I got the non hall effect one previously. Found it awkward to hold and use and the vibration appears to have been taken from a Rampant Rabbit.

You can buy the cheaper ones as well rather than spending extra on originals. You could also get a used original on the likes of adverts for cheaper than a brand new original but it's up to you. You can connect it up with a USB cable or over bluetooth if your PC has a bluetooth connection.

It's amazing the stuff you can find when you scroll too far on the PS store's deals page.

Just had my best ever run in Balatro, beating Ante 12/8. I knew the scores/targets can get ridiculous, but having to go from the boss of Ante 11 with a target of about 14m to the small blind of Ante 12 with a target of 300m…. Yeah that wasn't going to happen.

And now just beat Lady Ethereal in Nine Sols (man I'm on a roll today!). That's a damn good fight, definitely my favourite boss fight so far.

I do admit, I finally beat the second phase last night after about an hour of trying, not knowing there was a third, and the first try at the third phase I said f*ck this and gave up for the night. But I have to say the third phase, as hectic as it is, is actually very fair and rhythmic. Second phase was actually the hardest just because timings were a little more off.

Yep, my second favourite boss in the game (other than the final one which is just on another level). Lady Ethereal and Jiequan are when the bosses really start cooking IMO - not coincidentally it’s also when you have to start thinking about unbounded counter, which adds that pivotal extra level of spice to proceedings.

I’m a big advocate of giving a fight a break and coming back if it’s proving too much for one night. I was up way too late on Jiequan and obviously too tired to focus properly - tried again the following morning and finished it in two tries.

I think I accidentally cheesed Jiequan.

There was some transmutation item you can collect. I nearly recycled it for Jin but decided to hold on to it. Then I used it just in front of the boss and it made him cough and splutter a good bit during the boss fight so I could get some hits in. Still a tough fight, but that really helped.

But yeah, taking a break always helps refresh for boss fights. Have found that previously with Souls bosses in particular. Spent about 25 tries on Orphan of Kos in Bloodborne DLC before giving up for the night. The next day, did a bit of farming for blood vials and bullets, enough for another 10-15 tries. Ended up beating him second try.

Yeah I did the same with that item for Jiequan, definitely buys you breathing space you wouldn’t have if you didn’t have it.

Started Grunn last night, which bills itself as a 'very normal' gardening game in a pre-game splash screen. Suffice to say, it is not 'very normal'.

A really cool mix of exploration game, detective game, survival horror and some actual gardening. You arrive at a garden and are told to clean it up over the weekend. You start with shears and a checklist of garden jobs to complete, but you'll very quickly notice some things are 'awry'. And then mysterious polaroids will start pointing you towards secrets. And then you'll escape the garden altogether, and find a mysterious musical instrument, and encounter some ghosts. Wait, that door leads where? And then you'll die in an odd way, start the weekend again, but with extra knowledge that'll allow you to fly through stuff that took 20-30 minutes to suss out before. Oh, and there's a time of day system where certain things are accessible at some times but not at others.

Definitely recommended to anyone who likes Outer Wilds. Not saying it's on the same level as that (though I'd argue nothing is on the same level as Outer Wilds) - it's pitched very differently, and is a much smaller game (though the world keeps bloody expanding for the first few hours). But it's great to finally see another game taking some of its ideas and playing around with them. Basically it's a puzzle game where you have to suss out how everything connects, and how to game your way to the important items and locations with a finite supply of funds and time. It's a lot of fun!

During the process of selling all my games I took the Xbox one out of storage to see if a missing disc was in it. Turns out it's in the 360 in my parents.

Wasn't a total disaster, ace combat 6 was in it and I gave that a go. Great game so far and looks gorgeous for a 360 game while managing to run at 60 fps. I remember the game causing a lot of annoyance as a previously PlayStation only game went to xbox360 but I honestly think the game would not work on PS3 as it has gorgeous volumetric clouds and the PS3 was notorious for handling transparencies really badly.

Also see I've a load of BC games on there Ive to play. Hoping I can find my jet set radio future discs and it still works on Xbox One.

I’ve been playing Nine Sols all week, after a slow start it’s really got its hooks in me. It definitely feels like it starts properly around the 4th boss with a hugely challenging but enjoyable fight.

As a Metroidvania it’s excellent and has everything you’d expect, traversal is enjoyable and the locations are diverse - the game feels a bit like it’s split in 2, with exploration the main focus in the first half and combat the second as it feels slightly more linear.

It’s really tough though especially at the beginning, it’s easy to wander into a ridiculously tough mini boss and get destroyed, groups of enemies can feel cheap on occasion with one mistake leading to several attacks without the ability to recover. The parry window is small if you want to keep all of your health and can be frustrating to block several attacks but still be done in with one missed parry because your others weren’t right on the money.

But I keep going back for more, mainly because the boss battles have been spectacular in the latter part of the game - where the comparison to Sekiro really stands out. Would recommend but be prepared for a proper fight!

Me seeing more people playing Nine Sols:

Yeah I was definitely the same. Took a while to find my feet at the start between the balancing of the metroidvania aspects, Sekiro combat, and almost a Cuphead-type flow to some of the boss battles. But as with Sekiro, once it clicks, you're off to the races. Still tough as hell, but nothing more satisfying than getting into that flow and hitting all your parries and dodges. The boss fights have also been getting a lot better as the game progresses too.

Seeing old Mass Effect writers posting about looking for new jobs makes me want to play ME 2 & 3 all over again just for the characters and their side stories. Could mix it up and go renegade but wouldn't feel right. Could try a different romance option than Tali as well but that's just madness.

Literally just finished replaying 1 all the way through to Andromeda. Thoroughly enjoyed them all tbh.

The trilogy is probably the most rewarding game not named Baldurs Gate for companions etc. 2 especially!

Have reached the last boss in Nine Sols. Only tried about 5 times before accepting that last night was not going to be the night (especially since I felt pretty tilted by that point due to some of the sequences before the boss which really annoyed me). But can definitely tell that the final boss is going to be an ordeal.

'The true Nine Sols begins here'

You've got quite the fight ahead of you. Even the first few times even just adjusting to the mix of deliberate and hyper-fast attacks is quite the challenge, as it feels different to almost every other enemy in the game.

But when you get it down… one of the best gaming bosses I've fought in the last decade.

Did it say '20%' or '80%' on the screen as you entered the boss arena?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 36,716 ✭✭✭✭Penn

20%. Sh*t…. have I f*cked myself? I spent most of the night before going back through some areas to clean up any chests and stuff I missed (though still missing a few things here and there)

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Arts Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 31,119 CMod ✭✭✭✭johnny_ultimate

Don't want to give too much away, but 80% is the harder fight.

I had 80% from the off (tied to finishing a couple of sidequests), but I believe it's easy enough to load up a save after the boss and wrap up unfinished business.

Just looked it up. Seems the thing I missed was after giving the final poison to Shennong (which I did do to max out my health), I didn't return to him again after and then help him with some fight, and then didn't give the item you get to Shaunshaun.

Not sure if I'll bother loading an old save and going for the True ending in that case. Feel happy enough to finish the game as is. See how I feel after beating Eigong and maybe checking out a video of what her third phase might be like.

Anyone else get access to the Elden Ring Nightreign network test? Just saw an email came through yesterday.

I'm still a bit puzzled / amused by the whole pitch, but looking forward to giving it a whirl.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 36,716 ✭✭✭✭Penn

And that's Nine Sols done. Final boss only took about 40 minutes. Yup, after the first two hours, only took about 40 minutes after that.

It did allow me to go back to an earlier point in the game, just before endgame, if I wanted to go for the true ending. Happy enough that I finished it and if anything, I hated the bits of game before the final boss more than the boss itself, so I might just leave it. Then again, I could probably barrel through those bits quicker this time. Dunno.

Still though, incredible game. Really satisfying when you're in a flow and a tremendous mix of different styles of game which they managed to blend together seamlessly.
