Garnacho should be 100m Euro or nothing. Guaranteed if we were asking for him from Napoli it would be at least that. If we sell him to Chelsea, there should be riots.

INEOS really starting to make every bad decision possible. They better have a wild summer lined up with incomings.

McManaman and Owen went off to Real and proved they were good enough, in fairness.

But Liverpool had plenty Bruno’s and Rashfords over the years. So **** many hours and days wasted in my teens and twenties debating lads who ended up irrelevant to history. When ye start signing the right players it will be very clear.

Napoli just sold a much better player than Garnacho for €75m.

Can flounder at United for a couple more years until he irons out the flaws in his game and probably not reach his potential or sell now for €65m and sign a couple of players to improve the team right now.

€60m plus incentives to Napoli. €100m+ to Chelsea.

1, because they're a league rival. 2 because they're proven idiots in the market.

I don't think he's going anywhere to be honest and if he is, it won't be this window. He's a first choice player for Amorim so we'd need to have a good replacement lined up and we've heard nothing.

Seems a lot of money for an unproven left back.

I always get nervous when we're signing anyone from Serie A. Have we ever signed anyone from Serie A that's been good? It's a very different league.

    Amad, but that's about it.

The more we buy from Serie A the worse we get! A load of our cast offs have the won the league over there after leaving.

    Ronaldo 😉

Yeah Amad, you’d probably be going back to 1999 then to Silvestre.

Alvaro Fernandez with an assist for Benfica to put them 1 nil up against Barca

Why aren't we triggering the buy back clause for 16m??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,887 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

Darmian and Blanc were good squad depth additions tbf and Romero was probably the best back up keeper for most of his time here. Romero had such a fcukin mad career.

Have you been keeping an eye on this league form?

That one definitely made us worse!

And Silvestre I never really rated, although he was decent squad player for a long time, before going to Arsenal which amused me.

I don't watch the Portuguese league as I'm sure most people here don't. But I've seen him in the Champions league a few times now and I've been keeping tabs on him on other footballing forums. He's a regular starter for Benfica and seems to have improved massively. His passing and ability to carry the ball forward is very impressive and there's no doubt if he was in our squad now, he'd walk into our first team in the LWB position which I think he'd excel in

I don't understand why we let him go for peanuts considering our LB situation has been a mess for years now. And why are we potentially going to pay 30-40m for a more inexperienced unproven LB in Dorgu when there's a better player out there in Fernandez for half the price

Anyone with doubts about the 343 or 3421 system should watch B Lev v Ath Mad...though it's gone to 11 v 10 last 10 mins

Couple of things very noticable...back 3 play a really high line prob 15 - 20 yds higher than we do. Secondly the movement of there players is night and day with ours. The biggest difference is the speed of pass...a lot of first time forward passing...our players take 3 or 4 touches before passing and it's killing us

And that from a team with very few household names. You don't need world class players to be able to play a system that requires a good work rate and quick movement of the ball

If players are not willing to adapt RA is right to show them the door

Which player is this? More than likely we will be seeing Garnacho signed by one of the top clubs for 130m. Hope I'm wrong.

He's been very impressive so far against a great Barca attack

True but we waited 3 years for him to come good, most signings wouldn't get that time.

Put yourself in the players boots. Would you be keen to go back to a club that didn't have confidence in you to play, despite not having any viable options in that position.

If I was him, I wouldn't entertain the thought of going back tbh. His career is starting to take off, I doubt he will want to change anything for the next few years.

Garnacho is not very good right now and hasn't developed since coming into the team. He's young and talented but so were Januzaj and many others. Why would anyone sign a player for 100m who is probably at about the same level as Julio Enciso or Minteh at Brighton. They are rotation players for them too.

tbf we didn't play with wing backs and Alvaro was a bit dodgy when it came to actually defending as an LB. It was still a true ETH transfer masterstroke to cash in on him but the only saving grace IS the buy back clause that can fix that disaster.

He'd be better, instant first choice, count as Homegrown I believe, and cost half what Dorgu will, its an absolute no brainer.

maybe a phone call before flying over would have been a good idea, though may be just posturing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,477 ✭✭✭FrankN1

Just because we had some youth players who flopped doesn't mean they all will. Rashford and a lot of the other players have gotten 5-8 years, to "come good". Garnacho isn't even given time to develop. Sets a **** precedent and doesn't reflect the youth value of the club. Give him 2 more years and if he hasn't stepped up, sell him for 30-40m.

Napoil just sold Kvaratskhelia for 75m, he is twice the player Garnacho is, so i doubt they'll pay anywhere close to 100m for him.

Chelsea are crazy, so they might.

Garnacho made his debut 4 seasons ago, this is his 3rd season as a senior player. I know he is young but he has had 120 senior games to show his worth, there is a sample size there to look at.

He has produced moments and he does have talent, but he is also very selfish and doesn't seem to be progressing or changing much at all. He doesn't appear to fit the new managers style and doesn't appear to be evolving to try and solve that problem.

There also appears to be questions about mentality. Forget the dressing room leaks for now, this is also a player who got upset because fans were mean to him. When we desperately need to change the player culture, what I see from Garnacho concerns me quite a bit to be honest. I'm not convinced he has the winners mentality needed.

He is a very sellable asset, there is interest there in him, and his sale would be a huge boost to PSR.

I'd like to keep the best players at United same as anybody would. But from the cold, clear headed, practical point of view if there is a large bid for him then the right choice would be to take it.

Not every young player is the next Januzaj. But damn sure most of them are, and we shouldn't forget that.

I'll have a pint of whatever you're drinking there @FrankN1

£100m for a 20 year old who isn't a regular starter for the team currently 13th in the PL with 3 goals and 1 assist in 21 PL games is fantasy stuff but hey, if Napoli or Chelsea or anyone else can be persuaded to pay anything close to that then kudos to Ineos for their selling skills.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,477 ✭✭✭FrankN1

100 million euro. And yes Napoli would do the same to us. Antony was close to this level.

Also Garnachos stats in the last 3 seasons are very close to Khvicha. Twice the player my arse.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 8,084 ✭✭✭54and56

You're using the disaster that Antony is to justify someone else repeating the same transfer mistake with Garnacho???

No question there are foolish buyers in every market and to be fair Chelsea have a track record of over paying for unproven talent so who knows, maybe they will spunk €100m on Garnacho but I wouldn't hold my breath.

There's no way Napoli will do it, they aren't that sort of club.

If we get 55m + add ons it's a great deal and profit on a player that wasn't going to fit the system. He's not going to be a world beater like some think and another player who's attitude and twitter activity have caused issue previously

That money should immediately go towards bringing in Mbeumo or my personal preference Matheus Cunha (who's more or less been made available). I think Cunha would flourish in this system either as the no9 or one of the 10s
