I'd argue he's still a major loss to the team. His ability to bring the ball forward has been key in the last few weeks. I thought he'd been looking a bit better.

I can see the arguments to improve on him, but he was still the best option we had.

Unless arsenal were hiding heaven for contract reasons I'd be weary of throwing him in. Then it's Shaw?

Talk that Martinez has a double rupture to both his MCL and ACL. If true he's done unfortunately.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

Nice that he got a couple of crackers before it all ended. Was a decent player but always felt he was vunerble defensively, excellent at playing the ball forward though.

He's the best ball player in that defense alright and came up with some great assists and goals lately. However, he's just so unreliable to stay fit that it doesn't really matter. Same with Mount, tailor made for this system but is another crock.

I also think Martinez was a bit of a weak link in defense this season. He has definitely lost some pace and he was never the quickest to begin with.

I genuinely feel bad for the guy as he comes across as a great character but he's a very long road ahead of him if the double rupture rumours are true.

Poor by INEOS I have to say, crying out for a forward, they must be hoping Dorgu is magic and unlocks the whole team 🙄

Strap is boys its gonna be rough.

Disappointed nobody has been brought in to support the forward line but it is what it is. Amorims reign won't be defined by what happens between now and June. If at the end of the summer window the squad hasn't been massively altered/enhanced then I'll be the second( Mitch will always be first, jk) to complain about INEOS and their recruitment

Weren't you adamant yesterday that somebody would be signed today?

And I'm sure you were confident about that because the team so clearly, obviously, absolutely needs some additions as soon as possible, so an incoming transfer should have been a given.

Why wouldn't INEOS take criticism for not doing what is so obviously needed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,208 ✭✭✭thegreengoblin

It would certainly have come across as fairly desperate stuff if we had signed Tel, as that would go against the supposed INEOS way of doing things i.e. long-term strategy, etc. But you would have to worry about where the goals are going to come from here on in.

It's 2027 with the option of an extra year? That's what was reported from the time anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,176 ✭✭✭NITRO95

I was and I know this is unusual for someone on the Internet but I'll hold my hands up and say I was wrong. I did think we'd get someone in today because it's obvious Amorim isn't in live with Rasmus or Zirkzee. But like I said I don't think not getting a loan CF in now will be a defining moment in RA stint as manager.

Maybe I'm wrong again and he'll be booted out of OT two months from now because INEOS have changed their mind and lost belief in the project. Maybe I'm just a generally more positive person than others and live more in hope than reality, all we can do is wait and see.

I think this could be a watershed actually. Precisely because it has been so bloody obvious that players were needed.

The only mitigation I hear people giving to Amorim for the poor performance is that he needs new players. Worst squad in history and he can't do anything without new players. Well, here we are, they had opportunity to address that and all they did was sign a 20 year old full back.

If he can't do anything with the squad he has, then why didn't they sign anybody? Why not some loan signings?

They keep conceding goals, they can't score goals, they decided not to do much in the transfer window. So now its on the coach to do some coaching and find some performances.

The shouldn't be exercising that additional year option under any circumstances. Let him go in 2026.

He is contracted until 2027. The optional year is 2028.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,937 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

Indeed it is, I read wrong info.

So he'll have at least til 2027 here. Genuinely think he could be effectively finished at the top level with this injury but he'll have a good bit of time at united to find out.

Regardless of the lack of players incoming, we've let Malacia, Rashford, and Antony go out on loan. Add in Mount, Shaw, Martinez on the long term sick leave now and the team is incredibly thin for a PL squad. There's a serious lack of quality and depth to the squad now and we are in a dogfight now to stay up. If results go against us next week we could be sitting in 16th place.

Lack of ignorance and knowledge on my part but is it the knee that's completely gone when you say double rupture or is it the leg either side of the knee?

The manager will pay the price for a decade of total mismanagement of the football club.

We are just blessed that the league is so poor at minute. If that United team was around 10-20 years ago we be fighting to stay in the PL.

We are going nowhere but downwards.

And if honest nobody should be surprised.

It's difficult to say. VVD did his ACL when he was a couple of years older than Martinez but has come back pretty strong, so it's possible.

We’re definitely not in a dogfight to say up. We’re 12 clear of relegation.

There’s a reasonable case that if we lost every single game for the rest of the year, we still wouldn’t get related. Leicester (18th) are on track for 27 points. We already have 29

I think the team will get enough points to stay clear of danger. But there is a fear, given the sheer lack of backbone in the team and how flaky they are, that if they did sink a bit lower towards the bottom three, that they'd just crumble with the pressure. And when you look what's happening today. Or more to the point, what's not happens. Goals can cover up a lot of cracks. And unfortunately, there's no goals in this team.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,937 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

Second time for licha, plus talk it's a double so could be gone 12+ months.

Would be surprising if he returned close to his physical level.

Disappointed not to have strengthened the front line today. But as others have said, we can't moan about blowing €10m on Amrabat for a loan last year and then spend whatever it was for Tel this year, especially since it would be a stretch to see how he's any more likely to solve our scoring issues than Hojlund or Zirkzee.

At the end of the day, we're not really much weaker than we were a week ago. Rashford gone if anything strengthens us because we've got rid of that ghost looking over our shoulder.

Antony offered absolutely nothing. Malacia was second choice behind Dalot and would have been 3rd choice behind Dorgu & Dalot.

Martinez is a loss, but given how late it happened we can understand why there wasn't a replacement planned.

The powers that be have decided against expensive panic buys or loans and decided to wing it til the summer. Nothing we can do but strap in and pray. For the league, that was the best option. Why overspend in January to maybe finish 10th instead of 14th?

In the cup comps, we're underdogs anyway despite our good Europa League stage finish (I don't hold to the alleged favourites tag). Plus if we do get to the later stages who knows, the Liverpool and Arsenal results show that we can pull the odd rabbit out of the hat on occasion.

    Thanks for confirming.

So why arent they being creative like Barca by selling sponsorship of executive boxes etc.

The season has been a write off for weels now..just get to 40pts try progress in Europa Lge and hope there is a better plan for summer

Fourteen games to go, and twelve points behind City. That's bite your hand off stuff going on recent seasons. A six pointer in April with City:-)

Ruud sending us down would be some story though 😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,008 ✭✭✭AidoEirE

This talk of relegation is pretty annoying as it's not happening. Don't see the need to feed the trolls who go on about it.

Not aimed at anyone here but just in general.

It's the ACL and MCL in the same knee that seem to have gone. It's 9-12 months out of everything goes well but with his injury record I doubt he'll be the same player when he comes back.
