Hi There well done that is great you made it through. I am just trying to gauge scores Sit + verbal and what it equates to in order of merit. I hope you don't mind me asking what was your score for the Sit and Verbal overall?

Scored in the 1500s for open and in the 1000s for the interdepartmental. Doubt I'll be called if this competition expires the end of the year.

I’m not involved but the first step is always the tests.

People lie all the time on their forms. It really isn’t a good indication of anything.

The tests show some aptitudes. The forms show different skills. The final stage shows more again.

It’s not perfect but for wide scale recruitment like this, it has to be a certain way. The amount of work evaluating forms isn’t worth what they’d get in return if they had to review everyone who enters

From the forms with over 3700 entries, I guess aptitude tests are just a quick way to whittle that down. Going through 3700 applications would take forever. So I think this way is perfectly fine, if you pass your form will be reviewed. Again 2800+ passed so they can't review all of those at once so doing it in batches of a few hundred or so at a time, based on the scores seems reasonable.

Will everyone who passed have their form reviewed and given a new oom or will it be in batches only?

Passed and OOM 7 in Meath, first time applying. Wonder what the chances of AP positions coming up in Meath or what deparments or offices.

Top 20 for my rural county on open/interd. Probably won't get an appointment but it would be nice to get to interview stage

Hello! Thanks so much for this. Is it possible so that you could get a notification in a few weeks e.g. Batch 2 OOM X, whereas around the same time, someone could get a notification saying Batch 1 OOM Y? Or, is it the case that Batch 2 will only be scored once all those in Batch 1 go through the necessary stages and they must move on and create a second batch i.e. there could be a few months’ wait to even know if/when you’re shortlisted?

Congratulations to all who did well and best of luck for the interviews ahead. It's been an interesting process so far and I appreciate the solidarity and solid information here.

I found I did better in the numerical reasoning and not as well in the situational judgement as I thought. Am curious to see what impact my private sector experience has on the OOM.

What kind of impact do you mean? As of now OOM is on how well you did in the tests. Next round it will be based on that, and how well you wrote (and obv the contents of) your application form. It'll have an impact if you connected your experience well to the capability framework.

I scored in the 1,100’s yet my oom is over 500. People here scored less and have a much higher oom so I think being private sector has some impact otherwise why would my oom not be higher?

Tbh I found the interview tough enough but fair. I've worked in the CS abroad, and in comparison the interviews here are more personable and less scripted, which puts you at ease. They ask a lot of questions in quick succession, so I spent some time whittling down my examples and really tried to relay my experience abroad to be relevant to Ireland. I think with all mid to senior level CS interviews all you can do is prepare your examples, have some of the key phrases from the performance level indicators in the back of your mind and be clear and confident. It's up to the interview panel on the day then!

Best of luck with the next Stage everyone

I think it has to do with what county you choose. Your oom may be Dublin and someone who scored lower than you but has a higher oom may be for a different county.

OOM is exclusively based on your test scores. Being private sector, public sector, or civil service has no impact on your OOM at this stage.

See post #399 who scored 1,106 and "is just under 700 for open stream in Dublin". I scored 1200+ and am a little outside 100 on the OOM. Theres approximately 600 people between that poster and me which is a little over 100 in test scores. We're talking a 2-3 question swing I'd imagine. A huge number of people appear to be bunched in the 1,100's.

Hello! I saw a few people posting and asking if they review the forms of everyone who passes or if they do it in batches. For reference, for the 2022 competition I was OOM 840 Interdepartmental and 1202 Open. The results came out at the end of January 2023. I got my 'Stage 2 Result' at the end of February 2024 - 13 months later. To be honest, I'd completely forgotten about the competition. So they do seem to do them in batches. That was a longer competition, with the leaflet saying it would be open for two years, and it's now going into a third, so if you have similar numbers they might not reach you this time around, but I thought I'd add for context.

I still don’t understand what’s pushing me back down the oom, is it because I chose Dublin? Thanks for replying

Your score in the competition is pushing you down the OOM. If your 500th on the panel, then you got the 500th best score in Dublin. Your score is for Dublin only.

Its pointless looking at people who applied outside of Dublin. Less people. Less jobs. Their OOM doesn't affect you at all.

I'm really struggling to see what you don't understand, its rather straightforward.

Yes, you'd have to do way better in Dublin to get a high order of Merit than say, Leitrim. People from all over the country but down Dublin to have a better chance of getting a job. Some counties have 0 AP jobs per year. I know of about 5-6 people from Cork who all put down Dublin. Blended working has only made Dublin more competitive. Someone who could come in the top 20 in one county might be 1000 in Dublin. As people know if you're third in line in one county you may never get a job, but 50th in line in Dublin may get a job.

There was a useful document flying around a while ago saying how many were hired in the different counties over the last few years.

did you progress any further up the OOM in Feb 2023?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25 Caip79

I asked “is it because I applied to Dublin” which you’ve clarified with thanks, however there’s no need for your smart arse comments regarding how you’re struggling to see why I can’t understand. Really no need for it. Kindness goes a long way …

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 221 ✭✭AngelaG

Realistically, would most AP roles in Dublin offer blended working? Has anyone any insights ? Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,506 ✭✭✭bren2001

I'm glad you got your question answered.

There was no smart arse comment. All the information is quite clear, you applied to Dublin and ranked on Dublin applications. I genuinely had no idea what you didn't understand and I made a statement regarding that. You'll need thicker skin to survive as an AP if you're successful. This entire thread is in good faith.

They didn't get me a new OOM but they did give me a score on my application and invited me to interview a few days later

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,669 ✭✭✭✭billyhead

Cheers. So unless they extend the competition realistically anyone out side these numbers hasn't a hope of being called to the next stage. I suppose it's how long is a piece of string?

Probably. But there are some outliers. And I know of certain POs who don't allow it. Unfortunately you won't know that until your first day of work. There's a survey on boards somewhere with information on the different departments (quite out of date now though).
