If the left wing is such a gaping hole in the system, and if not fixing that problem is going to be a huge limiting factor on whether Amorim succeeds or not, then can we really be happy that they intend to address this gaping hole with a 20 year old who has 57 senior appearances?

There is no time for settling in here, the player in that position needs to hit the ground running and make a difference immediately. Does this kid really fit that profile?

Because if he is the only LB signing made and he turns out to need the usual 5 years patience for these young kids then Amorim is going to be in a **** load of trouble.

Yeah yeah, always complaining yadda yadda yadda blah blah blah. Admit it, its still an inexperienced kid signed for a really pivotal position.

Not super excited tbh, but I'm hoping Wilcox, Vivell etc have done their homework.

I won't pretend to know much about Dorgu or whether he's good enough. As already said we just have to trust in the higher ups that he's what we need. And in fairness given the fact that we don't have a lot of competition in that position, he can't be much worse than we have...

My concern is that there hasn't been so much as a sniff of any other potential deals. And I wouldn't like to think that we're still in the Woodward mode of not being able to focus on more than one deal at a time.

We badly need another striking option.

Unfortunately can't really ever get excited about new transfers anymore. Far too many flops. In fact, it's most likely we will need to replace this guy after 2 years...

One thing I will say is I'm glad we dug our feet in and didn't buckle and pay what Lecce wanted.

    25m isn't a bad price, you'd be looking at 50m+ a few years ago.

I think Dorgu is being signed for a couple of reasons.

One, is his cost. Yes he is expenive in general terms but far less in transfer fee and wages than Mendes, or even Ait-Nouri would be. In an ideal world we would have gone for one of them imo.

Second, I don;t think they want to spend on short term fixes they will be looking to sell in a couple of years. Could htey have got an older, solid pro, signing this month for the same money or less? Maybe. But maybe we'd have to spend again in the summer or the following season. I think the club have a general plan of where they want to be in 3 years or so - and I think all/majority of the signings will be made to be members of that squad in 3 years.

Maybe Dorgu will take time to settle, maybe he won't hit the ground running and make a big impact this season - but the club (i think) expect him to be a quality player for us down the line as well - as in the Yoro signing, which can also have valid complaints.

And Maybe dorgu won't work out at all - but we have signed all manner of players over the years that haven't worked out - buying the players at their peak for peak prices hasn't worked just as much as buying gambles hasn't.

Its a big signing for Amorim and a lot of money for a rookie, it needs to work because if it doesn't there will be major doubts about whether 5 at the back works and if it's worth persisting with.

Every signing is always a gamble, that is a given.

Not all gambles have the same importance though and this is one signing that Amorim absolutely has to get right. This is a position where he desperately needs to be sure of what he is getting, even if that is just a 7/10 player every week. He needs to minimise the gamble as much as he can.

If Dorgu doesn't immediately settle and Amorims side continues to underperform then he is going to get hammered, because he needed to address the left side and he decided to gamble on an inexperienced kid instead.

If there is another LB brought in on loan in the next week then I immediately have no problem with signing Dorgu (apart from the price). But if there isn't and Dorgu doesn't settle immediately, then I really worry for Amorim.

That's pretty much all angles for your future stance covered in one post 🤣🤣

It's a body in a position that we desperately need. I've no issues with his experience because experienced players havent been a sure thing in the past. I don't think there's much wrong woth price either. 25m plus addons is perfectly acceptable for a first team signing like someone said two years ago we would of paid 50m for him.

Its a different, valid, way of trying to get out of this mess but could possibly also increase the time it takes to get where we want to. Or dorgu could be a massive failure and set us back further.

Ineos seem to have decided on a way to build the squad, not one you agree with. But it is ineos and not just amorim as your comment implies, though amorim will bear the brunt of failure.

You're talking like this is Amorim's decision alone.

It clearly isn't, we've invested a lot in over hauling the scouting and player acquisitions departments.

I'd certainly hope he's been involved in the decision, but I imagine he prioritised a left footed left side player to play LWB and the scouting department, Vivel and Wilcox came up with Dorgu as the best fit for the club as a whole at this time.

Amorim has come in as head coach with a whole new structure behind him. This is a mid to long term project, 3 years like Mitch has said being a reasonable target to have all the pieces in place.

That might not be quick enough or exciting enough for you, but I imagine that is what everyone is aligned with behind the scenes. Some want to think Jim is some hothead who'll just suddenly wake up and sack RA on a whim and maybe he is and maybe he will, but that is certainly not the plan the club are working towards.

Post what you want but I find the repititively negative, I'm not saying I want him to be sacked but he will be sacked if xyz, to be tiresome

    There you go @Liam O

"Some of the stuff he has produced more akin to AFTV at times".

So which is he? A guy that wants to cosy up to United hierarchy to help present sensible details or a journo that wants to produce AFTV sensationalist content that would annoy those people at the club?

Remind me to never get on DM_7s bad side....That's some proper effort to prove a point 😅

Arsenal have two decent attacking left backs they're looking to move on but I doubt they'd be keen on selling either to us.

Personally I've always like both of them and wouldn't mind either Zinchenko or Tierney coming in alongside Dorgu if they were cheap pickups.

I know I know, we have enough sick notes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,782 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

Watch Shaw suddenly be fit again now that we got another LB!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,211 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

Then put me on ignore, I don't much care if people don't want to hear negativity.

United are performing historically badly, its apparently the worst squad they have ever had in history and both results and performance support that. Yet some think the conversation should be nothing but cheerful. Its rather strange.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,211 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

Well we heard plenty about Ten Hags signings, but I guess this is another Ten Hag standard that Amorim won't be held to.

I don't remember saying that he wanted to produce sensible details.

As I said he produced a podcast that can be just a bunch of drunkards on a bus on the way to a game and goes around after the game with a microphone asking for hot takes. On the same podcast he could have an interesting interview with a former player or something. I listened to it for years and enjoyed both elements of it.

It's not something that would annoy the people at the club I never said that either.

My point was that he was not above self preservation which seems to be the case. He won't be overly critical of Jim while he thinks he can get access to him and keeps certain things in confidence until it's beneficial for him to release them.

Are these comments supposed to add something? If you don't like my posts then you know what to do, no need to keep jumping in to remind everybody you don't like them.

    ... Wrong quote

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,782 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

I don't put people on ignore, everyone is free to comment what they want.

You have this weird idea we're all positive, we aren't, just look at my comments before the Fulham game and Dorgu, you just seem to find something new to say "oh he better perform now" its quite amusing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,211 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

The crazy, out of this world, insane idea of saying that this really important positional signing really needs to work out.

Should be arresting just for thinking it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 488 ✭✭kyleman

If it doesn’t work out will he be an Amorim or Ineos signing ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,782 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

As Mitch has pointed out that you happily ignored it's on INEOS too, probably more so as they brought in this so called team of experts to find talents.

They chose Amorim for his tactics.

They will have to find the players for this.

    They sign off on it.

We are stone broke so world beaters aren't easy to come by.

Please feel free to ignore all that and keep saying its all Amorim.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,511 ✭✭✭BenK

I don't think anybody thinks the conversation should be nothing but cheerful. & I don't think anyone minds hearing negative things.

It's just you've made your stance repeatedly, everyone knows your thoughts on Amorim at this stage. People have offered alternative views on it and just get labelled as not wanting to hear anything bad. I don't think that's fair.

Obviously you're entitled to post whatever you want but I think that's where people's frustrations are coming from.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 968 ✭✭✭jayo44

Well I'm not all positive. The signing could be great but it's lashing down rain outside.

We have Leon coming the summer too actually I donno what level he is at I'd doubt very much we will see another left back signing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,782 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

A comment from me to Buckety less than a week ago

The difference is I won't go overly hard on him when the squad isn't his and we've seen this lot time and time again throw away games under him and ETH.

By this time next year if he has his transfers and it's still the same I'll start asking serious questions.

Yet he still thinks we're all super happy dappy positive, goal post movers are the worst to debate.

In fairness to the UWS podcast, he isn’t really responsible for what the people he’s speaking to say. I don’t think he deliberately tries to bait AFTV style responses from people and it’s more of getting real opinions from regular match going fans. I don’t think it’s pushed in the same way as AFTV either. He’s not blasting it on YouTube for views & money. I don’t think your comment needed to be jumped on though, as it was fairly clearly a throwaway comment without much thought. At least you replied though, unlike others who don’t when questioned.

I’m fairly lukewarm on Mitten. A good journalist in terms of having connections but I don’t think he offers a lot more than that. A good man to talk about the past and to tell a story or share stories of others etc and in that sense I find him quite limited, which isn’t necessarily a criticism either. He’s very experienced and definitely knows how to manage his journalism output with maintaining relationships - I don’t think he’s being overly cautious on SJR or INEOS though.

I’ve kind of gone off that TOTD podcast a bit - they can be great for an inside scoop but there’s a bit of arrogance there that bothers me for some reason - I just stick to reading the articles now.
