I read that he left rather than getting the boot.

Cover story is because he's running for Ohio governor but that's two years away. And you'd think if DOGE was a big hit that would boost his chances…

The only way America gets richer with Trump tarriffs and economic policies is by wars of conquest and colonization. Can that achieved without the help of key European allies ?? America does not have much track record in this regard. And their finest military achievements outside their own territory have been generally achieved as part of large military alliances. Can America be great again in isolation on its own???

They're not fixing those issues, they are creating scapegoats out of innocent people who haven't harmed anyone, so they can stoke hate and division, which is the life-blood of populist or fascist regimes.
Anyone who believes the GOP are addressing any actual issues is either deliberately misrepresenting what is happening here, or they are naive enough to actually believe the GOP propaganda.
This is just hate and division. Beating down a group of people because they dared stick their head up. Funny how that is never a problem for dirtbags riding around with all their MAGA gear.

The days of getting richer that way are long gone, honestly. Look at Russia for just one example. He'd become an international pariah. The US is currently the global hegemon because of the status quo. If Trump takes a hammer to that, he ends American hegemony. Probably for good.

He left voluntarily in the same way Matt Gaetz did.

They’re going to end up burning a lot of bridges, losing connections and global influence and I think in ways that are yet to be understood. It’s only beginning.

You’re already seeing it — American culture is no longer really as on-trend and ‘cool’ as it was decades ago — they’re increasingly seen in a very different light. If their government starts attacking other countries and morphing into a seriously malevolent power they’ll rapidly start to feel a cold wind blowing and I really think it’s just going to be the fizzling out of the so called “American Century” — it’ll happen slowly, probably only being recognised after the damage and decay is already done, but it’s already happening.

Being the global bully that nobody likes isn’t how to win friends and influence.

Devolving into an authoritarian state, driven by blind loyalty and a cult of personality around a strongman leader, decisions being made at whim, checks and balances clearly discovered to be dysfunctional, rights not being upheld and where rule of law is beginning to fall apart just means that the US can no longer talk about being a world leader in democracy, freedom and all those things it likes to mention as American values. Those are gone — all a just mantra and a lie.

Well, there's sex offending felon in the White House, so expecting America to restrict lunatics like that feckin ejit to buy guns might be a bit much.

How does it take 'real courage' to say exactly what the establishment thinks?

The people voting for these changes don't really care about all of that. They don't feel like they've felt the benefit of any of it in the first place. Indeed, they blame globalism for many of their economic woes.

    Fuck her.

She's the very definition of a self centred gold digger, and I hope any toll that's taken is huge.

No sympathy for her or the fat orange goldmine she's using.

Mod - warned for uncivil post

Are 'the establishment ' in the room with you right now? Last I saw of them was the inauguration.

Personally, I've no idea how someone could lie with someone so horrible just for money. Just thinking about it makes me want to vomit.

Would you have done it? Have the GOP done it? Have journalists done it?

No, Trump has been given every excuse, every crazy utterance batted away as being a joke or taken out of context. Hell, we even see it with Elon and his Nazi salute. Everything has to be explained away.

What she said isn't controversial, except that Trump doesn't believe in compassion or understanding. And to see just how on point it was you only have to look at his reaction, both during it and then his comments calling her 'nasty' afterwards.

She was courageous in that she knew he would react that way, and no doubt will get plenty of vitriol from Trump supporters.

They were sold and fully bought into a pack of lies, and much like all the places that fell for similar in the past. They’ll be seen as a bunch of morons who enabled some horrible regime. They repeatedly voted for policies that made their lives demonstrably worse and billionaires oligarchs ever richer, and now they’re going to throw a tantrum and blame the world and blame and punish other Americans who called it out and didn’t fall for the cult.

So Trumps return to the WH is starting of in the same way his last administration was, chaos and terrible decisions.

Why would Trump approve him to co-lead, what they are telling everyone, is such a critical job, and then the guy quits even before the administration starts? Did Trump even talk to him about his role? How humiliating for Trump that he went out publicly to state this guy was his guy and Vivek has thrown that back in his face.

Are the GOP, is Trump, really going to allow him to run for Governor when he has treated Trump with such disrespect?

Oh I couldn't care less about her.

But if her mind is gone, the last thing you need when Trump is ranting and raving about nuking Panama is this weirdo jumping up and down on bed screaming "Do it!".

Why is so much of the discussion and media commentary about culture war stuff, MAGA and Tech Bosses and not about his Billionaire backers who stay in the background but have a definite agenda economically that's going to change everything.

But Sanders is unelectable in American terms if he was in Ireland he might be viewed as slightly left of centre. Fairly run of the mill. Even Sanders appearance he dresses scruffy in American terms, in Irish terms he might look a bit better dressed than Danny Healy Rae. He doesn't have that plastic mnicured look that the vast majority of American public figures have. In America he is viewed as a communist by some. And to many American ears socialism is also a bad word.

Sanders is never a real credible alternative to the Republicans for America. He never even made it past the democratic primaries. In reality America is a very Conservative society, the Democrats are just slightly less conservative than the Republicans - Abortion/Guns

You have to come from money and/or be associated with money in American politics to have any chance. Nancy Pelosi is worth 240 million! Hillary Clinton is worth 120 million. How can these people talk to the common man on the street?

Congress can trade in stocks legally for example. Which says it all they can influence their own stock prices and use insider knowledge

    https://archive.is/k2WZf

The reality is Americans are not led by Republicans nor Democrats, but those vested interests, while Americans on all sides view that as norm things will never change.

I for one am glad I am Irish where we have a much better democratic system than either the UK nor the USA. There are no real extremes of right or left.

But I wouldn't go telling the Americans what to do as I wouldn't want them telling us what to do. American politics mirrors American culture, as simple as that.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

I'm not an Economist and wont pretend to be so I can't answer.

IIt won't be all about tarriffs.

Because billionaires control the media and use it to further their own ends. The culture war stuff plays very well in such an individualised country where material wealth is all that matters.

In a screed about what's wrong with America you name 3 democrats. Please try again.

It is nothing to do with trying again. I named three democrats to show how daft the American system is. The Republican's are named ad nausem on this thread as the bogeymen. When in reality both sides in America are geared towards captialism and vested interests. Simple as that. Whether Democrat or Republican. That is why I named three Democrats to show how Sanders is such an outlier for American politics.

If a forum thread based in Ireland is a barometer of the world - the world is in trouble if it is that blinkered and tells people to "try again" if they don't want to view the bigger picture. Is only the one narrow view permitted "Let's laugh at Trump". Republicans = bad guy. Democrats - good guy.

No view on American politics as whole?

The difference with Trump to many of the other politicians on either side of American politics he does not hide his vested interests. Which I find highly ironic. Meanwhile his new mate JD Vance was the darling of the anti-Trump brigade until he jumped ship and revealed himself as political opportunist. I find that very amusing. I suppose you won't tell me to try again on this paragraph?

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.
