Roof tiles doing their best impression of Phil Collins drum fill on 'In the Air Tonight.'

Been staring at this for last two hours willing it to move but the center doesn't seem to be moving at all.

I'm dying for the wind to turn more westerly because I'm on the north shore of Galway Bay on a hill just up from the shore facing southwest so completely exposed. Very large windows facing that way also which at the moment are flexing like flimsy plastic even though it's triple glazed glass. Roof tiles sound like there's a school for beginner drummers up there. Power gone as well

Can't wait for the bloody thing to move so the wind will shift to the west and at least be hitting me side on then.

    Power gone outside Roscommon town.

Held on well enough in the gusts, knew it was coming as I watched the outages grow in numbers all around me. I hope Eir manages to keep a bar of 3 or 4G going but unlikely.

This time of the night, coming up to the red warning - all I'm doing is mentally going through what's outside at my Mam's and Granny's houses, I spent the whole day storm-proofing the gardens and sheds there as best I could but there's always the chance something will be missed or forgotten, or just not enough for the strength of a storm like this.

Looking at forecast gusts of over 150km/h - the sounds already are the kind of thing that makes you feel small and insignificant in the grand scheme of things.

Not as good as being near the ocean for a storm and hearing the waves, sure… but for this boglander, it'll have to do 😆

Absolutely not. I'm hearing noises I've never heard before and I'm dreading finding out what they were.

Edit - I can't find the post I meant to Quote!

At 4 am mean 74.1 knots, expected a huge gust report soon

Is it wheeling bins or wheelie bins?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 516 ✭✭✭DubLad69

In Kildare here, but what is standing out to me is that the noise of the wind is VERY consistent. It sounds like there is a giant fan pushing the wind in a very controlled way, and the large gusts sound like they are coming from a different direction or different parcel of wind.

crazy wind now in Tullamore. Huge chunk of fascia board gone. I wince every time a gust hits.

Galway (Athenry) is terrifying, my jaw is locked with anxiety hearing the wind! Wow! Solar panels please stay put! Brought the little lad in with us, he's conked out but I'm gripped 😬

No trees in our estate as it's newish but beside a train track with plenty of them so imagine the light of day will reveal damage.

Did Eir network drop for anyone? / Is this the peak for Galway?

Flying bins I think is the technical term tonight

Barely hanging on to a trace of 4G here in Roscommon, usually I wouldn't even have that. I think they might have a back up power at their masts, but it only lasts for a short period ime. Not great in a multi-day power outage tbh

Someone said upthread that Vodafone seem to hold out much better I think?

Wild gust in Nenagh, North Tipperary. There will be serious damage revealed in the morning. The gusts are roaring through the house

Salthill, Galway. This is properly frightening.

In fairness, correctly fitted panels should withstand 140mph gusts. That is of no consolation tonight when every gust brings fear. I hope this blows over soon.

Awake since 2:30 watching the camera feed with our trampoline. Thinking of moving downstairs around 5 for the non-delayed feedback.

Picking up again after a small break South Central Meath.

Not a wink of sleep. Every gust is angrier. Surely it's over soon. At least the worst, North Offaly.

Salthill just seems to be pure Hurricane Conditions right now. Debris flying off roofs, transformers flashing everywhere.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,830 ✭✭✭.Donegal.

Do you think there’s much of a chance for the 5am update to top that or do you think that’s probably the peak?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,284 ✭✭✭Dazler97

Wow 150,000 as of 03:30 probably up to 200,000 now

Looking at flight radar, I see 3 or 4 aircraft bound for Heathrow or the continent cruising at around 40,000ft above Galway. Are they well above the storm for a smooth ride or is their red eye becoming a red alert?

    This too shall pass.
