Nope- the Dems fell for the bait - they went into defence mode- this allowed Trump to develop his “this is what I’m going to deliver” speeches - immigration, security the economy - they sounded impressive when compared to the moaning Harris went on with -the Dems went down into rabbit holes and the weeds defending the “right” and the “just”- sounded wonderful but the American people were more concerned about the economy and jobs and their future - it’s the economy stupid still holds -regardless of the millions spent on millionaire actors and celebrities trying to convince them otherwise - and that includes jobs which means immigration becomes an issue.

Had Harris concentrated on distancing herself from an ever increasingly frail Biden and stood on her own two feet, she might be president today - anyway, we are where we are.

I hope the Donald doesn’t see this 😋

I understand that it is funny, but the Democrats must stop treating this as a joke. This should be taken seriously and the Dems should be out every day hammering Trump and Musk and the rest of them over the serious issues that are being brought up.

The agreement to reduce the volume of weapons being brought into Mexico sounds great.

I imagine this was not possible under Biden because of Republican obstructionism (just a guess as I don't follow that closely)

Mind you Mexico has always being lawless as I recall from my visit in the 70s where there were armed military on the trains going through "rebel" territory.

I hope this damages the cartlels -and that we and the Yanks would stop buying from them on the first place.

The problem is that Trump knows absolutely nothing about economics.

A trade deficit is not per se something bad. It happens because the US Americans are buying more than they can produce in their own country and that there is not enough investment in the US or too much spending on foreign products.

The general rule is: Savings minus investment always is equal to exports minus imports. So in order for the US to reduce the trade deficit the US Americans either need to save more or invest less.

It has absolutely nothing to do that foreingn countries are having unfair business practices or Canada and Mexico are taking the US for a ride.

Furthermore, tariffs often lead to more foreign investment in the US, often pushing the US dollar up, making US products overseas in general more expensive and less attractive. This would also not solve the trade deficit.

No matter how I look at it, Mr. Trump you're clearly wrong.

The Democrats tried to pull the wool over peoples eyes for 4 years about Biden.

They lied about his physical and mental acuity and concealed it. Sharp as a tack.

They now are foaming at the mouth and ludicrously claiming Musk is supposedly running the country.

Who was actually running the country for the last 4 years is the more important question.

Sure ignore the fact a foreign national has taken over the Treasury department. As per normal, I suspect your posts won't age well tbh, they never do. Similar to when you claimed Trump wasn't a vindictive man, strange silence now that he's going after all his enemies.

More important today that whatever the f Trump is getting up to? Surely you're not serious. What, exactly, is Musk doing? Why is he sending junior devs to download Social Security data?

I mean who wouldn’t want less immigrants less drugs and less guns- as you say it sounds great - it will take some time to see the results and for me, it’s only the results that matter. Unfortunately what Trump will likely do is manipulate figures to speed up the illusion of success - then go play golf - I genuinely hope these 3 situations legitimately improve and in fairness I would genuinely say well done Trump - I just can’t help but think he’ll fck it up somehow

My posts never age well, thats hilarious.

Remind me again who won the election ?

When is Trump going to jail ?

Who was right about the polls ?

Who was right about Trump doing well with black voters and hispanics ?

The conspiracy theories about Biden not running again, who was proven right ?

Who said Harris was a good candidate ?

The same people that were wrong about almost everything in the past are still pontificating as if they are Nostradamus.

Id be extremely embarrassed if I had been proven wrong time and time again.

The point remains, the people who ran the country under Biden weren’t visible -because Biden certainly wasn’t running the country - at least this chap is visible - that’s progress in my book.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,560 ✭✭✭eightieschewbaccy

I'm not sure if I'd classify Trump as progress in any sense. In terms of Musk's actions in multiple government departments, I'd classify that as deeply concerning and dangerous.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,046 ✭✭✭✭Leroy42

That is brilliant. You make up a conspiracy theory and then use the lacl of any evidence of that theory as proof that things are now better.

I’m sure it will have many intended and unintended consequences - just like any other appointment. Considering some of the USAID projects are daft as a brush, and a complete waste of American tax dollars to Americans, I’d say he’s made a great start.

Why is everything a “conspiracy” theory to those defending the idiotic Democrat parties actions over the past few years? Just laughable at this stage and really doesn’t merit a response - if you want to believe Biden was fully in control of his faculties no less the country over the last 2 years even though his own party have said the contrary, then really I can’t be of assistance to you.

A random thought. Doesn't the system mean that no Dem has an actual national voice/platform?

In the British system we knew for the last 4 years that Starmer would be the Labour selection for PM. Because of this he had high profile speaking rights in Parliament, what he said in interviews mattered and he was the obvious pick for 'the Sunday round' shows. By extension we knew the prospective Cabinet roles for Cooper/Rayner/Lammy/Reeves and therefore they were the go-to for a discussion soundbite in their area of expertise.

Compare the American system. Which Democrat hammering Musk/Trump as you suggest would actually be noticed? We don't know at this time whether the next Dem candidate is a current Senator, current Governor, big-city Mayor. In theory he/she may not even be a politician at the moment. So Pete Buttigieg or Josh Shapiro or one of the Dem house leaders could say something devastatingly clever but in truth few will notice, because no-one knows who we are supposed to pay attention to.

Someone in another thread brought this up that the Dems are silent.

DJT has been president for 2 weeks. It feels like longer because every time you turn on the news there is another thing that he has done.

The presidential election was only in November. The dems are still licking their wounds, but with the Republicans controlling the House and Senate, there's not a whole lot they can do right now.

RFK Jr the famous anti-vaxxer will now be running Americas health service in large part to Musk threatening any Republicans who vote against Kennedy that he’ll fund their opponents campaigns in the next primary elections.

It’s probably way to early in his term for “outrage” - some of the posts on here are just laughable - Trump will do what he promised he’ll do - dozens of election pledges that he’s simply implementing now - there’s no surprise here - I’m more interested in the impacts of his decisions today - but those impacts will take time to crystallise .

I’d fcking love if drug importations went down and immigration went down - that would be awesome for Americans - and who couldn’t but praise those results

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,920 ✭✭✭✭Frank Bullitt

No, that is not the more important question. Maybe to you it is, but no one in America cares about Biden anymore, he isn’t the president anymore.

Still no evidence of Biden being anything other than old, and it’s conspiracy nonsense to suggest he was being handled in anyway.

He was too old certainly for another term but so is Trump.

The vast bulk of USAID's funding seems to go on worthy causes. It's probably a much, much smaller amount that gets wasted - no excuse whatsoever to shut the entire agency down.

Putting this out here for the upcoming draught in California which is 100% caused by Trump thinking he actually has a clue or can do anything…

The US Army Corps of Engineers opened two dams on Friday in Central California and let roughly 2.2 billion gallons of water flow out of reservoirs, after President Donald Trump ordered the release with the misguided intent to send water to fire-ravaged Southern California. There are two major problems, water experts said: The newly released water will not flow to Los Angeles, and it is being wasted by being released during the wet winter season. “They were holding extra water in those reservoirs because of the risk that it would be a dry summer,” said Heather Cooley, director of research for California water policy organization the Pacific Institute. “This puts agriculture at risk of insufficient water during the summer months.”

Irs a theory until such time as you have evidence.

Was he old? Infirm? Suffering from mental decline? Yes, yes and yes.

Did he hand over the running of the country to shadowy unknown figures? No. Nobody has provided one ounce of evidence.

But then that isn’t really the issue. Yiu said yourself you don't mind other people running everthing onve you think you know who it is.

Its obvious that Musk is just the front man. There are clearly unknown figures running everything because its clearly not Trump.

See. Its easy to simply make stuff up

What I can't get over is how a bunch of spotty teenagers you wouldn't let in to your garden shed, walked in to the treasury and gained access to highly confidential information and everyone just let them.

If it was here they'd get a kick in the hole and told to be on their way. In the US, they rollover and have their bellies tickled.

Biden is gone-this is a Trump thread - I’m sticking to the future now not the past.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,535 ✭✭✭techdiver

I actually think it's a great tactic. Trump is an immature man child. If the dems keep pushing the narrative that he isn't running the show he'll lash out and inevitably fall out with Musk et al. There's only room for one fascist dictator wannabe in Trumps eyes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,274 ✭✭✭✭Strazdas

For sure, but there is no proof at all of systemic waste (or even corruption) at the agency. Do an audit of any major overseas aid agency and you would probably find examples of wastage and money being misspent here and there.

100% agree. So instead of brushing past the very clear and serious issues with Musk by saying how its is at least better than not knowing who was running the show under Biden I'm glad we can get back to the real current issue.

So have you still no issues wirh Trump handing all this control to a person that helped bankroll his campaign?
