I had to look that up, all 3 scored in fact

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,298 ✭✭✭randd1

I'm pretty sure Jake Morris came on and scored a point in 2019. I think Kehoe got some minutes as well.

I'm not sure what the story is either, but I think Tipperary are the only county that has a player that has won minor, U20/U21 and senior medals still playing for them. I know Noel McGrath, Jake Morris and Mark Kehoe have the three, and there might be one or two others as well. Whatever way you look at it, it's a fair achievement.

I don't think there's too many lads on our panel with an AI medal full stop, bar a few from the 2014 minor or 2022 U20 wins, TJ and Scruff being the exceptions there of course.

In fact, in terms of playing personnel with an inter-county AI medal of some description in their pockets, I'd reckon we're behind Tipp, Limerick, Clare, Cork and Galway. Not sure how many of the Waterford 2016 panel are still there, but I wouldn't be surprised if they're ahead of us too.

What we can do to change that narrative, I'd love to know.

Wouldn't rule out Clare from possible relegation talk either. Don't think they have a very deep talent pool and may not be fussed about the league; they are double-champs and may be looking forward to the c'ship already. Lose in Salthill on Saturday night and they'll be playing catch-up, especially with their Munster rivals, including an improving-Tipp, to play yet

We had a few desperate outings under 21 for a few years, getting hammered v Wexford and losing to teams like Westmeath in championship. Id much rather see the now u20 succeed rather than the minors.

when is the last time we beat Wexford in Wexford it could be ten years and we still expect to beat them on Saturday night? We have 100,000 people in county KK and all we could get in the park was 5,000 from as somebody said “A hurling mad county”.

well Village I wouldn’t say no to winning either or both championships.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 136 ✭✭forchange

and you can add mossy to that come hard ground fast ball mossy has showing he has not got it

It’s not the first time he has started with all guns blazing remember down in Walsh park

It’s time people started waking up to the fact we are in the same bracket as Galway Dublin Carlow Waterford I would say Wexford but they have showed in the past few years they better than use

Serious kk contingent playing in fitzgibbon game now, it's on YouTube now. Dcu have Ivan bolger, Padraig lennon, Padraig moylan, Langton, Billy reid, James Carroll and Cathal Beirne playing while Jamie Ryan playing for Mary I.

Dcu 4 up at half time.

😂😂😂😂😂😂 the same Wexford that since being beaten in 4 Leinster finals in a row 2005 - 2008 , and have only contested two Leinster finals since , winning one of them?? Let’s put it another way, since 1998 Wexford have won 2 Leinster finals , Kilkenny have won 21. Yeah we are firmly in wexfords shade.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 136 ✭✭forchange

4 all Ireland semie finals taking off

    I know what it takes

Yes I agree Donnely great club player marvellous attitude just had not got it when game speeds up

Somebody says billy ryan should start next day

    For what

As you say here I go again sure facts are facts I was in Waterford a few years back when mossy scored 6/7 pints

Mossy is as fit as he can be and when championship comes and players at there peek he just has not got it no matter how much you want him to have it

I told you paddy Deegan to slow now people agreeing

People were saying we were slow finishing sure look at the subs we brought on against Clare

Good win, would have been the underdogs. Don't know too much about Bolger but looks tenacious. Langton has all the hurling, just pace a concern. Beirne is a little raw but he has plenty of pace, could offer Kilkenmy something but turned down the call. Good to see a nice few Kilkenny lads involved.

Who was no.6 for DCU? Captain of the team and from Kilkenny

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,369 ✭✭✭JJs Left Hand

Pádraig Moylan. Playing a bit of league at the minute

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 140 ✭✭neverbet

Great win for them all the KK lads did well, I thought Paddy Langton, Billy Reid and Cahal Beirne stood out. Shane "Bull" O'Brien was the outstanding player on the field. Some prospect for Limerick and the centre back Quilty likewise. Great entertainment.

Who’s your favourite kk hurler at the moment who would you rate highest ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 421 ✭✭droppingball

Billy Reid has pace, size and plenty of hurling as well, modern style half back, worth a look also.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,250 ✭✭✭Billy Ocean

2018 league semi final, last championship win was 2011, 3 championship meetings since in 2017, 19 and 23.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 136 ✭✭forchange

billy ryan just not good enough 1-2 after 6 years

Donnely unbelievable man gives it everything great against weaker teams when it speeds up just has not got the pace

Paddy Deegan absolutely gives everything can’t find his man to slow when it matters

Luke Hogan just not good enough

Kerry man had no score from play in the county semie final and final

I told you butler struggling for last year now people agreeing

Lyng not one player brought in in 2 years

Bringing Doyle in has the panel questioning his ability as manager the amount off players that have left the panel over this

People need to wake up kilkenny hurling never being as poor

Facts we could not beat Wexford they beat use 11 times in Rowe

Carlow very unlucky not to beat use in the championship

Galway come to nowlan park and beat use after being destroyed by tipp

Very lucky to beat Clare b team only 3 off all Ireland team we missing 2 Mullins and Tj

I call it as it is not as I hope it would be

The most important thing now is we need a coach maybe look in Carlow direction to the person who should have got the job in the first place only the mooncoin man spoke

And this thing that we won Leinster well how sad

It’s about all Ireland finals and we are so far away from winning one it wouldn’t be long now till people will be going into secondary school and will not have seeing kilkenny win all Ireland never being heard off

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 313 ✭✭jamesbond2022

The saddest thing here is it would kill you to say anything positive about kk hurling

While you say you call it as you see it that’s great

But any proper fan of kk hurling would nt have such a low opinion of so many players

There’s never any balance to what you spout on here never a oh he’s one to watch out for or that lad had a good game

As another poster said it’s a fairly miserable way to carrying on

Hopefully you can take some joy out of watching kk play this year

It would make you question though if Tom Mulally would be the man to replace Lyng at the end of this year?

I’m not saying Lyng can’t deliver an All Ireland this year but Mullally has a very very impressive CV.

National & provincial titles with Naas and MLR aswel as great results with Clara, Carlow and coaching with Wexford.

Great to see such a big contingent of KK players doing well with DCU, Denis Walsh and Ted Dunne were on the bench also. I think all of the DCU players that played last night were from Leinster counties which is good also, hopefully they keep doing well. I see someone else say Cathal Beirne turned down a call up which is disappointing as I think there is lots of potential in him.

Kilkenny will be in an All Ireland semi final in July, no other county can guarantee that. Kilkenny will beat that Galway team by 5/6 points in championship with a full contingent, one really good performance away from an All Ireland Final. I do think Cork and Clare are better than us but they are flaky enough outfits and Kilkenny would have a great chance of beating them in knock out, Limerick i am not so sure. We just need to find 2/3 more hurlers and we will be very good. I said it before we are weak with Deegan, Richie Reid and Butler playing, teams target these 3 and usually get plenty of profit.

Them 2 Offaly midfielders for DCU were some operators at midfield. Are they u 20 again ?

The Mooncoin man spoke?? I don't think in fairness to the county board(with all their faults) they would turn away from Mullally just because 1 man wanted to. There must be more to why he's not been asked before.

The one thing I admire is his commitment to a group. From what I have heard( I stand to be corrected) he was with the Rangers for 7, if not 8 years in a row. He's been involved with Carlow hurling for around 20 years in total from MLR, U20 and now the Senior set up, this being his 5th year over them and seem to be improving all the time.

A lot of coaching and managerial experience built up between the above mentioned plus Clara, Naas, Glenmore, Shels ( 1 title in WX) and that adds up to a hell of a lot more success than anyone involved in KK setups from Seior all the way down…..or am I missing something or someone?

I don't think KK are too far off but definitely are way too slow in blooding players and building up their experience over a couple of league / cship campaigns.

As regards players, I've huge time for Mossy, unbelievable attitude. A lot more reliable than some other injury prone "stars" and is a great example to the likes of Billy Drennan on the kind of workrate that's required .. I would have written off Billy Ryan a couple of years ago but he has changed my mind with his improvement over the last 12/18 months and even more to improve. Blanch def has to start at 6 and give him time to grow into it. He will get huge tests especially when teams start running at him but he's def got what it takes.

Looking forward to the year ahead.

As bad and all as Wexford have been so far in the league albeit with a very young team out, they are going to bring a huge crowd to Wexford Park Saturday evening and the Wexford players all lift it by 50% as soon as they see the black and amber Jersies.

    Should be a good match.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,277 ✭✭✭Marrooned

Wexford have beaten us loads in the last ten years not alone that but there underage teams have also beaten us loads, it’s time to stop the rot and reverse the trend. I thought the team might be out tonight. Anyway I’ll see you all in Wexford park won’t I ?

The quote function is very simple, please use it rather than totally misrepresenting what a poster said.

"I’d need to verify this properly, but AFAIK not a single AI minor medal winner in the last 12 years has won a senior AI medal, starting. Jake Morris and Mark Kehoe (minor winners 2016) have senior medals as playing subs from 2019"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 461 ✭✭Alonzo Moseley

O' Brien undoubtedly the best player on the field last night.

I saw him last year for the first time since 2022 and couldn't believe the scale of his physical development in less than 2 years.

What Limerick are doing 18-21 y/o development is still miles ahead of the pack and should mean they will continue winning senior AIs.

that clarifies matters…though it should read ‘Jake Morris, M Kehoe & Ger Browne have senior medals…’
