Hopefully we're not put over a barrel again but nothing would surprise me.

there should be a womens team but lord jaysus they'd want to commit to paying attention to it.

Russo, Battle, Earps, Zelem all walking for zero after their contracts expired was utter negligence.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,339 ✭✭✭cosatron

in all fairness they seem to be going alright without them. The new goalie looks good and was player of the match against city and have only lost to chelsea. Russo was a pity alright.

Sounds like the exact same thing they did with the men's team so good to see them applying equality there at least.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

Nice to see Denis Irwin united with Keano on the latest Overlap

Hope he's worth it, Ait Nouri would be my preference given he knows the league and performs very well in it. More expensive no doubt but less risky, we can't afford too many more mistakes.

I'd say the more expensive part is why it doesn't seem to be getting looked at - though I wonder if we sold Garnacho for 50m+ (seemingly what we are after) would we try for Ait-Nouri with the money raised.

Seems like we are going for Dorgu as the best option for LWB that we can afford as things stand.

If we sold Garnacho though imo we would need to devote a good chunk of the resources from that to buying a replacement for him - and I would be asking Wolves for Cunha rather than Ait-Nouri in that instance.

I also kinda think we might be going for Dorgu cause of how we rate, but also (and part of that) the age and fact he has played multiple positions. Could be a case that we are looking for Dorgu to provide an option and impact now - but could also go for someone like Ait-Nouri in the summer; giving two viable left footed WB options for the left where we currently have zero. Dorgu could also provide an option at RWB in such circumstances too.

garnacho to napoli could well be off - from romano:

Understand Napoli and Borussia Dortmund are discussing package worth €45/50m for Karim Adeyemi. Direct club to club contact made today, as exclusively revealed. Napoli have also approached player’s side to discuss contract terms.

would love cunha but arsenal leading the race there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,941 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

Could be off, could be posturing, could be a final nudge to say accept our next/last offer or we go elsewhere - for a guy that already rejected us (iirc)

I think Arsenal will push for Sesko and fall back to Cunha - so potentially they aren't in for him at the end of it.

Wolves apparently want circa 80m for Cunha to move in January though, they had been negotiating a new contract with a lower release clause for the summer but it seems he's refusing to sign it and pushing for a move now

Apparently Al Nassrs interest in Casemiro has cooled significantly…..

The main hope I held for that move actually getting over the line was the fact Ronaldo recommended buying Cas.

This is a serious blow to the Clubs chances of freeing up money to spend elsewhere 😢…..

I assume it isn't controversial to say that United should be beating Rangers tonight, and that if they don't some criticism has to go to the coaches? Or do they get a complete free pass no matter what happens?

They aren't bystanders like, they are supposed to have influence even on bad players.

I would be shocked if United don't win so this is all a moot point, but better to ask before rather than after.

If Amorim goes with defensive fullbacks I'll be raging, Rangers are pretty bad compared to their usual standards and are getting held by lesser SPL teams, they will be up for it but we should be beating them.

LOL, what a good faith way to start a conversation!

We should be beating Rangers tonight, but I fear they will run more and tackle harder - which is all thats really needed to put us on the back foot.

Also wonder what the lineup will be.

I reckon Garnacho and Antony will be on the bench with talks on their futures - Rashford might be there too, either there or not in the squad at all.

So will it be Zirkzee or Hojlund ahead of Amad and Bruno, cause thats the only forward options to start with.

Maybe Collyer in for Ugarte? Eriksen for Mainoo? Maybe Eriksen and Ugarge rather than dropping both starters.

Dalot and Mazraoui to be 'solid' at FB again but stodge the attack.

    Yoro, Maguire, Martienz?

    Bayindir.

Good faith is when you say these things after a defeat and people just call you a whiner, or complain that you have nothing good to say, or point to something a player did and say it isn't about the coaching.

You aren't allowed to criticise Amorim around here so I say it now before it gets dismissed as reactionary. United should be trouncing Rangers and if they don't then the manager has to take the criticism.

He is there long enough to ask this question, why are teams like Rangers expected to run more? Has he no influence whatsoever on how hard his players work?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,787 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

Plenty of times he has said the players have not done whats asked in training, he hauled off Mainoo and Ugarte for not running enough, unfortunately you cant sub 11 players or replace them all in one transfer window.

He has and will be critcised here but people asking him to be sacked already is lunacy, this is Ten Hags squad not his.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,316 ✭✭✭✭PARlance

Not a complete free pass from myself anyway. Amorim has made some big mistakes, his midfield vs Newcastle, the fact he couldn't seem to get instructions to the WBs to push up in the first half vs Southampton, 2 FBs at WB etc.

But any manager is going to make mistakes, I'm not concerned too much with them at this point in time, I think it's a case of judging him over the remainder of the season (and probably into next) and seeing how he is learning from them.

As long as he keeps backing himself, learning from mistakes, and doesn't throw his beliefs out the window, I'll keep backing him.

Also what can a manager do when players keep making idiotic mistakes? So many of the goals conceded are absolute brain fart errors.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,149 ✭✭✭Rocket_GD

So what score should Manchester United to win tonight for you to be satisfied?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,941 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

I think we have a squad full of physically poor or average players - some run well but are not strong, some are strong but don't have much pace, some are nice and technical but lack either pace or power.

The athletic ability of the side so poor in comparison to so many sides.

It is something that has been called out by every manager, Ole said it day 1. EtH said it day 1. Amorim said it day 1. Given its been an identified issue for years, I don't know that we can blame amorim directly - on top of there not really being much of a training break to do fitness work.

You see Amorim rotating and subbing early, which I think is him trying to keep intensity high as he can from his side.

I think we need to sign players that are high level athletic players to up the physicallity of the side - imo it is not just a fitness issue, it is problem with the profile and attributes of the players imo.

3-0. But more importantly it should be a controlled performance. Bad as they are the players are still miles better than Rangers, so they should be controlling the ball and controlling the game.

If the keeper is making saves tonight then the team is badly organised.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,216 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

Why is it every time we discusses Amorim, somebody responds to say its crazy to call for him to be sacked?

Nobody called for him to be sacked, I never said he should be sacked, the word sacked never appeared anywhere until you said it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,787 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

I never said you nor here, but it has been said on other platforms and that was only a small part of my reply.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,149 ✭✭✭Rocket_GD

So if we won 1-0 with a very controlled performance you’d be critical of the manager?

He’s furious with the players not doing what he’s asking them to do. Never mind damaging a tv, his comments about them not staying in position “I will not see this again” he looked fit to kill.

If the players are ignoring the managers instructions and from that comment it’s clear they are, surely he has to get some slack.

Look at Sporting since he left, **** show, did those players suddenly get bad? No they’re now playing a different way and it’s taking time to adjust.

This season should essentially be a free hit. We’re not getting relegated, learn the system, sign some players to suit it and see where we are at the end of next season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,216 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

No, if it is 1-0 with a completely dominant performance in which they created chances but didn't take them, I would not be critical of the manager.

And I don't care how furious he is, I just want to see improvements somewhere. What you do is more important than how you feel.

Rangers last 3 games in Europe they have Drawn 1-1 with Spurs and Olympiocos, and beaten Nice 4-1.. but if our Keeper has to make saves that isn't good enough. You are making rangers out to be the San Marino of the Europa league, but in reality they are not a bad side and they can play as a team.

its been trending that way now for a couple of years. see the likes of gvardiol, calafiori, timber. having players of this profile also has the added benefit in improving set pieces.

we need to start buying players who are big, strong and fast.

the villa onana would be so good in this team. we dont have a good ball carrying player.
