@buried but we have international obligations to house and feed these people amongst other things and if we don't we'll be sued! Even if we are broke and have no money. Even if we have a humongous national debt. These international laws make a mockery of reality.

I don't care how bad things get in Ireland (no reason to believe any kind of bad economic news in the future anyway) they aren't going back to Somalia.

    Ever.

They are easily ignored too, if only the will was there..

You’re right. There is an expectation that they will be looked after indefinitely (the recent article where a Ukrainian complained about the government ‘losing interest’ is one example) so they aren’t going anywhere. And why would they? They know they’ll be looked after before Irish people just like always

Our national obligations should be a priority.

Trump is calling them illegals, so I assume, no documents or failed claims

This is from Newsweek, link below

Trump made immigration a central theme of his successful presidential campaign and Americans largely support his mass deportation plans.

New York Times/Ipsos poll, carried out from January 2 to 10, found 55 percent of voters strongly or somewhat supported such plans. Eighty-eight percent supported "Deporting immigrants who are here illegally and have criminal records." Large majorities of both Democrats and Republicans agreed that the immigration system is broken.

Trump initiated his much-promised plan to deport unauthorized or undocumented immigrants within the first week of his new administration. The first flights, which used military planes, started taking off on Friday.

On Sunday, Trump announced on Truth Social, his social media platform, that he was "just informed" that two flights bringing deported migrants from the U.S. back to Colombia were not allowed to land.

"This order was given by Colombia's Socialist President Gustavo Petro, who is already very unpopular amongst his people. Petro's denial of these flights has jeopardized the National Security and Public Safety of the United States," wrote Trump, who said that there was "a large number of Illegal Criminals" aboard the flights.

Trump really has hit the ground running on this, now he is in office again

MAGA Reacts to Migrants Returning to Colombia After Trump Ordered Tariffs - Newsweek

Big Jim would want to get back from the break and hit the ground running here with at least a plan as the whole system is needing overhaul, e.g. increase safe countries list and make anyone from a safe country, a returnee, reject

Does Ireland really not track crime stats the way Denmark does? Very telling graphic here. One thing I noticed is Indians are very low on the list and they're one of our top arrivals mainly through legal means to work or study. Good news surely? Generally a pro democratic People, who don't support religious caliphates. Ie . Easier to integrate.

I would love to see a similar graphic for Ireland. Considering we're not as far down the asylum/refugee path as them we really should start recording this data if we don't already.

The political classes are afraid to release the true stats. Similar to how Fingal Coco wouldn't release the breakdown of nationality in social housing. The figures would prove that immigration is effecting already thin on the ground public resources.

Crazy even the Aontu councillor voted against it. Dangerous times we live in when they control the narrative like this.

German politicans talking about ramping up deportations. I honestly don't have any faith in Irish politicans to actually deport people, they're all too bleeding heart, swayed by a petition signed by a few hundred people and worried about the people they think matter talking badly about them on social media.

The governments propaganda mouth piece speaks lol

Six men found in container refused permission to enter country

Six men who were among a group of people discovered in a container at Rosslare Europort have been refused permission to enter the country.

It is understood that the men and teenagers were found in the container at the port yesterday, where they were for four days, having arrived on a ship from Dunkirk in France.

It is believed the nine people were aged between 16 and 23 and are all originally from east Africa.

It is understood they may have thought that they were waiting to be transported onwards while in Rosslare before raising the alarm.

Gardaí began investigating a suspected case of people smuggling following the discovery and have said that six men were "refused leave to land in accordance with immigration legislation".

One man has claimed international protection and two others, believed to be minors, are being cared for by Tusla

It's nice to read a good news story like this for once, we seldom see it in Ireland.

I like the way the 1 individual claims IP/Asylum when already coming from a safe country (France and god knows how many other countries before) and from the reports they were hoping to get to the UK

It really makes a mockery out of IP/AS process when there's legitimate people who require help and this one individual gets caught and instead of getting kicked out of the country plays the IP card.

Very inflammatory posting. Suggesting the entire political system of Ireland is involved in conspiracy.

Everyone from the county councilors of Aontu involved.

They have been refused? They are going back to east Africa?

    One claimed international protection?

It seems the NGOs haven't been on this and passed information to the rest of them that all they need do is request asylum.

They should release the figures and then it will quell any ambiguity.

If Germany are getting serious about stopping irregular entry are they going to act to secure the EU's borders or just Germany?

Can you even secure German borders of you don't secure EU ones?

No doubt a good willed Ngo will travel to Rosslare and inform the 6 men of their rights. Given the amount that are physically deported vs issued deportation papers, I wouldn't hold my breath they will leave Ireland anytime soon.

The immigration lawyers felt a disturbance in the force lol

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,751 ✭✭✭ericzeking

There was a piece on Matt Cooper the other week, and they were talking about that talking point where it was claimed that migrants got lesser sentences with reference to that case twenty odd years ago. And the journo used statistics to say that 22% of the prison population was foreign born versus an overall population of 12% or something so she said that it couldn't be true that migrants were getting lesser sentences because they are over represented in prison….I don't think she realised the point she actually made although Matt did sound a bit unsure of himself for the next minute or two 😃

    No it wouldn't.

The conspiracy marches on driven by the algorithms to immigration true believer.

For the term of the last government this forum and threads like this one were filled with the silent majority conspiracy.

Now we have had a free fair democratic election and the winds of change have not blown in fact they were not even so much as a breeze politically and so now that chatter has reverted to conspiracy and this time its the entire system is controlled.

Dangerous times we live in when they control the narrative like this.

It's difficult to navigate the rules of the site and in the op, and without wanting to go ot, but you're right and in time, many of the points raised by 'the far right' will be shown to be true.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,168 ✭✭✭RobbieTheRobber

Do a check on Irish citizens in UK prisons compared to uk citizens in uk prisons as percentage of the total population.

You will discover that Irish people are over represented in Uk prisons' compared to their percentage of the UK total population.

I don't think she realised the point she actually made although Matt did sound a bit unsure of himself for the next minute or two

So what is the point being made?

She was coming at it from the super sympathetic to migrant angle and they definitely don't get preferential treatment and the dastardly far right are spreading #misinformation again but only served to say that they were over represented in prison. Did that really need to be spelled out?

This is a pretty confusing post, I am struggling to see what point you are trying to make.

The CSO publish figures on nationality.

    • 84.5% of our population are Irish citizens.
    • 15.5% of our population are citizens of other countries.

Similarly the prison service publish stats on nationality.

    https://www.irishprisons.ie/wp-content/uploads/documents_pdf/DECEMBER-2024.pdf

As from last month, 5001 people in custody, 847 or 16.9% were Non Irish. Over 63% of these are either British or EU Citizens.

You then need to adjust it for demographics, with the majority of the prison population being younger as are Migrants who come here.

Also non nationals are less likely to get bail.

Bunch of scumbags protesting outside a hotel beside the Bridewell Garda Station last night because it's housing some IPAS people.

As a resident of the North inner city, can someone tell me why these wasters aren't concerned about the actual problems in the city centre? The heroin dealing, the kids on scramblers everywhere, the kids randomly smashing up cars and houses and assaulting people, the list goes on.

I can only put it down to the stupid c**ts taking their anger out on them because they think the foreigners are getting more free sh*t than they are even though they're probably all in social housing on the dole.

I'd gladly take any other nationality rather than some of the scumbags I live near to because it isn't foreigners we worry about around here.

Bunch of people protesting outside a 4* hotel housing ipas residents while 100,000's of our own go without heating water and phone service.

About time we started taking care of our own and not every tom dick and Harry crossing multiple safe countries to our shores.

You think those people protesting give a flying f**k about people with no electricity in rural Ireland?

Jesus. Both hamstrings gone with that stretch.

No go on spell it out what does that over representation in prison imply?

Should have refused to let the 9 of them in.

It will only encourage more to try this when they see that 3 of them aren't being sent back.
