It was way forward. Obvious to most.

Rugby has a fans problem. Interminable moaning about refs and provinces shouldn't be the cornerstone of the sport.

It's not the 'cornerstone' and sometimes it gets tedious, but last night wasn't good for the future of the game IMHO.

If we are not allowed to have a opinion life would be boring.

this, and the break and pass were sublime. A lovely try.

    Feck, Scotland try.

What's boring is the exact same crap every game, whinging about teh worst refereeing performance in history or whatever.

Ooh, 'not allowed have an opinion', it's just like Stalin's Russia, innit.

Scotland have their tails up here. If they can keep it up for the whole game it should be an easy enough win.

Terrible from Italy. Handy win for Scotland by the looks of things.

Ireland England aftermath will be dozens of posts about a particular decision for hours, almost guaranteed. Every ref would have 1 match and sacked by posters here

The complaining about the complaining about refs is as tiresome as the over the top vitriol about them. Mistakes happen, but it should be ok to call out egregious ones. Sometimes they make little or no difference, but you have stuff like last night where there was a clear high tackle ignored on Adams, penalty immediately awarded to France, from which they went to the corner and got a try. That's a big swing, when it could have been Wales with a lineout in the French 22. Refs standards need to improve, but they don't deserve the toxic abuse.

Big fan of Italy taking the 3 point option

    Even at 14-0 behind

    14-6 back in the game.

I hope Ireland take every 3 point opportunity* early against England today.

*Unless opposition are down to 14 or on a final warning

Italy settling in a bit. Scots not capitalising on the good start. Breakdown is a mess, Scots in at the side all over the place.

    Jesus but Russell butchered that

CApuozzo got that kick clear he was away. Pity it was charged down

Another failure of the "great" man to execute the basics of the game.

I just don't get the hype.

ITALY making Scotland look like the All Blacks of 10-15 years ago

Italy doing well physically, stopping Scotland dead repeatedly. Just need to cut out some of the mistakes and they're well in this

Question on the new law about uncontested lineouts, is any jumper in the air considered a contest, or does it have to be someone in a realistic position to compete? I'd be telling someone at the tail to jump up everytime just to ensure I'd get the fk for a crooked throw

I dunno, when the mistakes come, they are on the low side of suicidal.

Their game management choices aren't great either at times.

Russell is the best passer in the world. Times them so well whether it's the inside flick to a blindside runner, or the whipped ball out wide. He's excellent at putting his teammates into space.

But he can be so loose in his game. We've seen today the amount of offloads and passes he's attempted that have gone to ground. You can forgive it because he does a lot of good things, but at times his errors really hurt you.

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 9,396 ✭✭✭fitz

I don't think you can forgive it. He's just asking to have one of those speculative offloads intercepted. And Scotland aren't that far ahead. Italy get a try here after half time and it's anyone's game. Russell still needs to learn to not f*ck around like it's training.

A trifle silly the last comment don't you think? Rather juvenile. I'll leave to your closed world.

    Much better from Italy.

I think Russell's own characteristics worked against him there. He loves that no look pass to the centre running a tight line. The Italy centre had it scouted from a mile off.

One can only echo Fiona Coghlan's exasperated, almost annoyed question pre-match concerning Scotland.

"where does all this confidence come from?"
