⚠️ Storm Éowyn - Fri 24.01.25 (**Please read Mod Instruction in OP.**)

Local taxi firm is pulling service during the Red. Going to be a few people who've been told to go in to work and "we'll pay for the taxi" and, well, can't now.

Taxi firm are right, every road out of here has trees along it including the motorway.

Its worth noting the Athenry was in 110 to 120 in same chart and recorded 98 and Valentia was in the 130 to 140 and recorded 105. Most weather stations recorded lower actuals than the models

I think people are getting caught out by the changing times.

It used to say 140kph at 11am and now it's 'only' 120kph' at 11am therefore the the forecast is for lower wind speeds, except that those 140kph winds might now be coming at 10am instead of 11am

The storm seems to be moving a little faster than the models predicted

Met Eireann's hourly forecast updated and basically a 5km increase in gust speeds from the previous run for Rathdrum Wicklow. Nothing crazy, still remain within yellow parameters for the duration (again based solely on Met Eireann's forecast), but still an increase. AROME and HARMONIE are showing us in the 110-120 range at times though so it's possible that Met Eireann are somewhat underplaying it.

Gust speed forecasts as per ME and Accuweather for Cork City have dropped slightly. Was around 115kmh at peak (5am) this morning, dropping now below 110

I wouldn't underestimate the severity of this storm , I'm getting vibes from the public that it's another storm like we had in the past but this is gonna be a very extreme storm not like previous ones , yes we've been here before with red warnings but when models are showing wind gusts of 190km/h instead of a past 140km/h over the years it's gotta be alarming. I'm calling this the storm of the century because last time we had severe winds like this was December 1997 if I'm not mistaken now what does that tell ya and the fact that models where showing these speeds on Monday is awful. Yes we thought they'd dial back and they have a little but it's stull bad enough to cause widespread damage , I'd say over 700 000 to a million will be without power and that's no exaggeration, unfortunately people could lose their life's even if it's gonna peck at 3am to 8am

Its maximum gusts between now and Sunday.

So a sting jet is appearing, any guesses will this continue inland?

Everything with this storm is looking ominous. How much extra kmph would a sting jet add to the wind speeds?
