Draft coming from New composite door / laminate flooring

Hi all,

Sorry I hope I have this in the right place.

We got our old wooden door replaced with a composite door. However there seems to be a draft coming from the flooring. I've tried to get the original installer to come out to look but no avail. I got someone else to look at it. Their thoughts were that the draft might be coming from the cavity in the wall and coming through the flooring. They mentioned that upgrading the flooring might help.

If this is the case, would getting the hallway floor tiled be a better option? I'd like to keep it laminated, just not sure what could be done to draft proof it.

Flooring would be done by previous owners, no idea what's under the flooring. There looks to be bit of a hollow closer to the front door

Hi! Yes, it could be an issue with the cavity, hard to tell from here. 😝 You might find that expanding foam will resolve the issue, would the existing flooring be possible to lift and investigate?

Hi there,

So it's the ground floor. Rectangular shaped landing, walls near the door are solid. The laminate flooring does sound a little hollow next to the skirting board near the front door.

Walls would be cavity. The initial installer is adamant that cavity was pumped with acoustic expanding foam before the door was sealed and bedded.

I'm thinking possibly lifting the laminate floor boards, and side skirting board to see what's going on underneath. I was thinking maybe a solid underlay might exclude any draft that's making it's way through the cavity through the foot of the door / or flooring

sounds like a suspended floor ? The draft may have been there all along, but your expectations changed with the installation of the new door.

Sorry, I meant the make up of the external wall, for example, skim finish, plasterboard, block inner leaf, cavity with pumped bonded bead, block outer leaf, external render.

Also, as @listermint suggests, is it a solid or suspended ground floor.

External render would be pebble dashed, front wall with front door actually has red bricks. I was thinking maybe a draft getting in between the joinings. I honestly don't know if inner block leaf / outer block leaf as I moved in 4 years ago. But I got the cavity pumped with bonded bead. No plaster boards or dry lining.

I think the floor is solid. For some reason the wooden laminate floor just sounds a bit hollow near the skirting board / door. I'm in a detached house and next door is a solid ground floor.

Yes that could be the case. The previous door was crap / drafty. I guess I just assumed it was that and nothing else around the door

Ya looks like exploration is the best plan. And a good idea, you want the best out of a new door nothing worse than it getting bypassed.
