    Oh my God !!!!!

    That is all.

I just couldn't help myself and popped it on… utterly atrocious, my god. My expectations were low, but this was far worst than i'd even feared. There's just nothing here - absolutely abysmal writing, not a single character to get on board with, as bland a story as could be imagined (or not imagined), and on top of it all to add insult to injury that fcking insult of an Irish accent. Jesus christ.

Rebel Moon is a great reference. It's far far more Rebel Moon than Star Trek.

I read this and had a flashback to Black Books.

Manny: There was a little man in his hair!

Bernard: Well the little man in my head is getting very angry!

The tiny alien worked in Men in Black because it was not a serious movie. You can't be putting stuff like that in a movie and expect people to take it seriously.

Well, for my sins it's downloading now…

I don't anyone including the writers think S31 is a serious movie.

It's full of quips and terrible attempts at humour.

The writers will probably come out in a few months and say "But it's not a serious movie…" even though the way it has been promoted suggests that it is.

So the shapeshifter could take on any form and he chose to basically be and act like the Token Black Guy from Not Another Teen Movie. That is whack!

The whole thing around getting a new emperor for the Terran Empire seems strange. Like who's the emperor while the competition is happening? I would've assumed you become emperor by killing the current emperor.

How lucky is it that placing a ship right beside a bomb that can destroy a quadrant would only result in someone being knocked unconscious.

    Oh and "Chaos. Chaos. Chaos"

Just to make things worse, the Vulcan who is not really a Vulcan has the worst Irish accent since the Emergency Hospitality Hologram from Picard Season 2. Honestly, Tom Cruise would be proud of his Irish accent after watching this.

Actually, the nightclub and Georgiou speaking French is straight out of another Picard episode - my least favourite one.

So far it's basically Mission Impossible in space. All that was missing from the briefing message was the phrase "This message will self-destruct in 5 seconds".

I will be looking forward to Cinema Sins "Everything Wrong with Section 31". It could end up being longer than the actual movie is.

It was so bad that I genuinely cancelled my renewal. I know they could give a sh*t about my 70 quid or whatever but honestly? I barely used it and everything that I had an interest in was finishing and being replaced by dross like this. I mainly got it for Trek and one or two other series that recently finished and if this is going to be the quality going forward, then I'll save myself a few quid. I'll review again in another couple of years maybe.

I actually thought that hologram accent in Picard was funny. Initially I was horrified but when you saw all the other holograms and their OTT mannerisms, I took it that these were supposed to be intentionally bad. I may have been wrong but that's how I took it. As opposed to THIS throwback to the 70's. Well, throwback to THAT episode of TNG….. OR the Bareshaven episodes of Voyager….. Actually, O'Brien aside, Trek does seem to have an issue with the Irish. Wasn't there an episode of TOS with some old friend of Kirk popping up full of "Bejaysus and Begorrah?" "Ah Jimmy me boyo"

I wonder does the Juggernaut sound as offensive to Australians. Did seem to be like they were going for the 70s dumb Ozzie stereotype.

I was getting Jason Statham style cockney off of him. Like his character in The Italian Job. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If we can't agree on an accent, it's a pretty poor rendition.

@TheIrishGrover Sorry I dont know how to quote spoilers.

Good point about the holograms. Between one actor having to do several different accents and the holograms were all roughly based off Rios, it's understandable he would use stereotypical accents over genuine ones. Miles O'Brien has a normal sounding accent.

I don't remember that character from TOS, but there was an episode of VOY that had shameful depictions of the Irish accent and culture. According to wiki, it's considered one of the 5 worst episodes of VOY:

I heard a few people mention his accent but I thought he was doing a British accent which is where he is from.

It's strange that I actually kind of enjoyed watching this mess of a thing. I mean it is awful but for me it just about managed to tip over into being so bad, and so disconnected from Star Trek, that I was able to switch off my critical thinker and start to enjoy the absurdity of it all. Something I wasn't able to do for the likes of Discovery, Nemesis, Picard, etc.

The "Irish" accent for instance. Annoyed me at first but then, it's so bad that it's not even really an Irish accent. A microscopic alien controlling a for-no-reason-Vulcan looking golem. There's no reason for that to be an Irish accent, it's just a silly voice. Very silly. Stupid even. But unless I missed some dialogue I don't think he ever claimed to have anything to do with Ireland.

It's just a stupid dumb space movie with a few recognisable sound effects, gadgets, or aliens from a different show that I used to like.

Even divorced from Trek, I still just found it to be a really tough watch. For a thing with so much stuff flashing around, I found it quite boring… the lack of chemistry between any of the characters was the real killer. For a 'motley crew' adventure movie they at very least have to really click together, and I just didn't feel any of that. Add in the atrocious writing and I just found it more annoying than anything.

Like, the baddies take off with the bomb, leaving the team seemingly stranded and unable to follow. So they all have a sit down and have a long talk about how hopeless it is - before the leader guy eventually finally reveals he hid the power source all along and actually they have no issues following. Well, guy, maybe that's not a piece of information you sit on for dramatic effect while a mega-bomb is getting away.

    I thought the same.

Being tight on time, is it a good idea to keep the required component hidden? When did he get it anyway considering he only found out about the ship before they split into 2 groups?

And if anything was showing it wasn't to be taken seriously, bringing in the wife at the end had to have been done for the laugh.

Im definitely not watching Section 31 until Strange New Worlds Season 3 comes out, when ever that is. It can then be 'forced down' perhaps mid season. There is no point in saying i wont watch it. I endured all of Discovery (minus the large chunks of season 4 and 5 that i fast forwarded) -

It just still shocks me, when i compare my feelings for Enterprise Season 2 - with where the Trek Franchise is now. I remember thinking that Trek had never been so bad, and could never be again. Season 2 of Enterprise, while it had its high points, was a full on Lowest Level for me. And while i really hoped they would give Manny Coto a chance, after a steller start to Season 4, i suppose i understood why it was cancelled. And i mourned it, despite its short comings.

Then Disco came along, and burrowed into the crust of the earth, so that i fully understood the meaning of the word 'LOW'.

It got to the stage in Discovery, where i was hoping it would be cancelled, or significantly shortened. That would have at least signified that they realized it had gone wrong. They could have redirected funding to Strange New Worlds, and perhaps this 7of9 series we keep getting teased. But they carried on, and the horror was increased by the torrent of wildly positive reviews.

How this relates to Section 31 is: At least this is a one off TV Movie - From what i have heard, this really was intended to be a series at one point. SO perhaps, they are learning?? Maybe??

I revisited Enterprise last year and Season 2 seems like a masterpiece now compared to what's come since.

High points of S2 ENT - IMHO -

Future Tense - i just loved this episode - i felt it nodded to doctor who, with the 'dimensionally transcendental' time ship!

The Expanse - obviously the lead in to Season 3 and the Xindi arc - probably my most rewatched episode for that reason

Dead Stop - I found the self repairing sentient space station interesting!

The Communicator - I just felt this nodded to potential prime directive violations, and in a good way!

Cease Fire - Shran is just an epic character

Regeneration - Pure Fan service, i recently watched First Contact with my missus, and she commented on some of the drones that went flying into space (after picard and worf phasered the deflector dish) - 'but what if they survived!??' - although it was unnecessary fan service, i liked it!

There are probably one or two others that people can make arguments for - and it probably seems like a lot, until you remember there are 26 episodes per season - and some of them were AWEFUL

But yes id take Season 2 Enterprise any day of the week, compared to Disco

    I lasted 30 minutes. I couldn't take any more.

15 mins in, christ on a bike. That opening was dark AF if a little OTT but I'm already thinking of quitting.

That opening "credits" with the mission brief was like Medal of Honor : Star Trek 🙄

    .🤢. WTF IS THAT ACCENT????

    He's like Father fuc*ing Dougal

Muck lads, absolute cringe filled muck

    Right.

Finally got to watch it. My ramblings.…

    1. i liked the opening, was dark in a way that suited Space Hitler. BUT, why would an empire that's built on coup and assassination select an emperor that way. Surely you scheme and murder your way to the top.
    2. Tried too hard to be suicide squad.
    3. What's with the Borg music constantly getting used?
    4. I enjoyed the garbage scow. Likes how it looked and operated.
    5. Terran San ship looked like some sort of Ferrari spaceship?
    6. Fight scenes were far, far too long.
    7. I liked the alien designs, was kinda cool.
    8. Space Mech was silly, but he had some good lines.
    9. Once again, universe in peril plot. Boring at this stage.
    10. Expectations were low to begin with, so maybe I enjoyed it more than I thought it would. Still sh1te though.
    11. I'm really happy it was a movie and not a one season show. It was over quick.
    12. Space Hitler is still space Hitler, you dont get a redemption act for genocide. Be like putting Hitler in charge of West German intelligence during the cold war.
    13. Holy fcuk that Irish accent is the worst thing since Tom Cruise in Far & Away.
    14. That cameo at the end was pointless.
    15. Fcuk.

All eyes on Kursk. Slava Ukraini.

Didn't even notice 14 - by that point it was just noise in the background

I don't really get why we are supposed to be really excited by Curtis. It's just a good actor doing acting.

There's no emotional significance there from a Trek point of view.

I didn't last long enough to see a cameo. I got about 70 minutes and then gave up. Anyone care to enlighten me?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,568 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Jamie Lee Curtis appears on a video screen for a second at the end - feels like a scene from what would have been the end of the pilot episode, where we find she'll be the team's handler going forward. The whole final scene in general seemed like a jumping off point for the series, and they just couldn't be arsed reworking it after the whole project got cut down to a TV movie.
