Sometimes things dont dispatch or take time to arrive but what's the alternative?

I try others at times but always end up back with Amazon...

If you live in the UK or only use Amazon for certain types of items, i.e. electronics, then Brexit will have minimal impact. Other people also used Amazon for some kinds of items which very much were affected by Brexit.

Similarly, if you have easy access to a parcel locker or work from home, having multiple deliveries isn't as bad. Many people are out of the house on weekdays, though, or can't easily make it to a parcel locker and then schlep it all home on the bus.

If anyone has the power to offer a bit more flexibility, it would certainly be Amazon. Consolidation of shipping would be a great option to have in-house.

As I said, people differ. I'm not in the UK nor do I use a parcel locker. I buy a diverse range of goods from Amazon, yet haven't been impacted. And again, as I said, splitting orders can at times be advantageous for me personally.

Amazon has definitely changed for the worse when it comes to physical media.

There was a time when you could pre-order an album and it would arrive on release day at the latest, sometimes before. Now pre-order customers are punished and the items generally don't arrive until 5 or 6 days after release. However if you wait until release day to order (thereby missing out on the pre-order price guarantee) and have Prime, the item is delivered the following day.

On many occasions, items go out of stock really fast and are only available from third party sellers. Occasionally Amazon will not be able to fulfil an order - which would have been unthinkable a few years ago.

In their favour, they deal with the UK VAT properly and there are no issues with delivery whereas most other UK sellers don't offer IOSS and Irish customers often end up paying VAT twice and admin charges to An Post. Or in some cases, the packages get sent back due to failed electronic customs clearance. So for that reason, I stick with Amazon UK.

Based on what I use amazon for, there's been no change since Brexit thankfully.

Do we know yet when amazon Ireland will launch? That's my biggest worry as to how prime and such will be treated...

Are they incapable of ringing the doorbell when delivering an order? Today’s delivery was left half-way up the (short) drive, they didn’t bother walking the last six steps to the door. Only saw it a couple of hours later.

Strange! I ordered three items yesterday, which wont arrive until Thursday, and one today which is due Sunday. Someone mentioned it being a problem with Holyhead.

An Post won't accept my return as it has a battery in it (smartwatch)

I think my only option is UPS.

I'm just completing the return info and UPS want email and phone details for the recipient.

Anybody here done a return via UPS? What do I put here? Just any random phone number for amazon in Ireland or what? And the email?

Just pout in something random. Be very careful with UPS, they originally quoted me €11.99 for headphones with LI battery, and then tried to up it afterwards to nearly 80!! Make sure you keep copies of quotes etc.

It's super complicated. They're asking me for a harmonized tax code. It says amazon will be liable for €20 in import charges. And they need something called a power of attorney. This seems way to complicated.

    Is this right?

Their import department will know Amazon, so I'd ignore the power of attorney. You need to find the TARIC (Google it) which is the tax code.

Has anyone purchased from Amazon.com for delivery to Ireland? Was there any issues & how long on average did delivery take?

Thanks, and is it usually safe to order from them, from a reliability standpoint, will you definitely always receive your order within the timeframe they give you?

Also, are there any hidden charges to be aware of?

    Thank you

If ordering from amazon.com you'll get caught with customs. They'll estimate the amount, but you never know whether the customs service here will agree with that cost, you might have to pay more.

As for delivery times, it's a long way from the states to here so they can take time. If you can find what you need on the UK or one of the EU sites, you're better off going that way.

I'm always happy to get my Amazon stuff through An Post because I'm rarely in a hurry and I don't mind collecting from the depot.

But, I'm wondering what has happened to the regular postal service as opposed to parcel delivery. My two DVDs arrive three weeks late. Another one is already a week late. And a passport which I knew An Post had since Jan 10th only arrived yesterday, the 16th, and was marked as Express Post.

Are they just delivering regular post once a week?

thought I replied to this last night.

With Amazon.com, I’ve never had a demand for additional customs fees & I have received small VAT refunds a couple of times.

Delivery is 7 days (standard). If you pay for express - not that much more - it’s 2 or 3 days.

Packaging is the issue. They tend to use jiffy bags for international orders rather than cardboard boxes so delicate items like BD box sets arrive with dents & cosmetic damage.

My experience of Amazon.com orders is the same.

The difference between the standard and express delivery is usually just the dispatch time.

Pretty sure .com site take care of all taxes same as the.co.uk site.

Just make sure it's Dispatched & Sold by Amazon.

I'm trying to return an item that isn't fit for purpose, i've got as far as printing a returns label that goes inside the returned parcel, there is no return address to send it to, i tried their customer service robot and got as far as an answer from the seller saying i will get a return address next monday when i choose which replacement item they will send back, thing is, i don't want a replacement, i'd like my money back but there's nowhere on the page to tell them this, i already checked the box requesting a refund on the Amazon returns application so i thought this would be a lot easier than it's turning out to be, has anyone had this before with a return?

Happened to wife recently. The following day they issued a refund and said keep the item.

Wake me up when it's all over.

just been on to customer service, they reckon it should be sorted in a day or two.

Big problems with Amazon France. I ordered a smart band from Amazon France as a gift for someone living in France. The order was mysteriously cancelled. I contacted my card company who said that Amazon was at fault. They deny this but say that it won't happen again.

So I order a replacement & it's instantly cancelled again.

Hi, I ordered an item from a uk supplier to the value of €56 and have received an email from an post confirming €18 custom charge. I have ordered items of similiar value from Amazon UK recently and no mention of a custom charge,

why does there appear to be no customs charge for the amazon order?

Amazon include it in the price at checkout.

Amazon (and some other big sellers) remove the UK VAT (20%) and then put Irish VAT (23%) on goods which goes to Irish revenue. Smaller UK companies aren't geared up for this so if you do order from them, you'll end up paying Irish VAT, plus a handling fee on top of the UK VAT. Obviously people then stop buying from these retailers and / or the sellers stop selling to non-UK customers, which is partially why UK growth is stymied following Brexit.

When you bought from Amazon UK you actually bought from Amazon SARL Luxembourg and they applied Irish vat. That it was purchased from their .co.uk site is not of consequence in terms of tax and duties.

As amazon are so large, they have the money to create an automatic system that gives you a seamless process without seeing what goes on in the background.

But purchasing from a small uk seller that is not set up for export sales is the same as if you were buying something from USA, Japan, China or anywhere else outside of the EU and vat and a handling fee is payable upon delivery

Also check with an post by phone or email that the request is genuine. Don't click on any links in the text as there is always the possibility that it's a scam.

Is this a scam text message from Amazon?
