yeah, Spurs in the EFL midweek, then Plymouth next weekend in the FA cup, then Everton.

Its on a Thursday night too, generally the league cup games in previous seasons have been Tuesday/Wednesday nights.

One less day to prepare for the next game depending on what way you look at it.

Thursday to Wednesday should be fine. I imagine most of the big names won't play against Plymouth in the cup next weekend anyway.

I expect that the line-up for the Plymouth game will be similar to that for Accrington Stanley/PSV.

Kelleher, Bradley, Quansah, Endo, Tsimikas, Morton, McConnell, Elliott, Chiesa, Danns, Ngumoha.

Jota and Gomez are back training so will probably be introduced from the bench. Nallo may also get the opportunity to redeem himself and allow Bradley to be rested.

I'm not one of them but I have been a Liverpool fan my whole life so I understand that sentiment. You are not a Liverpool fan so you obviously wouldn't understand…

It is going to be interesting to see how Arsenal moves on from this. The result, 5-1, is spectacular, but looking at the stats I do not think that result is fair from what they created. Their first goal was from good pressing but it was a mistake from City in the first few minutes. Their next big chance, the miss from Havertz, was again good pressing but you could argue that is a situation City should avoid getting in to. Their 2nd goal was a huge deflection, their 3rd was a breakaway as City pushed forward and the next 2, while the 4th was good movement from Lewis-Skelly the keeper should have done better as he got a good hand on it. The 5th was a shot way outside the goal as well.

Basically, 3 of their goals was from a xg of 0.072, you will not score those all the time. I wonder if this was like our 7-0 against United where everything just went right for us to score 7. I am a little wary as the momentum from this could see them go on a run, but at the same time I see the same issues for Arsenal they had before, creating good chances without Saka.

In any case, it doesn't really matter what they do, we need to only look at what we are doing and if we are performing close to our level we should be fine. Would be nice though if Arsenal fail to win a few as well to make it more comfortable though.

Any news of Trent ? We are heading into the business time of the season we could do without a player being out for any significant time. Am so glad we took care of business Saturday you could have imagined the different look it would be this morning after yesterdays result .

    latest:

Trent Alexander-Arnold will undergo a scan on Monday to discover the severity of the thigh problem that forced him out of Liverpool FC's win against Bournemouth. Not thought to be set for a lengthy lay-off but scans will reveal more.

On the flip side if he's going to be out for 3 or 4 weeks I'd prefer it to be from now and not in 4 weeks time. If he's fit from March through to the end of the season that'd be great

you gotta commend Arsenal for hanging in there.

Part of me can't wait to get this Everton game played and finally reset the games played.

Schedule is falling well for us atm, chances for Jota and a few others to get minutes as well.

A rare win at Goodison would be huge, last season's performance there broke my heart.

If we get past spurs in the cup we have Everton, Villa and City all away this month.

    Tough run of games.

It looks like Danns is going to Sunderland on loan for the remainder of the season. Should be good opportunity for him having the pressure to score goals in a team pushing for automatic promotion.

And yet, we've just completed a very tough run with Brentford, Forest and Bournmouth away.

It feels like it never ends!

Is there anything to be said for putting out the C team for the next 2 games ???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,697 ✭✭✭riddles

not for the league cup as it represents a chance for Slot to bag his first trophy - that said if the league cup next leg or potential final plays any role in derailing a league or CL tilt winning the league cup won’t count for much a bit like last season really

Given' 'em the Plymouth match off is enough anyway… more than a full week off and maybe you risk breaking rhythm.

And it has to be a good thing for momentum and atmosphere in the camp to be looking forward to a final.

GIven they just had a rest v PSV I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of the starters play at Plymouth too. Not completely full strength, but not B team either

The gap in the league fixtures kinda detracts from the momentum in the same way that International injury duty does. Hopefully the result yesterday is long forgotten about by the time they go to Leicester on the 15th. Ideally we'd have taken something at Goodison too to deflate them a little a couple of days before.

Kinda falls nicely, with a good few senior lads needing some time anyway… Elliott, Chiesa, Nunez, Jota, Gomez, Endo, Jones could all do with meaningful time. Would expect Nunez and Chiesa to start with Rio, and Jota to come on maybe. Gomez and Quansah at the back, and Endo, Jones, Elliott, McConnell and Morton dividing the midfield minutes between them.

Ideally you want to beat Everton just because Arsenal will be playing their games first for the rest of the month and having a 6 point gap is better than 3 points going into games

Full team for the Spurs game.

I know we go on about resting players but they've had a fair bit of rest already.

Players need to stay match fit, that's as important in my view. Chopping and changing teams can be detrimantal too.

A mix for Plymouth but full team for the rest of the season.

It's February already. They can rest in the summer.

If they can get past those games in decent shape they have 7 of the last 11 league games at Anfield. Need to get those 3 points at Everton to give themselves a bit of a cushion where they could afford to drop a couple points away to Villa and City.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,410 ✭✭✭jasonb

I thought Villa away was the 15th March?

Every month this season I keep telling myself "If we start next month with the same cushion" or "If we get through the next 3 or 4 games with the same cushion" etc. I'll keep on telling myself that until May! :)

It's scheduled for March 15th, but the League Cup Final is on March 16th. If we beat Tottenham on Thursday then the Aston Villa game will have to be rescheduled.

As both teams are already through to the last 16 round of the Champions League there was talk of the rescheduled game being brought forward to the week before the Man City game, which is when the second leg of the Champions League play offs round take place.

He really needs to move on to play regular football. It's a pity the club didn't accept the loan offer from Leverkusen in the summer, working with Alonso could have done wonders for Morton.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 306 ✭✭Tommysocks11

Jesus lucky we are top of table and riding high in Europe to appease fans as not a peep from our club as another transfer window prepares to close, we really move slowly at times, a reinforcement or two would not have went amiss but I suppose if our choices don't wanna move mid season there's nothing we can do

Why buy for the sake of buying

Exactly, look at what City are buying, where we are in the table and other competitions. Currently we have a fully fit squad with some good players not making match day squads. What happens to Trent, VVD & Salah will have a big impact on what we do in the summer.
