Just being childish. You can get your fun with somebody else if you want

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 78,744 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

I was also told in no uncertain snobbish terms that I ' may have lower standards' than the great unwashed Ray/ 😁

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,351 ✭✭✭Ray Palmer

Yeah I don't keep manure in my home either.

I am not neurotic about not liking solid fuel I just don't like the hassle and mess. Have not changed my stance and only have ever stated my preference and not wavered on that view. Others don't like it either.

You really need to start looking up words and what they mean because you don't appear to know how to use them correctly.

Having different standards is not snobbish. Saying I have "better" standards than you would be. I said it is personal choice and I don't care how you live. That is an illustration of your lack of comprehension. We are agreed we just have a difference of opinion?

would you believe, a probably 20m evergreen tree is being taken down in the garden behind me. delighted about that, apparently the root plate was lifting during eowyn. loads of free firewood if i want it - not particularly good firewood, but there'd be many years worth of burning in it (once i have time to let it season properly)

In general, perhaps not claimed here but in general that would be a big factor in people choosing to continue using it. At least in the more rural parts of Ireland. It's the reason we are currently using it - as the house is poorly insulated at the moment so each other method of heating would be far more expensive.

Once we have the house upgraded it will be gone.

Either you are cutting it from the bog or you are paying someone to do it. If you are paying someone to do it and deliver it etc.. then you are losing the cost effectiveness of the product but keeping a good few of the downsides

Doesn't seem like wood burning is very common at all? At least not by https://www.seai.ie/
Oil is the dark blue in the above chart. Green is Gas. Some colours are off.

From that chart Oil and Electric are the widest used methods of heating homes. Very little "extra work" there.
So seems most people are going this direction as houses become better setup to retain heat.

You were told you have lower standards, not that you may do.

    You have lower standards

So seems most people are going this direction as houses become better setup to retain heat.

Again. Can only speak for myself.

I would have a high energy rated home with a brand new super efficient Gas boiler.

I put in the stove by choice because I like them. We get value from it.

You really need to start looking up words and what they mean because you don't appear to know how to use them correctly.

As do you with the word "hassle" that you've repeatedly used about solid fuel. Just because you think something is a hassle, doesn't make it a fact, it's your opinion, nothing more.

He used the words willfully ignorant wrongly also.

    Ironically 😂

i think i mentioned it in the thread earlier; we've GFCH and a honeywell heating system which switches the rads off when the room gets to temp. so having the stove visibly reduces our gas bill.

plus, i'm aware of the environmental issues of burning wood, but i have not bought wood to burn in it, in probably 8 years. so what we've been burning is stuff that was being cut down anyway, and not being cut down for firewood. that would have rotted (or been burned) with the carbon in the wood being released as CO2 anyway - so we're reducing fossil fuel use by using it.

i'm not going to claim that's scalable, but it works for us.

I am not misusing the word though. It is additional work and that is not in dispute which means the correct use of the word. I don't care if you don't like my words but they are not inaccurate because people are not bothered by the extra work.

If I said I have a higher standard of cleanliness I am sorry for my misspeak and should have just said different.

Your neurosis is evident in what you term 'dirt'.
If by-products of human activity is 'dirt' then you are just as dirty as anyone else. Differently dirty but dirty none the less.

*Unless you are meticulously washing your dogs ass there is 'manure' in your home. Not to mention what they are depositing on a micro level. Panic! 😁

You are conforming to the 'my farts smell of roses' type again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,351 ✭✭✭Ray Palmer

No I didn't you made the claim without any reference. I still believe i used it correctly. Ignorant means to simply be unaware while wilful ignorance is choosing not to find out especially to avoid changing your point of view but can also applied to saying things like "I can't be bothered to learn new uses of language"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,104 ✭✭✭Rocket_GD

Oxford definition of the word hassle "a situation that is annoying because it involves doing something difficult or complicated that needs a lot of effort". Lighting and cleaning a stove is neither difficult or requires a lot of effort.

Does it require a bit of additional work for an individual, yes, doesn't make it a hassle though.

Let's try a different analogy, my partner hates ironing, she thinks that it's a hassle and a waste of time. I find it quite relaxing, I'll be watching the Manchester United match later while ironing and having a few beers, not even a tiny bit of hassle for me.

Something can be seen as a hassle for one person and not another, understand yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,351 ✭✭✭Ray Palmer

Simply not true and a terrible misuse of the word. If I was, as you said I wouldn't have dogs so you are fully aware. I don't store manure in my house <> to fecal mater enters my house. The world is covered in a thin layer of fecal matter and there are creature on all our faces that explode with their fecal matter everyday. None of this gives me any stress.

Somebody saying an open fire doesn't leave a mess they are dimply not telling the truth. I don't have this issue but others do. If I could get my dogs to clean their paws on entering the house I would but I can't and accept that the same way those with solid fuel accept the mess of that. That is all. You really need to stop making claims about me or what I have said that are untrue. Still using the word "dirt" correctly

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 78,744 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

You have just accepted you and your house is as dirty as anyone elses.

    So what's your point then?

You don't like the mess from a fire, you wouldn't have one. So what?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,351 ✭✭✭Ray Palmer

Using that logic nobody could say anything is a hassle if one person didn't find it extra work. Hassle and inconvenient can be used interchangeably. As we are talking comparatively to suit you I would always have to say "hassle compared to a gas central heating". Context means everything and if it helps you please insert into your mind the quote marks when I say hassle.

Now if I say, "stop hassling me about stuff you obviously don't understand" don't insert the quoted statement above😗

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,104 ✭✭✭Rocket_GD

From your first line it seems that you might be getting it, some people find things a hassle, some don't, it's not universal or objective, it's in fact very subjective.

You would find a stove hassle, many here do not, simple.

You finally comprehended what I have being saying now and your response is "so what?"?

The question is why did it take you so long and bother you so much that you made false statements about me? You called me a snob and neurotic because you didn't comprehend and no saying you are sorry?

My point never changed but your comprehension has proving what I said about your comments and your failure to comprehend. Why did you care so much?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,351 ✭✭✭Ray Palmer

I understand the argument and have pointed out how the English language works to try to help you understand how you are incorrect given the context of the conversation. Is English a 2nd or 3rd language to you or something?

"stop hassling me about stuff you obviously don't understand"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 78,744 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

😁 You are a snob because you make judgements about people you don't know, including, as pointed out, me.
You are neurotic about what you perceive as 'dirt' when it is clear your own house is just as prone to being called dirty.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,351 ✭✭✭Ray Palmer

What judgments? You will need to be specific because I have responded to so many people and so many false claims

As I acknowledged the existence of dirty every where and it doesn't bother me how can I be neurotic about it? Not liking the mess from a solid fuel fire is a preference and that is all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,351 ✭✭✭Ray Palmer

Here is how I see this debate. I don't follow his views but she just didn't listen and made false statements and misrepresentations

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,104 ✭✭✭Rocket_GD

I am not incorrect, it's a subjective noun that can be used for an array of things, doesn't mean it's in anyway a fact as you were trying to state multiple times.

It's my first language, you're the only person here who isn't understanding the difference between subjective and objective.

Dealing with you is a hassle for me, as it require effort and is an annoyance.

Ironing is not a hassle as I find it relaxing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,351 ✭✭✭Ray Palmer

No you are objectively wrong because context is vital in the English language. I have tried to clarify for you but you cannot comprehend and I cannot help you. Your understanding is flawed and narrow. Most nouns are subjective but you don't get to change the subjective nature in the middle of a discussion. If you want just put in "more work" instead of hassle as that is obviously how I am using it maybe that will help you. I am using the word correctly you just don't like it, suck it up buttercup😙

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,104 ✭✭✭Rocket_GD

The context wasn't being changed as multiple people told you they found it no effort to have their stoves, you just willfully ignored this as you see them as a hassle.

I am using the word correctly you just don't like it, suck it up buttercup😙

For a snob, you seem to have no class.
