And then to have people defend them/him.
The best analogy for it I think remains to be:

“Trump is a weak man’s idea of a strong man”

Listened to the press briefing this evening. Damn, she was good.

Anyone who is in the country illegally will be deported. When questioned about Donald's promise of deporting criminals. Everyone in the country illegally had broken their immigration laws and therefore a criminal.

Time to get the tents ready in Shannon. Lots of undocumented Irish will be coming home.

Renaming the gulf of mexico is whimsical. Won't be so funny when they rename Greenland 'Whiteland'

Ah yes. Blame your woes on the poorest while the rich plunder the country.

People still fall for it, after all this time....

    "She was good"

She doesn't even know that being in the country without permission is a civil violation not a crime. She then responded to a question about how organisations who rely on federal funds should pay their staff by saying "they should call Russ Vought." He hasn't even been confirmed yet. She's an idiot, just like the rest of her colleagues in that clown show.

Breaking a law is breaking a law. I assume you've no problem with all the asylum seekers arriving with no passport. By your book it's not a serious breach of the lawn. Perhaps we shouldn't deport them after all.

Anyone in the country illegally will be deported?

How? How much will it cost? Who is going to pay for it? What will happen the price of eggs?

Its easy to stand up and make sweeping statements. But one thing that is consistent with Trump is his ability to deliver.

Immigration is clearly a very important issue in the US. Trump should focus on dealing with it. Instead he is already focusing on the media, Greenland, Panama etc.

There will be some made up numbers thrown out to 'prove' he is doing it, then people will call out the BS and point out that it isn’t that much more than Biden.

Trump will get the hump, blame whatever nutjob he gave the job to before firing them and then moving on to womens Darts or how there are too many 3 pointers in basketball nowadays or how cars used to have ashtrays in them and he is going to bring them back.

He doesn’t have even the concept of a plan

the mere idea of 'preemptive pardons' seems so totally off…can some one with the legal expertise explain how exactly they work in detail and what they really mean?

The reason why I didn't post a link is because I thought it'd be common knowledge that people know Trump has threatened the EU with tariffs.

    "

Since his inauguration on Monday, Trump has repeated his threat to impose tariffs on EU goods entering the United States, telling reporters that the EU was "very, very bad to us. So they're going to be in for tariffs. It's the only way ... you're going to get fairness."

    "

Not sure if links appear for me yet but it's from CNBC.

There we go, was that so hard?

As for the threat, it would again, just ruin the average American. Putting tariffs on the largest single market in the world because they have been “very bad” to them. I hope he follows through on it just to see how much pain it would cause. But he won’t, he is all talk and no action.

I remember years ago a story about Fox news were being sued for lying in their news broadcasts. They won the case because they argued that they had a right to lie. That story was a gross over simplification that probably never happened, but in the 30 years since, the idea that truth and honesty in press and public life should be respected has completely disintegrated.

    Trump lies constantly.
The 'mainstream news' allows him to lie constantly, and now 'independent' news are completely captured and accept that lying is completely normal.

At what point is democracy impossible?

The 4th estate is now the 4th arm of the Trump administration through Trump loyalist oligarchs owning almost all mainstream media outlets in the US. And now the so called '5th estate' (new media) are being controlled and filtered through algorithms and censored on platforms also controlled by Trump's inner circle.

He controls or can easily manipulate: the Executive, Congress, Senate, the Judiciary, the vast majority of Radio, Television and National press media, and Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, soon to be Tik Tok…

The federal aid freeze doesn't seem to be going down too well.

Can anybody explain the significance of him declassifying the murders of JFK, RFK and MLK?

I thought he loved conspiracy theories but this could actually silence a lot of the conspiracies

In relation to 1/2/3, 'what Trump is doing' is a bit of a broad ask. All I can say is that I am, on the whole, happy that he was elected rather than Harris (or Biden).

What I most dislike about him is how he uses his position to enrich himself, his family and his friends.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,921 ✭✭✭✭Frank Bullitt

There is no significance to it, he is doing it to distract from the fact he will do nothing for the economy, and that he has more time to play golf.

Speaking of Trump and Ireland his Transportation Secretary was confirmed today- Sean Patrick Duffy ( who, btw, with his wife, has 9 children!)

A federal judge has blocked Trump's federal aid pause for now.

Elon Musk literally gave a Nazi salute, there, the last week, as you've probably no doubt seen.

But there will be those who'll argue that the angle of his arm was only 42 degrees, whereas a Nazi salute needs to be between 45 and 50, so therefore you're just being hysterical.

I watched Louis Theroux's documentary called Forbidden America: Extreme and Online a couple of years ago. In it, he met Nick Fuentes - one of the bigger movers and shakers in the American far right and the one who quipped "Your body, my choice" after the US election. As odious as Fuentes seems, he did say one thing that has some truth to it. He said, "Racism is the new rock 'n' roll". An online counterculture has formed in the last decade or so that uses a lot of racist language, and takes great glee in how much their 'jokes' offend polite society. Some are joking, maybe, and some are not, but the alleged post-ironic edginess of it all blends them all together, and they can flit back and forth over the line depending on the situation and company. They're memeing themselves into Nazism 2.0: Smirking Electric Boogaloo.

I read somewhere that RFK Jr wanted them released and that Trump had promised it to him as a favour.

She was great a breath of fresh air. Way better then the last press secretary. Interesting they will have spaces for new online media outlets. Great pick by President Trump

Everyone who voted for him and is happy for him to be President knew he is a Grade A grifter so they are perfectly happy that he uses his position to enrich himself, his family and his friends.

Never mind the JFK/MLK files. If Trump was really serious about tackling the 'deep state', he could barge into all the secret USAF installations with a gaggle of press and demand to know where the flying saucers are.

But he'll probably just keep on demonising transsexuals instead.

Not sure if this was posted. Let's just say it went very well against a clearly biased CBS interviewer Margaret Brennan and I can see him being the GOP nominee in 4 years.

Highlight was his "I don't really care Margaret" line

She has only stopped him from freezing funds that had already been allocated, the rest appears to be going ahead, even though it does not seem that anyone has any idea how it is supposed to be working.

Yeah, sure they're always "biased" when they don't throw softball questions to your little fascist heroes.
