Always picking on minorities. That schoolyard bully analogy is very appropriate

I doubt that any of the transgender soldiers will be fired from the army. A few might leave due to increased bullying brought on by this attention, but generally there will be so much 'red tape' that has to be dealt with that Trump will have lost interest before any actually leave.

Totally agree that much of this is performative nonsense, unfortunately he has no awareness that the office of the President saying things tends to cause ripples.

I expect that the representatives of the various tech companies based in Ireland have made it quite clear to the Irish government in private meetings that it is to resist any rise in corporation tax as strongly as it can. It's not that Ireland has nothing else to offer, but these companies are all about the bottom line.

There may come a day when EU pressure to standardise corporate tax rates gets to be too much, but until that day comes, the rate will not change.

2nd time this week elected officials have demanded American Citizens be deported for the unforgiveable crime of public empathy.

I wonder at what stage in the next few years will the penny drop and buyers remorse kick in for the American voters who wanted this.

I'm guessing sooner rather than later.

He 100% knows the grief and hassle this type of thing causes. He just doesn't give a damn. Look at his reaction to being asked to have empathy! Trump is not some bungling idiot who doesn't understand what he says and the impact he has. He, for all his shortcomings, is acutely aware of the power he wields and takes pleasure in abusing it.

He seemingly gets a pass on issues like this. It isn't him, some shadowing figure in the background and he repeats what he heard seems to be the narrative. There are a million other things he could be focused on, but he chose to take time out of a crisis, remember that US is doing terrible and everything is a mess according to him, and make sure those Transgender soldiers are kicked out of the army.

    Hi @Nermal

If you dont mind would you answer these questions.

    1. Do you think what Trump is doing is good for the US?
    2. Do you think what Trump is doing is good for world at large?
    3. Do you like what Trump is doing in total?
    4. If not, which things dont you like?

If you dont want to answer thats fine but I am genuinely interested in what you say.

    Thanks

It's very hard to believe Trump would give a flying fig about what our relations with Israel are like (as he doesn't care about them himself), so we can rule that one out. His only interest in us would be whether we are 'good for business'.

Israel's lobby has influence the Irish can only dream of. I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss Trump attempting to undermine Ireland's policy towards Israel and Palestine.

The transgender thing is a MAGA obsession, despite it being rare in real life, and rarer still that it causes some kind of real dispute, i.e. the issue of transgender women in sports largely became a talking point after a few won something. It's easy pickings for Trump to pick on this tiny minority of people and get huge, vastly disproportionate amounts of favour with his base. Didn't he think out loud in a speech one time, something to the effect of, "It's wild - I mention this transgender thing and you all go crazy. So I'm gonna keep doing it!"? Or was that something else?

I doubt Trump cares about transgenderism beyond the fact that it's red meat for MAGA.

In theory yes, but he appears to be calling all the shots re. tariffs, so it's hard to imagine how we are getting on with Israel would concern him for a moment. All of his actions in the last eight days seem to be clearly and directly about the US's interests alone - there's no evidence he is doing favours for Israel or working on their behalf.

It's not theory, it's fact. Look at what they get from the US. It's so entrenched that Biden wasn't able to do anything about Israel's genocide in Gaza. Trump himself may not care but the lobby, which includes Jared by the way, absolutely does and it has regular access to him.

How would he explain this to the US public though : "We are imposing tariffs on Ireland because of their attitude to Israel"? He wasn't elected on a 'Make Israel Great Again' manifesto (quite the opposite in fact).

Lol. "Biden wasn't able to do anything about Gaza".

Wasn't able to, or didn't do?

I doubt it will be something that obvious. I'd expect something like diplomatic pressure. This is of course assuming that he does anything. He has bigger fish to fry and so do Israel's lobbyists. They have considerable political capital but it is limited. I think they'll want to keep the aid flowing and veto any international resolutions much more than shutting down whatever FF and FG are doing.

There are many many words I could use for him that would get me banned from this forum. Purposefully saying a successful *female* boxer as a male was, one such disgusting lie used, an example of him generating hate against someone for kicks.

He is a thoroughly disgusting animal.

The trans debate has shown how truly depraved some people are. It's very illuminating how hateful some people become when they think there won't be consequences.

How about "We are imposing sanctions on Ireland because of their attitude to free speech?" (https://x.com/JDVance/status/1735040748741968370)

I think that the reason the Irish government baulked at properly restricting our freedoms "for our own good", as one Green Party Senator put it. I've mentioned this before on boards.ie but look at the language Vance uses here: https://x.com/JDVance/status/1729123376185459090

The US is not going to impose sanctions on Ireland, don't be ridiculous.

Hey, I can speculate. I mean last week I was like "they're doing what with Greenland?". Who knows what next week will bring with Captain Cuckoo Bananas in charge.

They confuse freedom of speech with freedom to peddle nonsense without being challenged. And with good reason too as they peddle nothing but nonsense

Richard Boyd Barret on Newstalk arguing we shouldn’t be so reliant on US companies here and should starting building more of our own businesses like clothing if the likes of all the US multinationals left

That sounds like pie-in-the-sky stuff. How is that going to work, exactly? I'm all for building resilience to American perfidy but it has to be done sensibly.

”Look it up”, how about you post a link or 2 to back what you are saying up? It wouldn’t be that much trouble for you.

You don’t seem to have much of an argument other than what you “think” might happen, like saying the odds are that he will do XYZ. So far, I have yet to hear of any tariffs on the EU, or indeed Ireland, he has also said nothing about what happens between Ireland and Israel. You seem to think Trump would care about what 2 other counties say and do to each other, when in actual fact he won’t give a single thought to it.

No offence here, but it sounds to me like you really want this stuff to happen. Bizarre.

    For once he is right.

The country is overly dependant on Multinational tax revenue.
