my new build had them. You could see daylight all around the front door! I replaced all after 8 years.

The project isn't even finished!? He just mentioned its the end of January 2025!! They must have filmed this a week ago..

ugh not liking the black. Disappointing that it’s not all done.

Same as. I am not a DB man though, I like my rooms and delineations. A 4 metre ceiling is lovely but a waste of space and money to me. Not to mention the cost of heating such a space.

I think the kitchen and black bits there all look rather cheap. Just stained soft wood?

Mine are in 25 years, had to replace a patio door though but used them again because another company refused to install in Donegal

The black is just too overpowering.

Budget has to be way over

I’m the same, I suppose I’m old school with just having rooms separated - open plan is not really my thing.

35k over isn't that bad considering

That kitchen for a small space is very dark. Personally do not like it at all

Really hope it all works out for these guys. They seem like good lads.

I’d prefer to be buried under the basement than be left with that heap of s**t, the kitchen should be burned

yep you're right ! The details escaped me but that's it :-)

Nothing appealing about that at all .. I know it’s not finished but it’s still cramped.. hopefully they aren’t leaving the cement floor..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 307 ✭✭gaming_needs90

"People underestimate volume". No we do not Dermot. We know the cost of volume. Less actual floor space and far more heating..

Do they need more money to finish it? Why is the ceiling of the dining room not plastered? So many questions.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,643 ✭✭✭Xander10

I'm at that stage of considering replacing. Neighbour got theirs replaced recently but notice no difference in drafts. I tried to Google the supplier but could only get a mobile number, no website. Probably better looking for a reputable supplier. My Sister got Fairco and very happy with the end product.

What the hell. Just cut off with no real ending.

Either a fall out or severe lack of funds.

something very off about this. maybe the show finished it up or something. the back garden is a disaster. the ceiling in the kitchen is not plastered despite the walls being plastered and painted and kitchen fitted ect. they showed upstairs where the velux windows are and its only latted and felted with no slates. stud walls exposed in lots of places, slabing half done.

how are they going to finish this up . skimming that ceiling will distroy everything below it and will need scafolding . how will they landscape the back without driving diggers through the house

All the furniture you saw below was just brought in for the final reveal. Think that happens a lot on these shows.

Dermots kitchen plans are always poor imo. It's clear that he doesn't cook at all. Tonight's kitchen was far too cramped. They ended up with a tiny sink, looking at a wall and a teeny, tiny hob. It's like a cheap kitchen you would put in a rental apartment or a council house.

I also thought the doors at the back looked way too clunky.

I wonder will we ever get to see the completed house.

it’s north strand, much of it is reclaimed land from what my grandmother told me growing up, from my knowledge of geology the water table would be very high and then soil very permeable, not ideal for a basement…

They explained that towards the end of the programme. The job took much longer than anticipated due to the issues with the water and wasn't completed in time for the end of the series. So they showed us what has been done at this stage.

The furniture was just put in for effect to give an idea of how it will all look and will be removed to allow the building work to continue.

I guess at some stage in the next series they might revisit it and show us the finished job.

Not sure exactly where in north strand they are, but north strand itself is between the royal canal and I think it's the tolka river.

My bus route would go through it , I don't ever recall the area being flooded, but I wouldn't read too much into that.

The lad who did the professional dancing was managed by Julian Benson. Bit of a theme in the last two episodes!

Seemed like two sound lads. Looks like a great house. Hopefully many happy years in it for them.

no problem with the furniture , thats all staged stuff brought in. but the kitchen isnt and the walls being painted. all the fancy timber work of the mezzanine area etc . why do all that and not skim the ceiling.

why not slate the roof. thats one of the first thing to be done before finish work is done. its a small house there cannot be that many slates on it. probably 600 -1000 max thats a few days to a weeks work for a slater.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,392 ✭✭✭Princess Calla

Christ that episode would give you anxiety.

I don't think I'd be brave enough to buy such an old house, especially terraced.

Did they own the basement house too ...it had its is own front door so found that confusing.

Hope it works out for them..... finding so many problems, I just wouldn't have been the better for it. They took it well (on camera at least)

I hope it gets finished and they have many happy years together in it, and the stress becomes a distant memory.

I'm in Kildare and went local. To be honest, mine were so bad anything would be an improvement.

I just looked up my bill, 8.5 k for standard 3 bed house - windows, composite front door, back door, French doors in December 2018. Plus I got the vat back under hri. Someone got a price recently for almost 20k. Prices are crazy.

As the "Strand" part of the name implies the mouth of the Liffey originally came up to where North Strand Road is.

Before the North Quay Wall was built c.1800 the area flooded regularly and still has a high water table.

The last major flood was in 1954 when the Tolka flooded causing major disruption.

First they had a small digger and mini dumper that looked to hold two barrows full in the back garden. The dumper had to reverse into the house then turn around and drive out to skip.

Later let me quote "an astonishing 150 tons of earth has been cleared from the back garden" this while show the digger and lads with wheelbarrows as as is it should have been in the first place.

I'd say people with a house who get on this show get at the very least €25k for being on it.
