There is no correct candidate. Obama was too black and too unqualified (lol) and too socialist and too muslim and too not born in America remember for half the country and under his leadership the whole Tea Party uprising started which eventually lead us to this point in 2025.

Every single person the Dems put forward will be absolutely torn apart by the media, the Republican machine and their enablers to a point that by election day you will view that candidate as the most untrustworthy/corrupt/unqualified person on Earth. Jesus Christ himself could rise up and prove himself and half the country would still vote Republican.

It's not about picking the right candidate. A guy like Trump never makes it to the Dem primary debates even yet has dominated the Republican party for a decade now.

What Dems need to do is fight fire with fire. The Republicans since Nixon was ousted have made it their mission that they will win at all costs using every dirty trick in the book, no matter how dirty. The Democrats need to stop being the goodie goodie guys and girls and going into elections hoping to win.

Apologies for the error, corrected above, sentiment remains the same.

Having all the big shots from big tech on side I find deeply troubling , already investing 500 billion in AI with Larry Ellison and Sam Altman. The Democrats were so badly organised in the summer, standing behind Biden until it was too late , when he was clearly unfit for another 4 years , meanwhile Trump utilised the podcasts of Rogan an Theo Von to spin a tale that appealed to average Americans. Sorry not a positive, future seams bleak to me with AI now in the control of this lot, the regulation that Altman and even Musk warned about a year ago for AI, will now be controlled by them (for more tax free profit).

A positive might be the world will be more peacefull, with less conflict - just a hope.

Is that not AOC? (She'd never win a national vote though)

It was too much for just enough Americans to swing the election it seems.

Has to be a red line somewhere.

I don't trust that image. Regardless, the same people who say they're concerned about Gaza have left it in a much worse place now.

What do you do in a two party system when your party crosses a red line (genocide) ? Abstain or give a f3ck u vote.

Sure half the sinn fein votes are a f3ck u vote against FF/FG

I doubt the people of Gaza could be in a much worse position, at least the killing has stopped, largely due to Trump.

Biden immediately tried to claim the peace deal that he refused to sign for six months

Well you can vote for the limited genocide (it's limited by comparison) or you can vote for the full ethnic cleansing and loss of all land forever to settlers. It's a bit like pissing in your pants; it feels warm at first but the long term effects are far worse. Or did the people who's against the genocide forget who moved the American embassy and where? Or the "peace proposal" from his son in law? Yea… Bad choices perhaps but one clearly sticks out as worse than the other either way and now they will get to see the consequences of their choice as well because every choice has consequences (and sometimes it's simply about picking the least bad one).

At no time did I say the long term lives for the people of Gaza will now be better off.

I said at least the killing has stopped and that is a positive for Trump, begrudgingly. Never thought I'd say that.

I was responding to your view on voters deciding to vote Trump over Harris due to Gaza; I did not challenge your personal opinion on the Gaza situation which I've stated my view on in another thread (summarized as no one cares enough to do something about the genocide).

That wasn't the point you tried to make and failed with initially, yet again.

A Catholic bishop would never be as accepting as she was.

trump is a very nasty person who calls people names all the time, was good to see him caught on the hop again by the bishop and he of course responded by being a nasty piece of sh1t.

You vote for the least sh*t option and campaign for electoral reform. That's what. If you enabled the party of swastika wavers and child molesters, that's on you. It works both ways.

Exactly. He's the ultimate shyster/conman and the democrats have nobody to blame for this but themselves. Even now after the will he won't he go again shambles with Biden they still haven't a clue who they're putting up next time out.

Hard to claim the high ground when you're up to your chin in palestinian bodies.

I'm "up to my chin in Palestinian bodies"? Prove it.

You said "you" in a post quoting me.

I'll believe it when I see proof. Otherwise, I think it's just fake concern.

The US can force an end to the war by withdrawing funding. Are the US and the EU just expected to endlessly fund that conflict? Plenty of Ukrainians left the first chance they got, there isn’t an endless will to keep fighting. The Russian controlled parts were majority ethnic Russian as well.

The Democrats were repeatedly called out by the boarder services for cutting funding and making deportations as difficult as possible. They even called out Kamala on this during the election.

If the US withdraw funding, Ukraine will fight on. They already have funding in place that covers them until 2026. The EU will step up to the plate to increase funding (and potentially via Russia's own frozen funds / the interest generated from them). If Trump went so far as to ban exports of arms to Ukraine, that woud be more detrimental but (a) those that own the arms companies are major donors to the Republican party and (b) this would result in the loss of a lot of American jobs in that industry, Trump is unlikely to be able to do so without a major backlash from his own senators/congressman.

"Majority Ethnic Russian" is Kremlin propoganda and absolute scutter as you know well, having been schooled on it in the Ukraine war thread many times over the past 3 years.

So comrade, which is it? Are you a useful idiot who believes Kremlin propoganda? Or a Russian agent paid to spread it?

I'm sure they feel the same about you.

Americans are extremely welcoming in the main. Outside the major cities, it is also safer than Ireland.

Trump pulled foreign aid yesterday on hold for everyone except Ukraine

He also released statements that Putin is weak and lost million+ men

He can smell the blood in water and those 300+ billion of Russian assets looking mightily sweet to him

Once again watch what he does not what he says (which changes like a yo-yo, just look at his comments flip flopping on tictoc)

He’s a populist and helping Ukraine and bleeding Russia dry is popular not just with voters but the military industrial complex and military whom he doesn’t want to appear weak in front or repeat Bidens Afghanistan fiasco (Bidens popularity never recovered after that)

    I am inclined to agree.

One comment I've heard said, when people are concerned about national security they vote republican, when they are concerned about economy and environment, they vote democrat.

Two major wars going on, and evil Haitians invading Ohio to have hot dogs was a good reason for many to vote Republican. A sentiment I heard on CNN from a few people they talked to was, you dont want a woman running things in the event of war.

Tim Wallz, Really nice sounding guy, but, I dont mean to denigrate his National Guard service, but she really should have picked a Joint Chief, or well known

I don't know why frankly. Most women I know would be terrific in a war. Like her or hate her, Margaret Thatcher did pretty well with Argentina. She drew a line in the sand and then when they crossed the line, she stood up.

If something had happened to Biden, and he invoked the 25th Amendment making Kamala Harris President, and people got a taste of her in power, and then she ran for election the political landscape might have been very different.

The dems now have 4 years to get a candidate ready.

I have heard it suggested many times in Irish media that dole payments should be given in the form of food vouchers not cash so that people can't spend them on booze and fags. The government, prudently, would never implement such a scheme because it knows that a significant percentage of dole payments comes back by way of duty on alcohol and tobacco.

Similarly, the money the US gives to Ukraine, a large percentage, probably 90% is used to buy arms from US providers.

If Trump cancelled a 10 Billion cash injection for Ukraine, US arms companies would be saying "Thanks Don, thats 9 billion less for us!".
