Why does it have to be a shared chassis? I know it was at the beginning because of the close involvement of Volvo and the fact that the P2 was essentially a test for Volvo to follow with the EX40 I think it was.

But now, Polestar are running their own factories and I'm not sure how much sharing of chassis goes on any more when it's essentially not required. Like do the 3 and 4 share chassis with Volvo models?

Edit: Looked it up. The 3 was the same platform as the EX90 and the 4 is a Zeekr platform. So yeah, the guess could be accurate.

Because it’s far more cost efficient for the parent company Geely. It’d be frankly odd if they weren’t doing this and incurring unnecessary development costs.

I read somewhere before that the numbers will just continue to rise. It's a silly concept but it is what it is. I expect a 2 replacement and also a small SUV at some stage. The 2 sits quite high off the road which is one of the reasons I bought it. I hope that's not lost on the next generation. Maybe the next 2 and small SUV will be the same car. Who knows. Polestar really should be working on a replacing the 2 by the end of 2026. I love my car but beside a BYD Seal it does look a tad dated.

They need to do something to sell as the business is not viable in its current form. Price reductions are a start, they were never worth what they wanted originally, like most EV's, but they came to the party late so as they develop, costs may drop.

I found out what the problem was. The car wasn't assigned to my Polestar id. I contacted Polestar support with the VIN and they updated the details then. Now I can see all the extras available to buy through the app.

I think the reason the car wasn't linked to the id was because I bought the car directly from Spirit rather than Polestar.

I was talking to a dealer in the UK the other day who said used sales on EVs are very strong at the moment. There's been a big surge the last few months with prices being so low. I notice a few people on here have also purchased used Polestars at good money. Maybe in a year or two if this trend continues, new EV prices will stabilise.

Maybe. But polestar need to do something with the design at this stage. It’s kinda boring and the first thing you think of is an old age Volvo. I expected polestar to be exciting but maybe not.

The price drops will certainly help as they are now in the bracket that people can consider compared to VW, Tesla, Hyundai etc

If they continue to price themselves as some sort of luxury premium car at €100k, sales will remain as stagnant as they are now.

I would like to know what is considered 'good money' 2nd hand for a polestar 2. What guidance prices should someone be looking at?

I am interested in picking one up myself - around 3 years old. When I look at Irish prices they seem to be crazy high. I find it hard to judge as there is so little second-hand stock. When I look at autotrader.co.uk there seem to be some good deals. However, there's a wide range of prices so not sure where the balance is…

Cheapest one I see on DD is 29k. The differences will depend on spec. There are two batteries, a 69kWh and a 78kWh (Short range and long range). Then there are single motor and dual motor (AWD) and finally there are different 'packs' - Pilot lite (which includes things like lane assist etc.), Plus (Harmon Kardon sound, pano roof etc.) and Performance (Ohlins shocks, Brembos, 20" wheels etc.).

So that's why you can have widely varying prices.

I would say the panoramic roof should be top of your list. Makes a big difference to the interior.

Ignore the UK due to import costs.

Look at NI to see if a better deal available, otherwise stuck with Donedeal as the pool is shallow as pool was never full.

It wasn't a volume seller, hence the lower second hand units available.

Facelift version out now but the old version hasn't really dropped significantly.

The only thing left is your perceived value. If you think they're over prices, you have to wait for them to drop to an acceptable level or you, the risk here is that someone else's perceived value may be higher than you and snap that car up before it drops to your level.

I bought a 2023 long range single motor with the plus pack for €30k privately about 4 months ago. Think the poor chap paid over €50k for it new back in 2023

Amazing deal, could see these becoming more popular due the Furhers antics.

It might, if Polestar can get their act together under the new CEO. At least Michael Lohscheller recognises the short comings of the brand. Pricing will dictate and theres not enough of them second hand in Ireland to be widely adapted yet.

A new Polestar is priced anywhere from €34,000 to €45,000, depending on what deals Polestar is offering on pre-facelift models. A secondhand one is likely to be priced below €30,000. Unfortunately, they're not holding their value well at the moment.

This is the cheapest P2 for sale at the moment at €29k, next one up is €34k..

I would have said they are holding the post price drop well considering there a small pool of them to pick. similar to the BYD Seal, they are holding up well as they are so new, there's very little for sale second hand. There's no bargains or good buys on them at the moment.

I got mine new from Spirit for €32.5k. It's the pre facelift model with 20 in pro wheels. It's a lot of car for the money. I had been watching a few on DD for a good while before I got a notification of the price drop on that particular one. It was a combination of patience, luck and timing for me

That's terrible value on that one, 4 years old now with the basic wheels and spec. Nephew bought one new in black last year with the dual motors and it goes like a supercar and looks superb (only when clean!)

I hate everyone who got a new one in the last 12 months 🤣. €55k in March 2023 for my SRSM no plus pack. Love the car though 👍

I'd never buy a black car again.

Every swirl, every hairline mark in the clearcoat is amplified! Frustrated the hell out of me. Bought once because of spec, but it broke my heart keeping the soft bmw paint in good order.

Yeah he went from a black 530 so must be a glutton for punishment!

Bantry wasn't it Nigzcurran? I remember that car being online when I started looking into them. Started off a lot higher than what you paid for it!

I paid 48 for mine, 1900km, 6 month old 232 with performance pack and pilot lite. Despite it already having a massive haircut on the lost price it's probably worth half that now if I wanted to offload I'd imagine so I'll be keeping hold for a long time.

Yep that's the one well spotted! Performance pack would have been nice to get, I'm very happy with mine and I'm usually a demon for looking to trade in a car after a few weeks so hopefully I stay happy and keep it a while

totally agree - when you’re spending that much money, (only a few times in your life really), on a family car, you want it to be a bit more special than buying something in 3 clicks from Amazon.

I think the flaw in the Tesla-esque model is on the other end though - as years go by and owners realise that Tesla never want to see your car again after the car park delivery day. At least with the dealership model you have more options for trading in.

You or I mightn’t mind that process, but most people do.

Has anyone done their service yet? Curious as I was told to do with Spirit Volvo, and they claim no knowledge of the pick up and return that is clearly on the Irish Site (tried to tell me it was UK only)

    image.png

Anyone had the car picked up and returned?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,830 ✭✭✭CMOTDibbler

Not yet, but it's due soon. Pick up and delivery is in my sales contract and there it links to this:

You bought 2nd hand too, didn't you? Where did you get the sales contract?

It was emailed to me by Polestar after I'd done the DocuSign. A couple of weeks before I got the car.
