In your dreams. Thankfully, we draw the line at electing junkie rapists to office.

I honestly don't think he is. I think he's just a rich twat that likes to stir things up with dog whistles and shitposts. I doubt if he had any real political ideology beyond enriching himself and feeding his ego.

You think a rapist who assaults old men sitting at a bar should, or could be President of Ireland?

That right there is why I was so against Donald Trump from 2016, I knew the fcuker would lower the bar for common decency or at modicon of decency politicians had to at least pretend they had.

Now I have to read tripe like this knowing some people agree with you.

you aren’t the person I quoted and that’s only one example.

McGregor is pretty much nationally despised after the public finally realized he's a rapist. So thankfully not but it's definitely showing the types that your backing though.

Wonder how the US police unions feel about Trump pardoning 1600 J6 rioters who attacked their members?

It should be condemned from a height.

But everything is pollicised over there so God knows.

You have the ADL defending literal Nazi Salutes.

Upside down world at the moment and will be for a while yet.

pretty much it. Awful awful divisive Kip. Led by truly awful people. Yes, many great people who just want everyone to prosper, but the key players in power here are awful people.

They can't. It's the nature of the two-party system that they don't have to. Even if they did, they're too large and fragmented. It's always struck me as obscene that a Socialist like Bernie Sanders and a Hawk like Hilary Clinton are in the same party. It's like merging the Greens, the Lib Dems, Labour, the TUSC and the Tories here in the UK.

The GOP is an outfit with much more cohesion which makes party discipline easier to enforce such as with your example in the second paragraph of this post.

How anyone who uses a twitter account can criticise Musk on Twitter is bizarre. They're financially supporting a Nazi and acting if they hate the man.

Ya I could understand people remaining on the platform initially but not really getting it at this stage. I left ages back just cause the quality dropped immensely post takeover.

    #MEGA MAKE EUROPE GREAT AGAIN

As someone alluded to above, let’s not believe all the hype - sure it sounds great and “a new dawn awaits” bla bla bla but it’s the actions in the coming months and how these translate into real change for America that will be telling.
But- I also agree with you in terms of Ireland - we’ve been swayed by international thought and heavily influenced by administrations like Bidens - we need to start thinking for ourselves - right now Ireland feels like a country just drifting in the wind - I think there’s a huge realisation across the population that not all of our decisions in the last number of years were the wisest- while I hate Trump, and I loath the far right, I don’t have respect for the far left either - we need a readjustment ourselves - be it immigration, housing, crime, employment , future investment - we’re a small nation - we need the support of the EU but there’s nothing stopping us having a few original ideas also

    Really?

When it came to the genocide in Gaza Ireland were at the forefront of condemnation.

I wouldn't worry too much about Ireland, we really are the cute whores of the world.

Is there any good things for the world at large for Trump being back in Whitehouse?

Could anyone make a list without mentioning anything to do with Democrats as I have to say I am really depressed about it.

We have the outgoing US president issuing blanket preemptive pardons for his family members as one of his final acts in office and the incoming US president issuing pardons for 1600 January 6th convicts as one of his first acts in office.

And both sides furiously condemning the other for the pardons. Mad stuff.

Makes me thankful that in our new government the height of the controversy is Michael Lowry's past and whether or not the Regional Indos can form a Technical Group.

Especially as Trump was so statesmanlike and dignified at the last inauguration.

You've got a fair point to be sure. But there is something to be said about challenging the discorse on the cespool that Twitter has become. It clearly gets to Musk too, as illustrated by that user who pointed out how he's been faking his gaming record and got his check-mark taken because of it.

If Twitter remains with Musk for the forseeable, it'll likely disintergrate in some years (hard to guess how long, social media sites die loooooong deaths), but in the meantime it's worth injecting the point that the supposed "genius" is little more than an Apartied Diamond-Miner's Baby who got stupidly lucky and knew how to blag about other people's achievements to look like his own, despite being a talentless stoner who can't hold down a meaningful relationship with anyone.

Ah yes common sense that leads to more fossil fuels and less rights for people of fluid gender, all immigrants labelled criminals.

Also Ireland does look after it's own The vast majority of social housing goes to Irish people and not to foreigners which is what contrinually gets spouted online and now thanks to Trump the platforms like Meta and X won't fact check false statements that spread more hate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 259 ✭✭littlefeet

Trump is a showman the vast majority of it is profirmative.

I can never understand why why some are so naive as to believe that fact checking works it doesn't if an individual want to believe that the majority of social housing goes to immigrants no amount of fact will change their mind it's about what they want to believe not facts.

I do think the best way combat it is to just leave. I doubt he cares too much about people calling him out on his own platform. It’s engagement and keeps money coming in.

Go to Bluesky and criticise him there, it’s a smaller audience but at least there’s zero benefit to him or the cesspit that is modern Twitter.

You're delusional if you think the far Left in Ireland has had any sort of serious policy influence in the mast ten years.

Or that Ireland should be some sort of mover or shaker on the international stage in a political sense. Ireland is a small country that has done fantastically well for itself through meaningful and well intentioned integration and collaboration with countries such as the US and UK and others in Europe.

Ireland has had and continues to have very centrist governments and those on the far left in a policy sense have largely been punching bags to target ire at instead of holding the actual governments to account.

The continued use of Shannon by the US military, the favorable tax laws for US companies, the arguing in court to not be entitled to 13B tax from Apple, the handing over of whole housing developments to international hedge funds etc etc, none of these are remotely Left wing in policy.

And I'm not knocking Irish governments, we've been much better served as a nation than the US or UK for several years, even if they still need to do a lot better to provide long term solutions for the teenagers and young adults of today.

Advocating for Ireland to become more independent is to suggest it turn more towards clowns like McGregor and Peter Casey who have no ideals but only BS catchphrases.

Honestly if this is your conclusion after he signed an executive order to exit the WHO, Musk making Nazi salutes etc ... Then this says a lot about you and none of it is positive.
