I'm at a loss to how any Liverpool fans think this City side is capable of winning 15 of their remaining 17 games(which is what they have to do to try and compete for the title).

Even the other night, Brugge should have scored at least 3....City are just woeful defensively, and simply cannot deal with any kind of sustained pressure.

Based on previous seasons. Arsenal fans would be the same. City in the last 6/7 or so years have been a machine so it's hard to break the expectations of habit.

But, but … This morning I had the pleasure of being told that Arsenal are unbeaten in 13 league games and have accumulated more points than any other team in that period. The fact that they had played an additional game and accumulated a whole 1 point more than Liverpool was never mentioned.

I though Diaz was outstanding again.

Gravenberch is just a revelation. He needs to be offered a new improved long term deal.

I think LFC have been slow to reward, and secure, younger players in the past. I think I remember Trent having to wait for an improved deal when he broke through. It’s slack if true.

I’ve seen enough of Kerkez now to hope we sign him in the summer. What a player and what an athlete.

Seemingly the guy standing beside him today, Huijsen, has a very low release clause in his contract. Only 19, looks quality and has a left foot.

Could sort out the left side of the defence for the next 10 years for £50-60 million. Sounds like Huijsen has many suitors though.

Liverpool were linked with Huijsen when he was at Malaga, he used to partner Bajcetic in the back line for Spain at under age level. There was also speculation about a move when he was at Juventus but a formal approach never materialised.

they had a good / clever level of aggression disrupting and harrying. We let them play through us very easily. 15 fouls to 9 and we still end up with 3 yellows to their 2 - our disruptive fouls are so infrequent we seem to get pinged on them for a yellow straight away.

It was like watching nightmare on elm street Trent trying to defend. On any other day that costs us.

If we win 11 and lose 4 out of 15 we have 89 points plus a draw or two getting to 90.

Arsenal need to win 14/15 to get 89

If city win 15 in a row they get to 86 so really we are our own biggest threat.

Our last 10 away we have taken 24 points v Arsenals 16 - City 12.

I don't really worry about what other teams are doing too be honest, once liverpool get the 3 points the other results don't bother me as we can only control our games,as mentioned above I looked at highlights again last night and gravenberch was very good again he has become a very important cog in the midfield wheel

We were lucky yesterday, soft penalty, they hit the crossbar and post,,I was worried about it before the start,, now go again, it's a bad time to be playing Everton so hopefully we can knock them off their stride also.

tbh, there’s simply no bad result tomorrow between these two. What a time to be alive! 😀

Moyes has them playing football which is a positive for us. They should have the confidence to come forward and try to score goals instead of having a wall of bodies deep in their own half.

the last two wins have been massive - Arsenal under huge pressure. A draw or loss for them takes some pressure off the Derby and we can rest the first 11 going into it.

Hoping city and Arsenal draw today.

    Just to kill city completely.

Think all we need is 8 more wins and a few draws. Arsenal need to be flawless almost.

83 points or so wins the league I think

Expect that to change against us.🚌🚌🚌🚌

Cook's left leg kicks into Gakpo's left leg which causes the trip.

Gakpo didn't "just trip himself" and it's not like he was trying to buy a penalty or looking to go down under any slight contact, he wouldn't have even known where Cook was.

I don't think it's all that soft. It's a combination of clumsy and unfortunate for Bournemouth but there's no injustice being done.

Yep the equivalent of a tap tackle in rugby. Hugely effective way to trip someone up

This was clearly unintentional but it prevented a shot on goal

Nothing soft about that penalty yesterday.
    Gakpo was tripped.

    That's a stonewall penalty.

I don't recall Moyes having Everton park the bus against us at Goodison. In the last game he managed them against us was in Rodgers first season, we went 2-0 up after 20 minutes and then they threw everything at us. The score was 2-2 at half time. Rodgers hooked Sahin and Suso and went defensive by bringing on an extra defender. In the second half we just soaked up the pressure and tried to play on the break.

I don't understand the soft penalty talk at all.... Nonsensical. MOTD went big on it too, dumb as ****, he was tripped plain and simple and was in on goal unless he was tripped. Penalty all day long, and to say otherwise is disingenuous. We had a bit of fortune with the kleuivert miss, but that's the game, putting the ball into the net. Mo did, he didn't, that's the winning and losing of the game right there, the better player won the game for us, and that's skill and not dumb luck.

Didn't realise City and Arsenal both still have to host Bournemouth this season, they both lost on their trips to the Vitality. So far we're the only team this season to take all 6 points from them.

It was completely accidental coming together, but it was a trip and a clear penalty.

One of those that looks soft if it's given but if he'd stumbled, stayed on his feet and shot wide, the commentator would say he should have gone down for a penalty.

Good win, Bournemouth were more than deserving of a point, or could have won on another day. These results are huge in the long run.

The correct term for the pen is ‘lucky’ rather than ‘soft’. Absolutely stonewall pen, but a complete accident and the defender was a tad unlucky.

We were also lucky to keep a clean sheet, but Mo (who certainly didnt have his best game) made Bournemouth pay for their misses with an exquisite finish. Type of thing that often happens to us!

I’d also like to think that if Bournemouth had scored, we’d have upped it, as that has happened plenty of times this season. A better performance would have been ideal, but result is what really matters. Hopefully we can have both v Everton.

Grav being the best midfielder in the league (so far) is mind blowing!

Arsenal win today, which is the most likely outcome, keeps them right in it.

On the MOTD discussion around the penalty.

MOTD called it as a penalty. The only thing they added is it's soft because it wouldn't have been given years ago but that's how the game is now. So it's a comparison of today's game Vs many years ago. Go back long enough and you could nearly assault someone and it wouldn't be a free kick. Imagine Souness playing in today's game. He would hold the red card record comfortably.

Btw great ball from Robertson for the penalty too, he's played a few like this recently. He had a really good relationship with Mane on that wing, it'd be great to see more between him and Gakpo.

Did'nt see the game yesterday, watched the highlights on youtube, according to that, it was a smash and grab.

    How was the game overall?

In relation to the game today, i'd be ok with a draw, i know the maths suggest a win for city is the best result for us but years of seeing city hunt down leads has ingrained a cautious approach with hoping they win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,673 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

It wasn't a smash and grab, but we did ride our luck a bit. They had three or four chances that could have gone in on another day. Felt like we were in control first half but they were better than us in the second. Certainly couldn't have complained if it had ended all square, but we weren't totally undeserving

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,093 ✭✭✭eigrod

They both have to play Forest away too, I think? Glad we’re finished with Forest & Man Utd.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,766 ✭✭✭Talisman

Certainly was not a smash and grab, Bournemouth had two chances to score through Semenyo and Kluivert. At the other end we also had opportunities for Diaz, Mac Allister, Jones, Soboszlai, and Alexander-Arnold.

Given the fact that a penalty was the winning goal, Bournemouth must have been robbed.

xG yesterday suggests it wasn't really a smash and grab, obviously they should have put away the rebound off the post, but otherwise we were pretty solid

    Bournemouth (1.07) 0-2 (2.94) Liverpool
