reasonable and nice and take a leaf out of the Reublican playbook and how they go on the attack. The Democrats are too timid.

Another "you know, actually ethnic cleansing had its good sides" genocidal pro Israel poster.🤢 Let's make a desert, and call it peace.

I think Stalin's regime was the only one of the WW2 allies big into redrawing borders, trucking millions of people about Europe in cattle cars to tidy up the maps etc.

Normal (non wannabe Nazi) people consider all that stuff quite bad, now we have the POTUS talking about it as an option/solution.

I don't know what this world is coming to tbh. Even if he never does anything to implement such plans (quite possible with Trump), it's awful and the dinner gong is rung yet again for all the other beasts, who will follow through.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 679 ✭✭✭engineerws

Trump was the former president and then the Republican nomination for president not the head of the Republican party.

Biden had the power to stop the genocide at the stroke of a pen especially as a one term president but chose to keep funding and arming the Israeli's.

I don't support ethnic cleansing and would appreciate if you didn't put such slurs on me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,399 ✭✭✭Wolf359f

Biden was legally required by Congress to dispense the aid that Congress approved to Israel. He had some veto power on line items, but the notion he could stop sending it with a stroke of a pen is incorrect.

The same way trump signing XO's to withhold welfare payments, which Congress had already approved was met with a federal judge putting a halt to it.

He’s energised by destructing things - that takes little effort - yes it “looks” impressive - but what will be the legacy of those exec orders etc in the weeks and months to come? Some impacts may be more visible quickly than others - but I sense a whole heap of disarray for many Americans soon - it takes a lot more energy to create than it does to destroy. What he’s doing is “easy”.

Do you realize the difference between historic events, and current affairs?

It's ludicrous to equate Higgins' mindset or ideology with that if Trump. Nonsense. Deflecting Nonsense.
