For anyone that may be interested

Castlemartyr is currently €3,500 entrance fee, plus sub at €1,500

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,107 ✭✭✭Dbu

Douglas and Monkstown both 10k entrance.

Douglas same as last year, but Monkstown seem to have doubled their fee..

Looks like we're going back to the good old days when clubs were changing serious cash to get in.

I wonder what Fota is at present?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 76 ✭✭AlanWatts

Monkstown is a pretty poor course for 10K. I'd rate it on same level as a bandon or mallow, not worth more than a 1k sub even. Mostly average holes, a few awful ones and maybe 4 decent. Douglas is a better course and more central but for them to be on same entrance money as Fota shows again that Cork is not spoiled for choice.

Is Fota 10k entrance fee as well at the moment?

Probably something like that id imagine. The level of entrance fees is pretty crazy in my opinion for all above mentioned clubs. Unless it's on your doorstep I suppose.

I've been a member previously in Blarney, still blows my mind to think people paid 15k entrance fee there when it first opened.

Macroom have a deal of €800 for rest of 2024 and 2025, very good value in fairness

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26 leesidegolfer

Fota is €15,000 entrance fee plus sub of €2,600. Entrance fee can be split over 2 years. Sub includes all competition entry fees

Anyone with updates on membership options in any clubs? Emailed a few but didn't hear anything back. A lot of websites still showing 2024 rates

I mailed and rang Cobh a few times last summer about joining and they were useless. Wouldn't respond so just ended up joining Fota Academy.

    They're

putting up the membership by nearly 20% for 2025. Might have done the same for the main course. Will also have to join somewhere properly this year as not paying 2025 fees.

I took the lack of response to emails as a sign most have good membership numbers and aren't exactly chasing for new members

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41 Williewell

Haha I think you're right. Hopefully the clubs don't price out their members by pushing up subs everywhere.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,676 ✭✭✭big_drive

Blarney is up to €1,228 (not including Golf Ireland)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,676 ✭✭✭big_drive

Heard Muskerry are bringing in a €3,000 entrance fee. If correct that's a high figure for what you're getting, highly overvalued in my book.

Clonakilty is €680 for the year.

I'm not familiar with the course but lads I know say it's a very good deal for what you are getting. They now have 14 holes, I'm not sure if eventually they have plans to get up to 18 or if there is land available to do that. But it seems a good option for that money if you live within a nice distance of course

Hi everyone, I'm moving to East Limerick in the near future with work for approx a year, so looking to join a club in the area. Very near the Cork border so I'll be within half an hour of Mallow, Mitchelstown, Fermoy and Charleville. Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on which of those is best. Looking mainly at quality of course and how easy it is to get on the timesheet. I don't think any are going to break the bank so I'm not too concerned on that front. I prefer a course where you're not shouting fore every 2 minutes because of fairways 10 yards apart.

I'd rate Fermoy an excellent course, Mallow good too. I haven't played the other two, have heard Mitchelstown is decent. Played Fermoy end of summer and it was in great condition

Mitchelstown suffers v badly in winter, v poor drainage

My stuff on Adverts, mostly Tesla Pre Highland Model 3

Agree with this.Nine holes max all winter, even well into spring depending on weather.

I played a course in Cork on St Patricks Day a few years back, cant remember which one, was grand, played Mitchelstown on the way home, course should not have been open, every green was deplorable and various holes closed

Mallow is a lovely course & have a new chipping area which leads you to think they're investing in the place. Fermoy is quality aswell & if I were you I'd be looking at which of these 2 you prefer.

I can't speak of how busy timesheets are for either of them sorry

Looking outside of Cork and without knowing where you are in East Limerick, you should have Ballyneety, Tipperary (town) and Ballykisteen within a 30 minutes drive. Possibly Cahir Park also.

All good options. I played Tipperary back in July and they were the best greens that I played on all year.

Fermoy was very impressive when I saw it. Really well maintained, all the small details looked after. Nice clubhouse too and good food, nice atmosphere around the place.

Anyone have any knowledge of Cork golf club and what type of waiting lists/joining fees are in place?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,676 ✭✭✭big_drive

Offer at Mallow for new members, rest of this year plus 2026 for €1,100

Includes your Golf Ireland fee plus Bar credit of €50. Membership to the tennis, squash, snooker included too. Very good deal for a course that's well looked after and has decent practice facilities.

Looking to join a club in Cork next year. Anymore up to date info out there? I'll email a few places but obviously people here may know about clubs that are in particular good condition, etc. Clubs will just email rates but won't flag any problems or issues.

Muskerry or Lee valley are both close enough to me but I see each have a €3k joining fee.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,676 ✭✭✭big_drive

Mallow is the only club I've seen actively advertising membership recently. At €1,100 it's probably one of the best options in Cork at the moment.

Muskerry is completely overpriced at €3,000 joining fee. Lee Valley is a better course in my opinion but still feel that's on the higher end of things to be looking for that type of money.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,309 ✭✭✭slingerz

Muskerry & LV are ridiculous with the 3K entrance fee imo#

Benefitting from the fact that the other courses like Douglas, Monkstown, Fota all have big entrance fees as well

As someone returning to the sport after 25 years this thread has my head spinning.

These numbers are just mind boggling to me, I'm looking at joining a 130+ year old members club in the midlands for 395 rising to 750 in 3 yrs time.

Fair play to anyone who can afford it but at my level, even if I had the cash, I think it would be wasted on me.

On another note, are fees like these only promoting the exclusivity of golf and reinforcing the stereotype that golf isn't meant for average earners or blue collar people?

Not an attack BTW but a serious question.
