You do realise that Casemiro was on the bench tonight, as he has been the last 3 matches. So not the same at all.

I never said he wasn't, and that doesn't change my point.

I never said Casemiro was being publicly shunned by the manager the same way Rashford is.

Cas and Rashford were two total different examples and again it's all about examples and perception.

First of all cas was not in the same place at the same time as Rashford despite how in the knows claimed at the time.

One went to New York and surround himself by bodyguards and went to basketball game and night clubs in the middle of a season where he needed to be working to prove himself and improve himself. The other went to Orlando florida with his wife and kids on a family break.

I don't think either we're couped up in the back of an airplane but one has an awful lot to prove and never achieved anything of note but thinks he is some kind of global superstar that doesn't have to work hard to get his career back on track and the other has achieved all there is in the game and doesn't have the legs he once had but has nothing to lose by having a relaxing break with his family.

Agreed, and I'm not even a Utd fan. To be honest, when they showed the replay I thought he was onside.

I sound like a broken record, but I will never understand why the automated offside system hasn't been implemented.

I wouldn't care if a player climbed Everest on a week off as long as he hits the ground running first day back.

Goes to show how bad it must be if he isn't getting ahead of Hojlund and Zirkzee.

Also I'm delighted he's calling poor attitudes out.

For me it didn't really matter where they were, even if I do think the public display is worse than quietly spending time with family.

The important thing is that they had a new manager starting, they could have chosen to make a good first impression by being there day one to meet him and impress on him that they are keen to take the fresh new start on offer.

But they didn't do that, they went abroad instead, that right there told me everything about their attitude to the situation the playing squad is in. They could have made a good first impression on the new manager but they didn't care enough to do so.

And here we are. Rashford is publicly shunned, Casemiro is quietly on the sidelines.

He hasn't been great but you're going too far imo. His chance conversion rate is pretty good and his finishing is of a fairly high quality on the eye test too. The biggest issue is he's not getting enough chances. That's partly down to him but also partly down to the current state of Amorim's system.

Both players went to a basketball game.

I’m not seeing anything on Rashford having bodyguards or being in a night club. Can you provide a source for that? I did see a clip of an NYPD officer ensuring he got into his transport after the game, which makes sense as there were people waiting there for him.

I don't think Rashford's personality will have meshed with Amorim's too well. It seems like he wants a lot of outward emotion which has never been Rashford's jam even when it was all going well. The lack of effort and extra curriculars they may have talked about and he wasn't happy with the response.

Which is fair and his right. We'll see how it plays out in the coming days but if it gets to the end of the window and he's still at the club I'd be disappointed in all involved if something wasn't worked out. I do find it hard to believe it was only Rashford who was not showing the maximum effort and no other players and Amorim added "in life" to the answer he gave so it's probably a personal thing rather than just training.

I think the Rashford treatment by RA is being way over complicated.

You have a new manager starting, with a known preferred system. A team hugely underperforming. A known, high profile, problem player

RA simply targeted a guy and made an example of them. Publicly. “I’m the gaffer”, as if were. It’s General Management 101.

I do think MR is being held to higher standards though. You can't tell me he's the only guy not putting in maximum effort every day.

Amorim spoke about the players collapsing after Liverpool and wanting to see that after every game. It's probably only Amad putting in that level of hard running on a consistent basis. You see the new signings and young lads come in and work hard but then generally regress to the mean.

Playing for United is like working in the Public Sector, the new recruit or promotion comes in with lots of vigour and ready to take things on and then quickly realise that's not how things are done around here and soon slow down and take things nice and handy.

Now RA is trying to change that culture and maybe MR is a leader in that culture, so he's being singled out, which is probably necessary if that's the truth of it, but I don't think he's being treated the same as everyone else.

Based on the fact that he can't even make a match day squad we can safely assume he's the only one not ever putting in maximum effort. We know this based on all RA has said and his actions. Anything else is deflection and excuse making for Rashford

Really can't see why they gave this as off side

MR and AG were both dropped from the squad for lack of effort in training. AG was back in the squad the next game, MR wasn't. MR has had discipline issues with previous managers and had his work ethic questioned. The bulk of MR's problems are completely of his own making. He's not being treated the same as everyone else because he is not conducting himself the same as everyone else.

It's reached the point where I don't understand how anyone can defend Marcus Rashford. We've seen Hojlund and Zirkzee struggle at different points over the last 10 games to the point fans booed JZ and posters on here are calling Hojlund a dud and one of our worst ever transfers. And yet we have Marcus Rashford, who has publicly been called out multiple times by multiple managers, who's fans will tell you he can be one of the best players in Europe and should be playing week in week out no matter what, can't make a match day squad.

Does that tell you everything you need to know about Marcus Rashford? One person is responsible for his treatment and that's Marcus Rashford.

Lads it looked offside to me on the first replay, to me it's not even that close. Not sure why the hullabaloo. I thought offside straight away

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,941 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

the automated offside system has less tollerance than the current version does. When people complain about a close offside being called as is… its gonna be worse next season.

It surprises me that he would say something like that with a week to go in a transfer window that you want to get him out in!

"This guy doesn't work, I'd rather name my 63yo GK coach in the team, someone please take him".

I get people will say he should need to lie… and I get that… but I also think at times you need to think what is the best mssage to put out for the good of the club.

Will be interesting to see what happens over th remainder of the season if Rashford doesn't get his move.

Isn't it better though to have the technology software doing it instead of someone trying to draw lines, which may have a degree of subjectivity (no matter how small)? At least then the discussion could focus only on whether the offside rules are fit for purpose for the current game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 819 ✭✭✭ngunners

Seems simple enough. Rashford doesn't train hard enough AND he went out before a match AND (I think this is probably the most important one although I'm only speculating) he lied about it to Amorim's face.

Are other players sometimes lazy in training? I would be fairly sure they are. But have they managed to ostracise themselves?

I don't buy into the idea that it's because Rashford doesn't show enough emotion though. If he had been honest about his behaviour, was focused on and off the field and performed well in training he would be in the squad. If he performed the way Amorim expects him to in games he probably wouldn't even have to worry about giving 100% in training.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,941 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

It'll still be technology and people will still wonder if it is 100% accurate.

The current system providing an ability for a player to be marginally offside, and still counted as onside is better than this being offside, imo:

I would look at in even more simple terms. It's either:

    Amorim has unfairly treated Rashford since he arrived, or;

Rashford has given Amorim valid reason(s) for dropping him for match day squads.

I can't see how or why Amorim would be unfair.

Out of interest….where did that pic come from? The lines aren't parallel and the viewing angle isn't relevent. It would be gas if that was from the league LOL

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 20,309 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

did you see the players asked for the day off today? cheeky fuckers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,511 ✭✭✭BenK

Is that not just showing the view straight down the line so it is the best angle to visualise the offside?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,782 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

Any links? Tbf they have played a lot recently.

This does my head in with Hojlund, he's constantly at it, always looking to barge into players instead of keeping his eye on the ball.
