Did you look at the thread I linked? Shows the whole process and all you need. As for cells, the consensus is to get the latest batch that NKON.nl is bringing in. Anything between 280Ah and 340Ah is fine, B choice is fine, just get them at a good price. Typically about €55 or so + VAT per cell give or take a few quid. You need 16 of them

Looks like a new EV plan coming out tomorrow from energia. Be interesting to see if rates stay similar for EV rate or ev hours increase/decrease

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,115 ✭✭✭✭unkel

I heard the same about last Monday. Nothing happened. Maybe it will tomorrow! I found that our Pinergy plan is still active and that you can actually renew it. Very tempted to do so as it has been far more lucrative than any other plan could have been. By a country mile.

Same here and won't be moving as long as the export rate stays as it is and the EV rate. Could do with an extra hour EV in the winter but happy as is if stays the same.

Thought may suit others though who don't have large storage as it seems there will be a night rate of about 19c and the EV rate from 2-6 staying the same. Peak rate and increased day rate too with it.

Still good to see new plans coming aboard

suppose it might be somewhere in the middle of this (current energia smart rate)

Is this it, the "EV Smart Drive Plus" plan? Pretty disappointing if so:

    image.png

The 4h slot is helpful compared to the just 3h slot of Pinergy, but the EV rate is 60-80% higher. Looks like I will be renewing with Pinergy, possibly early. That means I won't be able to have my gas cut off until at least late 2027. For shame.

The government is missing lots of opportunities here to stimulate people to move away from burning fossil fuels. A bonus for people switching off gas and a free upgrade from the standard 12kVA to the more suitable 16kVA for an electric home would do the trick for a lot of people, me included. Forget about insane €6,000 subsidies for heat pumps and even more insane subsidies for deep retrofits.

Yep that is the new plan. Think will still suit those with smaller batteries. Personally will be staying with pinergy but definitely an option for many

Jeez think the biggest killer for this plan is that if you use more than 1000kwh in two months on the EV slot the price doubles 🙈

Yeah pretty garbage, you'd need to export 27kwh a day to offset the import in those 4 hours vs only about 12kwh export needed with pinergy, assuming the poorer 20c FIT with energia.

Oh and actually a lot more since I forgot they charge extra when you go over 1000kwh

Energia is back to their old nasty habit of punishing and overcharging people who use a lot of the greenest electricity. Just like they did a few years ago. Only worse this time ☹️

There's a term called Green Dazzling, this is what they are ~ at, making it difficult for end user to get crystal clear clarity on pricing

Even the BG offer works out cheaper than that I think:

Vs the standard smart plan. if you use 2000kwh in 2 months - and only counting night rate/ev rate. The standard smart plan is €10 more expensive, day rate is 10c cheaper and you have 9 hrs of night rate to boot. and never mind about the peak rate!

Once you start using any day that 10c difference will add up quick €100 every 1000kWh of day rate.

Total non runner for nearly everyone. 1000kWh is only about 15kWh/day. thats barely 100km.

    head melting stuff here.

Still with Energia but due to move and really not sure where to go.

    20kwh batteries + HP + 3.3kw car charger.

On the cold nights I really need that 4 hr window even with 18kw MIC

10kw battery + 6kw HP + ~ 1kw house load doesn't give me much space to charge the car.

Do the sums. The €100 welcome bonus and 5c Pinergy rate might be more than enough to compensate for the cold days where the 3 hours is not enough and you would need to use expensive day rate. Also batteries are dirt cheap. You could add 15kWh to your battery for well under €1k incl VAT and delivery. If you could cylcle the extra battery once a day on the Pinergy plan, the pay back period is an insanely short 15 months after losses

Can't fit another battery realistically, especially if I'm looking at getting a second EV etc.

Really only have 72kwh to play with (energia) or 54kwh with the 3 hour window pinergy.

    20kwh battery + 24kwh heat pump (cold night) + 12kwh for one ev + 2 or 3 kwh for house load = 58kwh

I know not every night is cold etc, but who knows how long these 4 hour windows will last too.

Realistically would need 3 phase if I was looking at another battery.

So 16kVA? You could crank up the myenergi limit by a few amps. I have been running my 12kVA on 66A max on a 63A fuse for a year now, zero issues. Remember if you do this, you are not getting anywhere close to the ESB fuse (which would not be wise to pop)

Seriously, do the sums. The savings on the 5c rate are enormous (plus the 25c FIT which is the highest in the business). Even if you had 60-70 days of the year that you needed to buy day rate units, could be more than compensated

And 3h slot with EVs that average say 16kWh / 100km with 3h times 7.4kW minus losses, so say net 20kWh into the cars, is good for 46k km per year. Far more than 2 cars doing the national average. Do you do more than that?

    It's all about the sums

Make sure to check your board periodically if you're pulling that power every night.

A good point about the cars, any idea how you get the welcome credit from pinergy? Registering at the moment and can't see any reference.

I inspect it every so often for that same reason and more recently I (or my sparky friend I should say) added a shellyem with temp sensors to each of the big draw breakers, and temps sit somewhere in the region of 35-47c at full load (about 65a)

With the added benefit that now I am able to setup automation if it gets too warm, reduce charging of batteries or EV.

Half-tempted to put in a few noctua fans in there to keep things even cooler.

silently waits for the guy that thinks we're insane to chip in 🤣

Do I just mention that I'm part of them or what? I think one of the lads tried to get on it and they said no.

Probably have more capacity after 3:40 all right but then again a second EV might take that

If you have too much bandwidth and still have some battery to fill, just get a €80 rectifier. We have a dedicated thread on them here on the forum

Batteries are the issue. Solaredge proprietary high voltage batteries unfortunately. $$$ for another 10kwh

Greenlink is live as of 23:00 yesterday.

They've added it to the smartgriddashboard too.
