Some people keep a spare phone for occasional use. PAYG used to be handy for that. They've made it unreliable to do that now.

Unviable financially at least at per unit rates. After Three Ire CEO took the joint CEO role at Three U.K. he upped payg unit rates from 3/2/1p for calls, texts and data which was a slap in the face of Three U.K. customers who joined Three U.K. campaign to reduce interconnection fees between phone networks, Three U.K. lost a lot of customers because of Three Ire CEO dual UK role.

British Telecom were also on it (having previously floated o2 outside BT for fear of MVNO enforcement as the incumbent), after BT & Three the main players and others for interconnection fees down it made buying EE mobile much cheaper for BT, both BT & Three Ire CEO played a nasty game, where consumers in the long run were not their target focus afterall as they stated to Ofcom to get the interconnect fees down, call charges & bills went up!

All very well but disappear credit is not the why to do that.

With 3 you must top up every 6 months.Topping up saves any existing credit.

You might be on emergency back up battery base station where they give you enough data speed to send messages as data on apps, the lower the batteries get the more it goes into ultra low power consumption mode and it’s literally what’s app/telegram/twitter/facebook font only that speed can handle.

I still have brutally slow speeds, like under 100kbs to 0kbs. Average best at peaktime would not exceed 1mbs. It used to be much more. I wonder if their network capacity is just maxed out!

  • Site Banned Posts: 392 ✭✭ScotsGoneIRE

At that low rate I doubt it. Have you called them and asked ?

    New sim?

    What phone do you have?

Have you backed up to a computer and reset/reinstalled ?

100Kbps is like 2G dial up Wireless Access Protocol (56-114Kbps) General Packet Radio Service.

My speeds have improved dramatically in the last few weeks, fastest I've ever had with 48 actually. With them 3 years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,895 ✭✭✭Kaisr Sose

I have Huawei P20, which is not 5G. I was getting good speed last week while roaming. I have not done anything with settings. I will be getting a new phone but it's not the curent phone that's the problem. I first noticed the really slow data last Sunday evening. Saturday was ok. I will call them but I don't expect much joy will come of it

three were still reporting storm issues on website yesterday, I would call and ask about your local Three area.

Also a slight voltage spike from a battery let alone charger ca. damage a sim data capabilities.

If they say no local issues ask for a new sim.

I renewed my e10.99 plan with 48 yesterday and got 28 days.27 today.Thought it might have corrected itself to start at 30 days.Anyone experience the same recently?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,610 ✭✭✭✭zell12

28 days in a month (February)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 887 ✭✭✭ECookie13

I’m pretty sure 48 is one of the last to follow the calendar month, which is the best—i.e., 28 days in February, 31 in January. Most other operators have switched to 28 days as the standard, and useless ComReg has not challenged them, so expect 48 to eventually do the same.

    Shhh! Don't tell 48!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,520 ✭✭✭gipi

They tried to switch to a 28 day month a couple of years ago, and Comreg got many complaints from customers who were on the "7.99 a month for life" packages because it was a sly increase.

The proposed change had to be shelved after Comreg said no.

Is there a customer figure of those on the gloriously magnificent €7.99 plan?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,525 ✭✭✭pizzahead77

They always renew on the same date every month (whatever date you started the "membership" whether it has 28, 29, 30 or 31 days

    Hadn't thought of that ?????

But they should stick to the 30 day reg for every renewal.Have not renewed that plan for a while so could be punishment for not being regular. Will have a go at them next month

You'd be missing out on seven days a year for the sake of two.

Must be the biggest % on E7.99

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,673 ✭✭✭amber2

Monthly renewal and got 28 days too, so must be for the month of February.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,582 ✭✭✭beachhead

Mine should renew on the 9th March but expect it will be 7th March. Will wait til next renewal and if 28 days again will be burning the chat

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,466 ✭✭✭spakman

It's done the same day every month as has already been explained.

There's nobody changing your renewal date on a personal vendetta.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,582 ✭✭✭beachhead

My month has changed from 30 days to 28 days.I renewed on the 9th Feb and was awarded 28 days not 30 days.End of.It is not a personal vendetta—are you mafiosi or what.As stated in other posts and I am well aware of it 48 tried a 2 day reduction and then backed off.

I don't know what you night see if anything on your 48 dashboard when renewing but I clearly saw 28 days remaining not 30 days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,466 ✭✭✭spakman

As I said, it renews on the same day each month.

So if your renewal date is 9th of the month, check your calendar for how many days there are from 9th of Feb to 9th March.

You'll find it's 28 days. That's not something 48 changed, that calendar has been around quite a while....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,582 ✭✭✭beachhead

I have never seen 28 days flagged before on 48.It should 30 days.

    28 days up to the 8th March.Day 1 is the 9th Feb,Day 28 is 8th March.

I will have lost 2 days of my previous 30 day membership.
