I thought I read other day Russian soldiers asking for even civilian shotguns to be sent to them to combat the drone threats as they are great to have against drones. Can't seem to remember where I read it, tho. So yeah, shotguns do seem to be what the common soldiers could have to combat them.

I've only seen one combat clip where a Russian patrol had one fella on duty with a shotgun scanning the sky and it looked very like a non military gaming gun.

Not much use at night though if the drone can see your body heat but you can't see it.

Yeah they could really do with them to be sure. Your right would only be good for the day time as well.

Lasers seem cheaper option and already being tested

    anyways

“NATO’s James Appathurai told the European Parliament’s hybrid warfare committee on Tuesday that uncovering the plot to kill Rheinmetall’s CEO in July was the tip of the iceberg.”

I guess Russia killing innocent civilians in EU is not an issue

No reason whatsoever to stop issuing visas to Russians or not to start kicking Russians out

Using those branches as a form of stand-off armor for drones and the like is pretty ingenious, actually.

I'm looking into shoguns myself. By default, I have one for every ten troopers, but they weren't designed for air defense. The trick is trying to figure out how to get the correct chokes and ammo in the army system. Fortunately, most bases have a clay pigeon range.

    Speaking of shotguns and drones

Being tested already, basically a flying claymore

I know that you specialise in armour in the US military. Do you think American armour would be in trouble if in a war that Russia is facing as well? I mean would American tanks in your opinion have to have the same set up as Russian and Ukrainian tanks do with putting the extra protection on like the picture above? Do you think that US tank crews would be prepared for a scenario against drones?

There were/are automatic shotguns , I assume they're kinda heavy , I don't know wether they could be mounted on a monopod ,or mount to take the weight,? And maybe even a spider web style sight , I assume the ammunition load'd be really important , would it be worth mixing close in rounds ( birdshot ) with more distance rounds ,

Patriot missiles and at least one system, leaving Israel, missiles for Ukraine - the system for the US for a refurb..or a service,

I think Israel operated 8 patriots PAC 2s, a mix of US and German supplied .. seems like at least the US ones were loaners ,

The Russians have reached the outskirts of Berlin-

It looks like history is starting up again.

The Economist is very much pro-NATO but even it is struggling to be upbeat about the war in Ukraine. It's published an article on Monday titled "Amid talk of a ceasefire, Ukraine's front line is crumbling"

It copes as much as it can about the supposed 10,000 NK troops in Kursk (clearly the hide and seek champions of 2024-25) but even so there is some tough admissions about the reality of the situation.

The order to retreat [from Velyka Novosilka] came as soon as a mist descended. It was a nightmareish task that had to be completed on foot, under drone-filled skies, and across a river. The evidence of triumphant Russian propaganda channels suggests that many failed to make it.

“They probe for our weak points,” says Andriy Cherniak, a military intelligence officer.  “And then they mass force wherever they have tactical success.”

“One of our tanks crept out near the frontlines,” says Captain Ivan Sekach, an officer with Ukraine’s 110th brigade defending the town. “Ten drones attacked, setting it alight almost immediately.”

Put simply, Russia has the infantry and Ukraine does not. Issues with mobilisation and desertion have hit Ukraine’s reserves hard. “We struggle to replace our battlefield losses,” says Colonel Pavlo Fedosenko, the commander of a Ukrainian tactical grouping in the Donbas. “They might throw a battalion’s worth of soldiers at a position we’ve manned with four or five soldiers.” The brigades that make up the Donbas frontline are consistently understaffed, under pressure, and cracking. The front line keeps creeping back.

“We no longer have tactics beyond plugging holes,” says “Kupol,” the nom de guerre of a now-retired commander, who up until September led a brigade fighting in eastern Donbas. “We throw battalions into the chaotic mess and hope we can somehow stop the grind.”

The Russians will not run out of weapons any time soon, says the intelligence officer Cherniak…“Russia has shown it can function in a completely closed cycle.”

Clearly, negotiations are in the interests of the Ukrainians. A continuation of this war is not in the interests of the Ukrainians. I think the current Ukrainian leadership is ideologically incapable of negotiations however, as are their backers in the EU. So unfortunately, a 1945 style outcome remains the most probable result.

It looks like it. Ukrainian military intelligence chief gave an update to the Kiew parliament and stated unless there are negotiations by the summer at the latest the existence of the state is very much at stake.

    Negotiations the Kremlin puppet says?

Then how come Russians are refusing to negotiate?

Being a vassal state of Russia is even less in the interest of Ukrainians. A rather mind numbingly obvious fact that you gloss over again and again (that and the other painfully obvious fact that Putin has no interest in negotiating).

Your entire thesis boils down to "war is difficult, peace is preferable, you should all give up and abandon any hope of a prosperous and free future".

Well I dont know. Same paper, contradicting itself then.

Of course it is. Everything Russia is lies, propaganda, bollix everything Ukraine is smelling of roses even their farts. Surely thats a bit deluded no?

I mean I understand after spending two years in here the worldview may be a bit warbled but even so…

    Whatabout whataboutery.

I think everyone will cast a critical eye on statements from Ukraine but it's mostly omission due to military operations occurring.

Vs. russia where lots of explosive UAV shot down debris is causing lots of their refineries to burn.

Or where you have some putin lovers literally soapboxing once or twice a week.

Imagine thinking Ukraine after going through all these hardships since 2014 but particularly since 2022 and thinking they'll settle for being a vassle state. Deluded isn't even the word.

Can’t wait to see the Russian spin on the Washington plane crash where some high profile Russian figure skaters were on board the plane that crashed….

No doubt they are frantically looking for a Ukraine angle… , or simply just ‘American Military Incompetence’ killed our stars…
