As I listen to Jennie Ridyard on 8Radio.com, it occurred to me that she is primarily a writer who has been presenting on Irish radio in recent years. She also turns up on Christmas FM. Another example is Jennie's husband John Connolly, who presents ABC to XTC on RTE Gold.

Can you think of other examples of writers turned radio presenters on Irish radio?

Wonder if any of them had pieces recited on the lines of Sunday Miscellany, when it used to be a quality program some years ago?

No one comes to mind personally

Whatever has happened to the quality of the programme, it is getting record audiences. A "staggering" 261,000 in 2019, an even more staggering 315,000 in 2024.

    CONSISTENCY IS KEY

Sunday Miscellany is celebrating its 50th year. It is considered something of a national treasure. It has a staggering 261,000 weekly listeners which series producer, Sarah Binchy, puts down to the show’s honesty and consistent format.

Suzanne Duffy 2FM radio presenter in the 90s, but turned presenter into writer !!

Gareth O'C wrote a few novels in the mid-late 90s while at RTE

I did think of a few examples like that, but I think it might be more of a challenge to come up with people who started as writers first!
