That Amazon deal is brilliant. That should be the focus rather than porting a new SIM.

Are you not going to get caught for import charges with that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 123 ✭✭Rightplace2016

No that price on includes import fees added on

Hi sorry only getting a chance to reply now.

The phone was €410 but there was €150 off over Christmas if you switched from another network so it was down to €260, it went up last week to €300. The €20 Elverys voucher on Three+ was a one off and the €10 is for when you register a new Three sim on Three+.

The Amazon deal posted above is the better deal now, I think if you pay in £ not € it may work out slightly cheaper. Also what you see at checkout on amazon is the final price, no surprises.

This deal is great timing for pixel 4a refugees.

Much noticeable difference between the 6a and 8a for those who made the upgrade?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 1,852 ✭✭✭romperstomper

I noticed a considerable gain from pixel 5 to 8a. Won't be too far away from 6a to 8a jump

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 1,852 ✭✭✭romperstomper

Caveat. Everything is a trade off and the better screen on the 8a consumes more battery

For anyone interest I'll give you a laugh on this.

Contacted Google support on this and I think it's a bug with Pixels. No issues with other android phones I have tried.

Guy on support trying to convince me it will only work on the 2017 Ford Kuga (we have a 2018). Same with all other car models. Couldn't get his head around the compatibility date is 2017 - i.e. onwards

Have had a Pixel 6a and Pixel 8 and zero issues answering phonecalls on android auto.

Is anyone struggling with the slow charging?

I was about to bite when I read about the 18w charging and a full charge can take over 2hrs!! 2hrs seems crazy to me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,528 ✭✭✭Doge

I got used to it coming from a Poco X3 Pro. it's definitely a con compared to other phones but the awesome camera and unbeatable stock android experience makes me overlook it. The camera is the best you'll get in this price range I think. It feels as responsive as using an iPhone as it's such a well optimized version of android.

I could be wrong but the slow charging should prolong battery life over the next few years, especially if adaptive charging is enabled at night time.

I wouldn't be an expert on battery tech but these ultra fast charging phones can't be good for prolonging battery life i would assume.

Btw, I had something like this before, using android auto wired so everything seemed correct, turned out BT wasn't enabled. Enabling it sorted out the issue….

Coming from a pixel 5 which can charge to 80% in 10 minutes I do find the pixel 8a charging annoying and that goes double for the higher refresh screen requires more battery.

However 249 is out of this world for the rest of the features especially the camera

Yes. It's very slow. I did not think I would notice it as I usually just connect and forget, but it is still noticeably slow.

But what is truly bad is the optical fingerprint sensor. If you put a screen protector on it barely ever works. It's just the Pixel 8a though, optical fingerprint sensors are bad not great general. Ultrasonic is considered to be better; and it does not require lighting up the screen.

I can't on with those optical sensors at all. We've a few pixels in the house 6a/7a and the sensor is almost identified useless. The 8a has face unlock though?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,580 ✭✭✭CyberGhost

It is useless. They should have kept the sensor on the back, or added one into the power button. The only reason unlocking the 8a is tolerable is because it has face unlock.

I find the fingerprint sensor to be good but I've never used any sort of screen cover.

When I put a screen protector on mine the phone actually detected it and asked if I wanted to enable screen protector mode. Might be worth a shot for anyone who hasn't seen the same prompt. You can search for it in the settings.

On the 6a there was an update about 3 months ago that did improve it. The others in the house don't seem to have much trouble with it as me.

Thanks to the poster who told us about the Amazon deal, mine has dispatched so hopefully here next few days. £224 is a great price for it

I cancelled my 8a order and bought a "like new" Pixel 7 Pro for £270 instead mostly for the telephoto optical zoom camera and because Google said they'd be supporting it up to Android 18🤔

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,580 ✭✭✭CyberGhost

Cheers, I have that on but it still does not help. The screen protector I have is pretty thick though, so maybe it works better with cheaper, thinner ones.
